Each week we get plenty of comments from Ashton Kutcher anti-fans (or Charlie Sheen fans?)  of the "Two and a Half Men sucks now, next season will be its last," "Without Charlie Sheen the show is unwatchable" ilk.

But pans from anti-fans (or "critics") are irrelevant to the show's future, only the ratings matter, and since January, Two and a Half Men has been CBS' second highest rated show (after TBBT). I'm sure it wasn't renewed with the big batch of CBS shows a few weeks ago because Kutcher's giant payday is still being wrangled over, but it will be.

It's certain that CBS will cancel A Gifted Man and Unforgettable, as well as at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami). More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did CBS' shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I havent watched since Charlie was fired so its pretty much already cancelled to me. Not sure when the cast of TBBT are up for raises but they(at least Sheldon)need to be the highest paid in tv.

I’m not a fan of the show (I never found it funny with either lead) but I’m glad it’s a scripted show and not reality TV. Now CBS needs to take the profits from this and invest in other shows (maybe some sci-fi, some action, some horror) – when a show does this well it should allow for other shows to be less profitable and remain on the air- thats called building brand loyalty.
