Fringe ratings have bumped along at woeful levels since January. Fans' hopes for a fifth season seem to rise and fall with those tiny up or down ticks, and I don't think they should.
As I've been noting all season long. Fringe's terrible ratings under normal circumstances would certainly cause the show to be canceled. But the potential money fountain that is off network syndication sometimes causes producers to do things that don't fit "normal" like cutting their license fee to the network to nothing. That's what Warner Brothers will have to do to get another season of Fringe, and the chance that they might is what's keeping it a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@Bran: Next season, when I reboot the game in fall and spring. I promise.

“FRINGE” Best show on t.v… So disappointed that they are thinking about cancelling it. Also Terra Nova..Loved it. Fox you just seem to love the dumb, empty brain shows. We are all disgusted with your cancelling decisions! Wish “Lost” was still on! If Fringe goes…I think I am going to stop watching Fox!

You know, I was just thinking… Last year they rushed in a solid show, to replace a terribly rated show. This show never found its feet because of this. Then they cancel it, and introduce Alcatraz and Terra Nova, one which has already been cancelled and the other is 50/50… If they would have just kept this show, it would have made syndication with another year. This show was LIE TO ME. Sadly, if they had kept it, they would have had the same ratings, and a show to carry forward in place of these cancelled shows and a House which is ending. So sad.

Fox,..you people really suck. You cancel all the good and great shows and keep the queer and gay shows that suck. Fringe is one of the best just like Terra Nova and more, what a bunch of losers. I can guarantee you that there are many who think just like me,..you kept GLEE,..how gay and boring. You lost another good viewer here.
damn they had to cancel terra nova for the boring show fringe, it already got 4 seasons and terra nova only got 1 short
Netflix as been rather good lately, by picking up recently cancelled shows. They even flirted with the possibility of picking TN up for a second season, but they never said yes or not, so I guess they are still thinking about it..if they do pick it up, then they are very likely going to need new actors and new script writers etc…but then a reboot with better everything might do it the world of good..quite why they had to spend so much on it in the beginning threw me for a loop..surely if your going to spend so much on a show, then it’s going to be nearly impossible for a renew unless you pull in absolutely amazing numbers?
I can’t remember the final numbers for TN but I think it was something like 2.5 which isn’t brilliant..but a whole lot better than Fringe…on the same subject if Alcatraz does get a renewal at 2.7 then they should seriously take another look at TN..and consider making some major changes, perhaps even moving it to another time slot / day.. I never thought the show was that atrocious in the beginning and to be honest it should have had some treatment done or planned for it by season’s end to force Fox into renewing it..but nothing ever came about because they seriously thought the network would renew at the numbers they where getting.
Fringe on the other hand has to definitely be cancelled this season…otherwise it’s a mockery to their entire ratings system..if no one watches (below 1.0 ratings) then the decision to cancel had to be given..if a show is pulling 2.7 or 2.5 then by rights they should be renewed, especially in the case of money making TN.
The mind boggles how the hell Fox stay in business with the kind of stunts they pull.
