Fans of 'The Colbert Report' were surprised Wednesday to learn that the show's production had been suspended for the rest of the week for seemingly no reason. However, several unnamed sources close to production are confirming that the suspension is due to Colbert's 91-year old mother's failing health. This does confirm earlier rumors that the suspension was due for personal reasons, and was not a publicity stunt or prank (which has been known to happen on The Colbert Report from time to time). Guests appearances for last week have been rescheduled for March.
Comedy Central has yet to make an official statement on the matter, but if the suspension is indeed due to a family illness, they probably will not release one due to the family's need for privacy at this time.
No return date has been given, but we should know on Monday whether production for next week will resume at any point.
