While the retentionistas are likely howling, a decent ratings start for Don't Trust The B---- In Apt. 23 has it debut as "likely to be renewed", but predictions based on early ratings are subject to change rapidly. Stay tuned.

Following the ratings loser Titanic special, GCB fell to a series low 1.5 adults 18-49 rating on Sunday. The trigger happy would predict it likely to be canceled now, but since it had a string of prior non-dreadful ratings, I'm not so quick to move it from a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.

Why is Cougar Town just a "toss up" with its dreadful ratings instead of "likely to be canceled" or worse? Because of past (negative) experience, I'm keeping shows in their third seasons (even shortened ones) no lower than a "toss up" because of potential syndication related benefits.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I had to reload 5 times before this stupid picture thing came up.

  • Rebecca

Next person to vote, take GCB off the list – and now we’re down to voting +1, -1, +2, -2. Thanks! Pic looks good, @Nick.

  • James

this game has become stupid because one person is picking a show to eliminate and then they vote enough to eliminate it

    quote from CT [1.24]:
Ellie: That’s even crazier than having 12 pictures of Taye Diggs in your apartment.
Laurie: I only put them out when Smith isn’t here. Ohhh…his smile lights up the world.

  • Julia

Since I happened to see your comment in the daily ratings (end of semester; avoiding doing work), I checked, and, yes, there’s cheating, and from my brief glance it was looked like it was all against GCB. But what I found most amusing is that this comment:

How about only the people logged on to the site can vote in the game. I would be sad not to vote anymore, but if that is what it takes to stop the cheaters then I am all for it.

    came from the worst offender.

lmao thanks Julia. Since there’s cheating, it’s time to end the game. Sad we can’t all play fair.

@Julia: Well, that’s shocking. So @Lizam is no longer allowed to play, now or ever again, in the Elimination Game. Any votes made by Lizam are to be disregarded. Sorry!

From Modern Family episode 2.10 “Dance Dance Revelation” –
Jay: Boys, here’s the only thing you need to know about being a man. Never let someone take what is yours.
Phil: Unless it’s just a parking spot and there’s plenty of others.
Jay: That’s sweet, Phil. You gotta write that down. You got any lipstick in your purse?

  • Rebecca

    Thank you!

I would agree with @rob60990 that perhaps the game, at least on the ABC thread, should end because of the cheating that @Julia discovered (because what’s to prevent it from happening again with other shape shifters) and just say that the remaining shows are the winning favorites. BUT if we continue the game, can all voters promise that they aren’t voting more than once per 24 hours AND are just using their one screen name? And I know they can promise but then do whatever anyway. I’m always me. I just sometimes wish I could change my avatar, lol.

Some people were voting more than once under different screen names – certain software or programs (whatever) can see what email address they’re using, and while avatars (profile pictures, which are encouraged so we know who is really who) are linked to one’s email address so no matter what screen name you use it’ll always be the same avatar/pic if it’s your same email address, the rest of us here don’t see that. We only see the screen name of whomever has commented/voted. @Julia was the one who detected that certain posters over on the CW thread (a while back) were cheating like this, too. And that’s one of many reasons we don’t play the game over THERE any more.

  • tvfreak

@Rebecca: Well, how about this for a new rule: Only established names on the threads, such as yourself, myself, rob60990, Justin121, Nick, still good shows on tv, Bright, etc. can play now. Any votes with strange names attached will not be recognized, especially if they attempt to consistently vote down or vote up certain shows (in which case they will be disregarded.) Obviously there is a blacklist of one now, hopefully it won’t grow bigger. Fingers crossed.

  • Rebecca

I’d go for that. What about something like: The next time you start the game (on tomorrow’s ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox threads, page 2 as usual) you ask us to briefly “register” to play. You know most of the regulars. I think new people might try to play if they’re new to the forums (this time of year might bring more people to the forums, wondering about their shows’ fates, especially the closer we get to that one week in May for upfronts). But if you ask them to comment to you that they want to play and understand the rules, then they’re in (?). The shape shifters might not “all” bother to do that. It’s better yet if they have an avatar/profile pic. In fact, if all the people with names used by others (Nick, James, the various Justins, etc.) had avatars we’d recognize them as the voting regulars. But know that new people might want to play once they know the rules. It’s going to look mean to single people out on each thread and say, “So-and-so is not allowed to play, so don’t go off their votes when you vote” so I don’t know exactly how to handle that part.

    CASTLE – 38 (-1) I had to :-(
    THE MIDDLE – 39 (+1)
    MODERN FAMILY – 32 (+2)

I’m honored to be known as one of the “established names” (especially adding the fact that I’ve been using this site for only a month or so :-D)
