Highest-Rated Day on Golf Channel in 2012
‘Golf Central’ Garners its Highest Rating in Golf Channel History
ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2012) – Golf Channel’s final round coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Sunday was the most-watched PGA TOUR round in the 17-year history of the network, beating the previously held mark by 25 percent.
Golf Channel’s lead-in coverage on Sunday (1-2:30 p.m. ET) garnered a 2.1 householdand 2,337,000 average viewers, which topped the same coverage in 2011 by 198 percent and eclipsing Day Three of the 2008 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship (2.1/1,871,000), which held the previous viewership record. The coverage peaked at 2.9 just before the conclusion of the telecast.
Golf Channel’s coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am also contributed to making Sunday the highest-rated day on Golf Channel year to date.
The final round coverage was highlighted by the pairing of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Mickelson – who started the day six shots off the lead – shot an impressive 8-under 64 to win by two strokes. Woods, who was in the hunt to begin the round, was playing in the event for the first time in 10 years.
Golf Central – Golf Channel’s signature news program – also scored record ratings for its Sunday pre-game telecast (1.7/1,929,000), making it the most-watched Golf Central telecast in Golf Channel history.
