Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.
Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.
Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

Go Alcatraz and New Girl, nice!
Those are some bad DVR numbers for THE SECRET CIRCLE. I remember that it used to hit a 1.3-1.5 easily. Freyja was right, when a Friday show does better than a Thursday show(SPN), there’s a problem. Maybe CW should cut their losses with TSC as well?
On the upside GRIMM is doing GREAT!
Good Fringe! A 2.0 rating!
I am sure that, Supernatural would have hit 1.0 by within 3 days after its original air date.
Sid, the CW has much bigger problems than TSC. They have a couple shows below 0.6!
Wow at The Mentalist adding 3.4 million more viewers after DVR viewing. Do you feel if it was at 9pm that more viewers would tune in live?
As long as the CW renews TSC I’ll be happy! I’ve got my fingers crossed!
I agree with Michael though, the CW has a lot more to worry about than TSC – which is just on a roll right now with its plot, and I can’t wait for it to return this Thursday!.
@Sid
They can’t cancel all their freshmen shows. They will milk the remaining juice in TSC in the next season and then exorcise it.
2012 cancellations:
1.One Tree Hill(Final Mid-season)
2.Ringer
3.Nikita/HoD
At least these shows will be certainly cancelled by May 2013:
1.The Secret Circle
2.HoD(If renewed for 2nd season)
3.Gossip Girl(Final Mid/Full-season)
@Michael
Very true, it’s just sad to see it shed so many viewers from its pilot to now. It’s most definitely Friday bound at this point!
To my above comment, Nikita will not be cancelled in its 3rd season for its obvious reasons.
I don’t want to turn this into a CW discussion, but I’m honestly hoping for the best with their new pilots for the fall.
Oh yeah no doubt the CW has other problems than TSC, but it is an issue for The CW to look at and think about. A Friday show does better or the same with no promotion that’s a big concern.
I am sure HOD, Ringer and Nikita or TSC will be gone. I doubt the CW will premiere more than 3 new shows..
@Freyja
I really doubt that. More than 3 new shows is highly impossible. CW might pretty well cut the budget of TSC and push it to Friday time slot and give it little promotion. It would get 0.5/0.6 for all its second season run and then it gets cancelled.
I think TSC is a real problem for CW – it isn’t a strong show, its not showing signs of growth, in fact I don’t even think its stablized at the level its at now. If they move it to Fridays, it will sink like a stone – its not strong enough to anchor a night, they can’t leave it behind TVD so what do they do with it?
Nice, this was the week of Grimm I was waiting to see when it matched Fringe with that 1.2. Happy to see it had solid gains in DVR that week.
Wow, Grimm! The 92% DVR increase the week of its series’ low is stellar. This combined with the increase last Friday really does suggest that people did not know that the new episodes were starting again.
Nice job csi new york. In its return week it shows people have missed it.
Interesting that almost all of the top 10 in % terms are either Friday shows (Fringe, Grimm, Nikita, SPN) and / or shows in serious cancellation danger (Awake, Firm, Ringer, Alcatraz, Fringe, Nikita).
With Friday shows I’d argue that high DVR figures are a) understandable, and b) a good sign of the overall interest in the shows given that so many people are out that night. With the struggling shows I’m not sure what it means. People clearly like these shows but not enough to watch them live. Is it a combination of being new shows, so not yet ‘appointment to view’ / an established habit with there audience, with strong competition from live reality shows, that most people do watch live rather than DVRing like X Factor, DWTS, the Voice etc?
TSC has even shown lackluster “7 Day results” for the last two DVR reports. I don’t know the answer to this question but it is there any monetary benefit to The CW renewing TSC and shoving it to Friday when The CW knows (or assumes) it will die and not be renewed for S3? Does having two seasons of TSC to sell to Hulu/Netflix mean more than having three seaons, even if shortened, of Nikita to sell? The average demo for TSC has to be far younger than Nikita and “the young” frequently have better things to do Fridays than watch TV. Does The CW has any expectations for a TSC S3? Rhetorical question, of course
