Fringe ratings have bumped along at woeful levels since January. Fans' hopes for a fifth season seem to rise and fall with those tiny up or down ticks, and I don't think they should.
As I've been noting all season long. Fringe's terrible ratings under normal circumstances would certainly cause the show to be canceled. But the potential money fountain that is off network syndication sometimes causes producers to do things that don't fit "normal" like cutting their license fee to the network to nothing. That's what Warner Brothers will have to do to get another season of Fringe, and the chance that they might is what's keeping it a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.

-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2012 -

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@james
Sorry, your vote can’t count since you didn’t vote six times (+3, +2, +1, -1, -2, -3). Going through the votes after that, here is the new total not including my vote which I’ll do next post (everyone, remember to vote six times and take the previous parentheses off show names if you’re not using them in your votes):

Virginia: Jimmy, we captured a serial killer. That’s all they’re gonna show. That’s all anyone cares about. Do you think if they showed the embarrassing things we do every single week anyone would want to watch that?
Just cancel it already. Fox should not renew Fringe under ANY circumstances.

@Nick: Sorry, but Rebecca’s right. The CW game, last time, was received very negatively and I had to terminate it early due to excessive shape-shifting voters bumping up Supernatural. It ain’t happening again, sorry.
@Rebecca,
Now that I think about it you’re right. That’s probably why I wrote “rabid”
And having only a few shows would make the game less fun.
Oh well. I tried.

@ JJ
Well thats too bad for you because all signs are pointing to it being renewed
Fringe with two endings! Series finale or final season with short 13ep that is the question!
“We’ve shot two [endings],” John Noble told TVLine at the opening of the Beverly Hills Paley Center’s “Television: Out of the Box” exhibit, which was created in conjunction with Warner Bros. TV.

Noble says many “big questions” will be answered in the season finale airing May 11 — including the matter of Olivia being fated to die (and whether the animated episode’s “Mr. X” figures into it) and Walter shouldering the burden of responsibility for the warring universes. Viewers also can expect a surprise on the villainy front (David Robert Jones plays “a very big part, but not as big as you think,” Noble teased. “There’s something bigger.”)
But as Joshua Jackson told us Thursday night, “The writers have given themselves a device by which we can tell a fifth-season story without having to leave this season’s story open.”
Although Lance Reddick, who plays Broyles, could not elaborate on the alternate endings, he did affirm, “The way [Season 4] ends could function as a series finale, but there’s one storyline left open that could end up as a cliffhanger for the beginning of the fifth season…. We’ll see what airs depending on what [Fox and WBTV] decide.”
If Fox does pull the trigger on some semblance of a Season 5 – be it a truncated 13-episode order or what have you – viewers will get a clue as to that new storyline much sooner than they may think.
“The door to the fifth season is opened in Episode 19 (airing April 20),” Jackson told us. “If you watch that, you’ll have an understanding of where they want to take the series.” (Possible clue/spoiler alert: Episode 19 takes place in the year 2036 and features a “game-changing battle” between the Fringe team and the Observers.)
But as for where things currently stand with the renewal order…. “I hear warm and fuzzy things — but I’ve been hearing them all the time,” Noble said. “We just picked up [TV Guide Magazine's] fan award for Best Drama and so forth, and the fans have always been very supportive… [and] I know the Fox executives actually like Fringe very much. But they run a business. I think we’ll be back, but we’ll wait and see.”
Dennis made some mistakes so correcting them plus doing mine.

I fixed chris family guy mistake
Look at the lineup Fox is going to have…it’s no wonder (outside of American Idol) it gets beatdown in ratings. If they get rid of Fringe, ‘New Girl’ will be the only show I watch on that network.
Oh and “Touch” might be one of the most pointless shows I’ve seen on TV in a while if not ever.
