Two seasons ago I was cheered as Melrose Place brought back the lovely (and my age peer) Heather Locklear in an attempt to save the ratings challenged show. Sadly for fans, we know how that ended.

The return of Sarah Michelle Gellar (just a child compared to Heather and I) in Ringer was certainly hoped to draw some Buffy-like ratings magic. Sadly, that's going to end in the same result. Ringer is likely to be canceled at the end of this season

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did the CW's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

this is how it should be IMO

ringer: renewed,it started strong then after its 2 months break descended…
    nikita: renewed for full season
    TVD: renewed, for full season
TSC: renewed, for a 13 episode season
OTH: brought back, for full season
    GG: final full season
HOD: second season of 13 episodes or cancel
    90210: cancel
SPN: final full season, or cancel

Please save Ringer! It’s a great cast, story line, never boring, entertaining. I would’ve very disappointed to see it go. Please reconsider.

  • Misha Lauenstein

Move Ringer to CBS. Boom: Ringer.

  • SmG

CW – Pilot test screenings have begun, Selection looking strong

The CW has begun test screenings for it’s pilots.

According to some sources who were at The Selection screening the pilot is really strong and they will definitely watch it if it gets picked up however is it extremely similar to the Hunger Games and needs to show more originality/ deviate from the Hunger Games format in future episodes.

Cancel gossip girl!! Is getting ridiculous

  • Devon

Eh, not looking forward to hunger games 2.0… I mean the Selection.

  • Eve

I love ringer and I am very disappointed with CW for even considering to cancel it after only the first season. I understand that the storyline might make it hard to go on but its such an interesting show and in my opinion it has a lot of potential. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Sarah Michelle Gellar is such a great actress. The ratings might be low now, but its still early days for the show. Give it a chance. I really hope the CW reconsiders their decision because it’d be such a shame to lose ringer after only 20-something episodes. Really fantastic show, its very addictive and I will really miss it. Its already hard enough waiting a week for each new episode… =P

While I’m at it I would also like to mention that I’m very glad the Vampire Diaries will be continued and hopeful the same will apply to the Secret Circle as they are both amazing shows and just like Ringer I wait impatiently for new episodes every week!

  • Annie

I hope they don’t cancel Ringer yet so at least we can hope for some closure next season. The show is not that good, with all it’s twists and the fact that every character had it’s personality changed along the season, but still, I’m curious and intrigued

  • Freyja

Of course The Selection is looking strong, they think they can capitalize off the Hunger Games. But when it’s more like the Bachelor than Hunger Games people are going to be disappointed. ;) It will premiere strong then take a dive when people realize it’s not Hunger Games.

I say the 3 they will pick up are

Arrow, The Selection, and the last one will be a toss up between, The Carrie Diaries, Beauty and the Beast and Shelter (JJ Abrahams- No way they pass that up)

Mid season will be The Cult (no way this doesn’t get picked up, after being brought back from the dead)

  • Kate

Predictions for demos/overalls for the shows on this week? Here are mine (final #s for live + SD)

    GG .4/998,000
    HOD .5/1.2-1.3
    Ringer .4/1.15
    TVD 1.1/2.6-2.7
    TSC .6/1.25-1.3
    Nikita .4/1.35-1.4
    SPN .7/1.66

it’s just a fun game so don’t get bent out of shape!

  • Devon

I think 3 new series will premiere in the fall and 2 will left for mid-season replacements.

  • obsessed

    BRING BACK REPEATS CW!

  • Alen

I don’t get why no one watched Ringer. It was a good show. A nice change from all the bed hopping teens.

  • samantha

i love this show…………im very sad to see it go i am an avid watcher every week with my best friend this depresses me

  • WB

HART OF DIXIE is very good! : ) The CW should take in consideration to renew it!

  • Peter Mazz

They should cancel GG And Nikita and maybe renew ringer or Hart of dixie!

  • poshreany

i think ringer has a chance it got alright pilot views with 2.84million which was more then one tree hills, hart of dixie’s pilots, near as much as the secret circle, and gossip girl,nikita,90210,supernatural have all descended in views with hart of dixie and the secret circle, ringer got effected so much from being on the same time as major shows such as the voice, american idol, house, new girl, dancing with the stars, and also being on a extended 2 month break didn’t help as well so its done quiet well considering that… so if i was cw i would cancel hart of dixie which didn’t start good and has descended, 90210 which has dropped heaps in views since season one and gets as bad views as nikita and hart of dixie… gossip girl should also be cancelled under 1million is ridiculous…omgg

  • Hades

    @Kate

You’re probably not going to be that far off with your predictions for this weeks ratings.

    I’ll go with…
    Gossip Girl-0.5
    Hart Of Dixie-0.5
    Ringer-0.5
    90210-0.6
    The Vampire Diaries-1.2
    ANTM-0.6
    The Secret Circle-0.7
    Nikita-0.5
    Supernatural-0.8

  • Sophia

^ There is no new 90210 this week.. I think it’s next week it comes back.

  • Hades

    @poshreany

Yes Ringer’s pilot got a good sampling but since then has steadily dropped viewers. Those viewers are highly unlikley to return to the show.

The number of viewers outside of the key demos are insignificant. That being said it currently has the second lowest number of viewers. More importantly Ringer currently has the lowest demo ratings and therefore does not justify a renewal.

GG, 90210, SPN, Nikita are all older shows than Ringer they may have premiered this current season lower than Ringer’s pilot but they all currently have better ratings and more viewers (not GG) than Ringer. Shows decline over time. Ringer is a new show and already bottom of the pile.

HOD may have premiered lower than Ringer but it is currently doing better than Ringer.

When it comes to TV shows there are no second chances, shows rarely if ever come back for a second season with higher ratings than previously. Ringer is not going to miraculously gain viewers or demo next season.

All shows go on breaks. Ringer may have had a slightly longer break over the holiday period but it has had a straigt run of new episodes since then. Meanwhile all other CW shows have been on and off for weeks at a time since then. Not to mention the fact that Ringer was on a steady decline before it went on break before Christmas. Its last episode of 2011 was at a 0.6 already.

Lastly you keep going on about how all the other shows on the network have descended yet have failed to notice that Ringer may have had the biggest descent of them all-in viewers and demo. If you are using this arguement as a reason to save Ringer then I’m sorry but its just piss poor.

The CW dont have much reason to keep many of its shows it has even less reason to keep Ringer.
