When it comes to bubble status, like the Renew/Cancel Index we're focusing on the likelihood that a show will be renewed **for next season** (2012-13). Certain shows are toss-ups where based on the ratings, the renewal decisions could go either way and not be surprising.
Here, “canceled” is used interchangeably with “won’t be renewed for next season” and is not meant to imply a show will be yanked off the schedule in the current season though obviously the two outcomes are not mutually exclusive. The semantics police and lawyers should feel free to break out the handcuffs and plead their cases in the comments. Besides, no matter what anyone at ABC says, reasonable people know with certainty that Pan Am isn't coming back next season.
This Isn't The Renew/Cancel Index
Though the basic methodology is the same (intra-network relative ranking of shows by adults 18-49 ),unlike the Renew/Cancel Index which predicts what would happen if the season ended now, Bubble Watch prognosticates about what will happen by May. The two are still usually closely aligned, and almost certainly very closely aligned towards the end of the season
retentionistas be Damned, Early Signs Good for 'Apartment 23'
The premiere of Don't Trust The B---- in Apartment 23 fared well enough to debut as "likely to be renewed." I'd have probably left it "on the bubble" for another couple of weeks, but it airs after a new Modern Family again next week and then after a Modern Family repeat on April 25. 'Apartment 23' would have to perform noticeably worse on April 25 than Happy Endings did out of Modern Family repeats to catch my eye, and I'll be surprised if that happens. Surprises happen though, so we'll just have to see.
Private Practice, Scandal and GCB on the bubble
For now I've still got Private Practice, Scandal and GCB all on the bubble. Of the three I give Private Practice an edge but that has more to do with its age than its ratings (it has two 2.1 ratings post Daylight Saving Time; hardly any better than GCB and Scandal did last week).
Missing Downgraded
At this point Missing's average is worse than The River's. Neither will be back on ABC next season.
Touch Still Likely to Be Renewed
Though I have little doubt Fox hoped for more out of Touch, if it levels off at around a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating (where it's been likely to be renewed), it's still likely to be renewed. Barely. Let the cries of "No fair! Fox should've aired Alcatraz after American Idol" begin.

You must have missed the list of 23 shows that have already been renewed. The “certain renewal” list is short because so many early renewals have already been announced.
Whitney all the way for renewal!
Chelsea’s still got a shot at renewal believe it or not thanks to Chelsea Handler a NBCU girl and the low ratings for Bent, BFF, and Thursday comedies.
Hart of Dixie have 0.6 demo rating today. Die The Secret Circle!
I don’t see Fringe getting renewed just to get to 100 episodes. We all know shows are being renewed to get to 88 episodes for syndication these days. It makes no sense for either Fox or Warner Brothers to scrape for another 13-22 episodes on top of that. Especially when there is no evidence Fringe is even LIKELY to be syndicated given its highly serial nature. If they HAD a syndication deal in the works, it might make sense – but they don’t as far as anyone knows.
So I discount the TVWise report. Fringe is still doomed. If it isn’t, then Fox clearly has some sort of ratings death wish…
Otherwise I think the only two adjustments I’d make to the list is moving The Secret Circle off the bubble to likely renewal and Nikita off the bubble to likely cancellation. Gossip Girl probably remains on the bubble given the rumors about it being “safe”.
You know there is something wrong with the world, when Rob might be renewed and Alcatraz/awake might get canceled. I guess TV is getting stupid and unwatchable. Books might be the only good entertainment left.
Catch REVENGE tonight at 10/9c.
Amazing.
How is Body of Proof likely cancellation when it is the 2nd most watched show on ABC and its also been #1 for the last three episodes
“How is Body of Proof likely cancellation when it is the 2nd most watched show on ABC and its also been #1 for the last three episodes”
2 episodes won’t save it.
“Most Watched” is meaningless. Its adults 18-49 ratings were still below ABC’s average.
I am going to really miss HOUSE but not in it’s current form. I do not understand why RULES of ENGAGEMENT is on the bubble. But otherwise, all of the really good shows are returning. LOL shows like Mike and Molly,Big Bang,2 Broke Girls,The Middle, and Happy endings have really good writers. The banter between Mike and Carl on M&M is priceless! If Private Practice is cancelled, they need to move Sam and Addison right on over to Grey’s.
I like Fringe, and want to see it continue…also enjoy Unforgettable, and The Finder…..amazing of the shows listed “on the bubble” I watch 0.
I liked Awake especially the penguin lol
Ugh, i love hart of dixie
I have to believe that Ringer will be renewed. The fat woman has not sung yet. Buffy was poorly rated the first year but went on to be one of the best shows on the WB. This is a primetime soap opera. It’s not a Law and Order episode where everything is neatly wrapped up at the end of the show. Ringer has too much competition in a Tuesday timeslot. There’s too much reality shows on. The audience needs something that’s different. The CW is a network that wants to be different. It has a different demographics as compared to ABC, CBS and NBC. The CW still connects. Let’s hope the heads of the CW judges the show on it merits.
Apartment 23 will be canceled because of name controversy. Work It and The Playboy Club were canceled because of that.
