Each week we get plenty of comments from Ashton Kutcher anti-fans (or Charlie Sheen fans?)  of the "Two and a Half Men sucks now, next season will be its last," "Without Charlie Sheen the show is unwatchable" ilk.

But pans from anti-fans (or "critics") are irrelevant to the show's future, only the ratings matter, and since January, Two and a Half Men has been CBS' second highest rated show (after TBBT). I'm sure it wasn't renewed with the big batch of CBS shows a few weeks ago because Kutcher's giant payday is still being wrangled over, but it will be.

It's certain that CBS will cancel A Gifted Man and Unforgettable, as well as at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami). More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did CBS' shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Oh, phew. What a relief. Just last night I was racking my brains wondering, “What’s going to happen with Two and a Half Men? Is it going to be cancelled?” Thank heavens I can breathe easier now knowing this is not the case. As usual TBTN gives us the news we can use.

ROOKIE PoI now BEAT best script show and best NBC sitcom – the office, than beat best script show and best ABC drama from years – Grays anatomy, and now beat post AI slot and best script show on FOX- Touch!!! 3 best hits on ABC, NBC, FOX beaten from rookie!

WOW! Really next NCIS successor! Upgrade version of NCIS! I hope will get NCIS slot in 2014 but for now must stay where it is one mor season! Hope next weak CBS will give Person Of Interest post-Super Bowl slot so producers and writers from now to creat proper story and season for that – will be in the midle of the show around 12-13 ep and CBS will stay PoI one year where it is their uptrend hit! If ALL episodes are UP 3.0 rating and UP 15mil viewwrs with some ep with more than 4.0 rating and 20mil viewers thats will make PoI unbeaten stronghold even from AI, voice and etc and than from season 3 POI will take NCIS slot and will be lead-in in Tuesday! But in season fiasco for dramas where they are all down and in decline PoI destroy it! Even with 3 sitcoms flops like lead-in!

Why in God’s name are people in the frame of mind that CBS will move Person of Interest off the current Thursday night time slot? Considering that it now BEATS Grey’s Anatomy I think they’d be pretty stupid to move it like that

  • bluejays

Simon – because a comedy would likely do better than POI. It is irreleveant if it beats the competition. It only gives CBS nice boasting rights nothing else. POI is doing well the latter half of the season although not phenomenally as some like to make out (I mean a 3 at nine is hardly ground breaking). The weeks it did really well, and bumped up its average, it had zero competition as Greys was on a long hiatus and fox’s Finder was a massive flop. Unlike NCIS LA and Criminal Minds, shows in same time slot, it had a very easy run for a while.

CBS will likely move it to a ten pm slot next year, but they may decide to move NCIS LA to ten and could put POI in that slot maybe. I think it might do marginally better there than NCIS LA but nothing ground breaking.

But then they should have launched HFO at nine last year and kept The Mentalist at nine too.

Instead last year they launched their supposedly biggest new drama into the most competitive ten pm slot of the week, when ten pm shows were trending way down and year before that moved a hit nine pm show to ten!

Both bad moves for the shows individually maybe but for the net it makes sense. If CBS can get bigger numbers with comedies earlier on why not go for that and keep the majority of your dramas to top the evening off?

    @ Kyle

Unforgettable, only in ist first season, is already doing worse than The Good Wife in its second season last year. Its cancellation is hardly undeserved.
