Fringe ratings have bumped along at woeful levels since January.  Fans' hopes for a fifth season seem to rise and fall with those tiny up or down ticks, and I don't think they should.

As I've been noting all season long. Fringe's terrible ratings under normal circumstances would certainly cause the show to be canceled. But the potential money fountain that is off network syndication sometimes causes producers to do things that don't fit "normal" like cutting their license fee to the network to nothing. That's what Warner Brothers will have to do to get another season of Fringe, and the chance that they might is what's keeping it a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did FOX's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

from Zap2it: (No Flintstones remake coming any time soon)
“Yabba dabba nope. Seth MacFarlane has decided that he’s too busy with his current projects to be able to reboot “The Flintstones” in time for the 2013 TV season.
Deadline is reporting that MacFarlane has struck a deal to put the remake on indefinite hold citing his pre-existing commitments. MacFarlane is currently EP of “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show.” He also is co-producing a 13-part docu-series “Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey.” If that wasn’t enough, MacFarlane also just wrote, directed and produced the upcoming Mark Wahlberg movie “Ted.”
MacFarlane was planning to co-write “The Flintstones” remake. The publication is reporting that to meet the 2013 air date, production needed to begin last year. But it’s clear someone was a bit too busy to meet this obligation.”
*I’m kind of glad he’s too busy. Some old shows don’t need to be remade, IMO. Let the old Flintstones be the only example of that old fun show. In my opinion.

The original animated series aired from 1960-66.

Ratings mean nothing about actual show quality, especially with Science fiction, we’re already in niche territory there as it is. Not many Scifi shows get huge numbers these days.

Speaking of Fringe with my above statement. It’s not like you’l see Fringe in the mainstream along with other popular family shows, thus the audience levels currently.

Hell, these are Stargate level numbers in its prime(well close enough), and Stargate was a huge success(except SGU).

Kinda silly seeing statements from people here and elsewhere saying because the numbers are low the show must suck. That’s not true.

I saw 10 minutes of the pilot of Touch and didn’t want to keep going. Raising Hope is a show that I have never ever watched, so that’s why I took only 1

I really hope Fringe doesn’t get canceled, it’s a good show. I’m disappointed about Terra Nova being canceled, but not surprised. I’d rather watch a new show on one of basic cable channels, they aren’t as quick to cancel a show as network are. I told my bf it’s a bad idea watching anything, especially sci-fi, on the networks unless it’s on the CW because it will just end up being canceled and we’ll be left disappointed. I think he’ll listen to me the next time and stay away from the network shows since a couple of his shows are already canceled or about to be.

    @chelsea
Sorry, but you have to show all the current shows on the game list, not just two of them. Just vote next time. While we’re down to doing +1, -1, +2 and -2 you have to do all four of those.

Disregard the last two votes and go off Tony’s, whomever votes next.
