While the retentionistas are likely howling, a decent ratings start for Don't Trust The B---- In Apt. 23 has it debut as "likely to be renewed", but predictions based on early ratings are subject to change rapidly. Stay tuned.

Following the ratings loser Titanic special, GCB fell to a series low 1.5 adults 18-49 rating on Sunday. The trigger happy would predict it likely to be canceled now, but since it had a string of prior non-dreadful ratings, I'm not so quick to move it from a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.

Why is Cougar Town just a "toss up" with its dreadful ratings instead of "likely to be canceled" or worse? Because of past (negative) experience, I'm keeping shows in their third seasons (even shortened ones) no lower than a "toss up" because of potential syndication related benefits.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

According to Bill Gorman, the fate of Cougar Town will be determined by a coin toss. A flip of a penny can save Cougar Town? Or will ABC, like Canada, determine that it makes financial sense to eliminate Cougar Town, like the penny, because it costs more to produce than it is worth. Cougar Town in syndication in Canada will go over real well with dated references of a coin named a penny. I believe ABC will cancel Cougar Town because it just makes cents.

The PTC doesn’t like the B in Apt 23? Makes me like that show even more than I did after watching the first episode.

  • Jay S.

PTC and similar groups will get rid of Apt. 23, just like they did with Married…With Children and NYPD Blue.

    @Common Anomaly
    A Penny Can!

But seriously, I see how low it is in the index. I won’t be shocked if it’s not renewed. I’ll just enjoy what’s left of CT. Not worried about any of my other ABC shows.

I think Apt 23 will hit a 3.0 this week : good word of mouth and a new Revenge ep..

  • SJ

I wish GCB and Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 long, successful runs. I enjoy watching conservatives squirm! :D

I’d move GCB to likely renewal because I think it’s earned it and I don’t really see the final two episodes making that much of a difference.

I’m somewhat dreading Private Practice’s Tuesday night tryout. I hardly see it doing better than 1.8-2.0. Hopefully DWTS will stop falling; I really want to see Addie get that baby!

I need The B in Apr 23 to be renewed for 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10th final season :D God i love this show!!!!!

  • Bunny

I heard Cougar Town is the only current comedy that ABC fully own..the other is Happy Endings but they share it with Sony..

  • Harris

I have never and will never see “Don’t Trust B in Apt 23″, however, since the PTC doesn’t like it, I hope it gets renewed for 10 seasons and gets increasingly offensive.

  • zerg

    ahaaahah PTC

at least abc this year launched 5 likely/certain to be renewed shows..and 2 of them are dramas

So is Body of Proof officially dead despite its recent uptick? I don’t watch the show at all but its fans online(those polls on E!) have fans going crazy and even certain blogs are claiming the show may still have a shot?

  • Jeff (Canada)

Six seasons and a movie for Apt 23!

It has no shot. Kristen at E! is a jedi master of fan false hope.

Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23 is the show that New Girl should have been. It’s a MUCH better written and crafted show than New Girl. Zooey deserves better than the cast and material she has to work with on that show.

  • Brian

C’mon ABC; renew OUAT, Revenge, GCB, and Scandal now :)

To be fair, most conservatives dislike the PTC as well. Choices and personal responsibility trump elitism any day.

abc need to renew missing , body of proof, revange asap

Is Last Man Standing still looking good for renewal? It seems like its last 3-5 episodes its been less than 90% of ABC’s new show average and heading downward but maybe that’s just my perception.

Interested to see Apt 23′s 2nd episode ratings and see if it really is sticking around. GCB and Scandal are tough to call I think that if either does get a second season it will be for 13 episodes initially.

  • Richard Steven Hack

The Body of Proof actors are hyping for renewal and encouraging “save our show” efforts, but will be disappointed like every other such show. Jeri Ryan admits that the way ratings are is the way it is, but still touts the uptick in viewers as if it means anything.

Personally I liked the show but it was never compelling. It wasn’t badly done, just had various problems like the fact that the lead characters were hardly engaging and their side characters were mostly boring. Some lame attempts at sexing up the show in season two clearly fell short of the mark.

Only 2 new LMS aired in the last 6 weeks. Each was 90% or better than the ABC avg for the week.
