“So what if there are viewers, networks look for 18-49, the reason New Girl dropped was not because there were less viewers in it’s lead-in, it was because there were less 18-49 viewers. Like Ultima said, putting a show that gets 0.9-1.2 ratings a week with 7-9 million viewers is not gonna help the show following it get high 18-49.”

“It doesn’t matter if a show has 10 million 50+ viewers and all of them continue watching the next program, they are still the same age an hour later and therefore have absolutely no impact on its 18-49 demo rating.”

water cooler was right if a show is strong enough in the demo it doesn’t matter what its lead in was drawin’ it will grow. the lead in could be a 1.1 but if a show like The Voice aired behind it with a 3.8 then you would know it doesn’t matter. The show behind it will tie in its own viewing audience with the left over audiences from the previous show mixing in the demos.

NBC didn’t/won’t air the last few episodes of “The Playboy Club” but they keep airing “Rock Center” (and “Awake” and other shows) which has less viewers and lower ratings. Why?

  • mavsfan41

“Plus about Rock Center , since it is not on at 10pm and not a lead for the local news programs it is not as important for the affiliates that depend on decent lead in for local programming.”

exactly people need to realize that Rock Center is going to air regardless of its numbers and NBC placed SVU at 10pm to please the affiliates. Airing at 9pm will be more of a network issue than an affiliate issue.

    @Denver Dean
You don’t know that SVU would do any better on a Tuesday. It has lost viewers because of bad writing, bad acting and recycling of story lines. Moving it won’t help.

The Middle and Suburgatory held well. Modern family and Apt. 23 did very well

Rock Center is a news program from their news division and it costs barely anything to air it. Those are expensive shows so they need the ratings in order to survive.

NBC should not renew Harry’s Law. Renewing shows with dire 18 to 49 demos is what that failed “network” TheCW does. NBC should not follow that path which only leads to more failure. NBC should be developing new series to replace all it programming under 1.5 18 to 49 demo next season even if all these shows cannot be cancelled at once.

svu didn’t do too bad considering the lead in…they have got to cancel rock center or put it at 10pm…

  • Hadey

    TUE
    8:00 The Voice
    9:00 Downwardly Mobile
    9:30 Lady Friends
    10:00 New Drama/SVU/Bad Girls

    WED
    8:00 Off Their Rockers
8:30 Jimmy Fallon’s new comedy Table for Three
    9:00 Whitney
    9:30 Chelsea
    10:00 Chicago Fire

Whoever scheduled this I like this!

    @ SarahL
Harry’s Law draws too many viewers though. NBC should be getting shows that draw better in the demo but if their not going to be drawing viewership then there’s no point to find demo players.

  • rob60990

if NBC is satisfied with a show bringing them closer and closer to 4th place, fine by me. :D

@Hadey, Chelsea ain’t coming back. Also what about Biggest Loser?

  • E.S.

What happened to ratings for MIDDLE and SUBURGATORY? They used to be steadily above 8 or 9 mil each, wow.

  • OERM

After Apartment 23 got almost 3.0 on the demo, LMS and CT should be worried. I think ABC should give Reba’s new show the 9:30 spot on Wednesday, and Apartment 23 be paired with Happy Endings in some place on the schedule. ABC used to put a comedy after DWTS on monday after the show gets shorted (Samantha Who) but if they move it is gets low ratings.

  • Spurer

I think Rock Center needs to get rebranded and become more like Dateline since they have no choice but to stick with it.

  • Spurer

    @ rob60990
I wouldn’t be too surprised if Chelsea actually came back since Bent and BFF did so horribly and made it look good plus Comcast’s favorite girl Chelsea Handler is attached to it.

  • TVDude

I don’t get it either. Rock Center might be cheap, but repeats of other shows would be even cheaper. If I wrote NBC’s schedule for the fall, it would look like this:

    Sun: Football

    Mon: New Reality Show/Fear Factor/Smash
    Tues: The Biggest Loser/Comedies/New Drama
    Wednesday: Whitney/New Sitcom/Fasion Star/L&O:SVU
    Thurs: Community/30 Rock/The Office/Parks and Rec/Parenthood
    Friday: New Drama/Grimm/Dateline
    Saturday: Repeats

  • Bunny

If HE gets renewed and Apt 23 demo is not improving than we might have to say goodbye to them next season with only 13 eps ..ABC will them burn them off on a Friday at 10..

It’s better than being cancelled though so I hope for the best!

There entire point is that Rock Center is different than Dateline; otherwise, they would have just added another hour of Dateline.

  • Crysti

Looks like idol will once again be the only show to get a 5 or above this week :D

  • Ultima

Total viewers don’t matter. It’s a simple concept, but apparently very hard to accept.
