While the retentionistas are likely howling, a decent ratings start for Don't Trust The B---- In Apt. 23 has it debut as "likely to be renewed", but predictions based on early ratings are subject to change rapidly. Stay tuned.

Following the ratings loser Titanic special, GCB fell to a series low 1.5 adults 18-49 rating on Sunday. The trigger happy would predict it likely to be canceled now, but since it had a string of prior non-dreadful ratings, I'm not so quick to move it from a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.

Why is Cougar Town just a "toss up" with its dreadful ratings instead of "likely to be canceled" or worse? Because of past (negative) experience, I'm keeping shows in their third seasons (even shortened ones) no lower than a "toss up" because of potential syndication related benefits.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did ABC's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    i cant for for abc new hulk tv series

  • MattM

    I still think you’re dead wrong about Missing. We will know soon enough.

  • Ultima

    @MattM
    I still think you’re dead wrong about Missing.

    I could list all of ABC’s dramas that are doing better than Missing, to show why there’s no chance it will be renewed, but it’s easier to list the ones that it outperformed – Charlie’s Angels, and that’s it.

    @ Mike R.

    That’s what I’m afraid of…

    If ABC had to choose.. I bet they’ll pick Apt 23 since they spend soo much money with promos/ads and burned off new eps of Happy Endings to premiere it after Modern Family

    Apt 23 is ABC’s new baby and they won’t give it up..

    @Sports Preemption
    “I like everyone else on that show more than I like Zooey. I think the roommates and her BFF make that show what it is. The whole Zooey shtick gets old after 10 episodes. Though seeing Zooey play the blondes role in Apt 23 might actually be funny.”

    Agreed! On all counts. It’s a Fox show on an ABC thread but I had to agree anyway. :-)

  • Rebecca

    Not worried about HE…it’ll return somehow, somewhere.

  • Teag

    The River! Be renewed!

  • Mike

    cougar town will be cancelled because theres no way that abc only plans to air 2 new sitcoms next season id sat at least 3 sitcoms will be cancelled

  • Kyle7

    To resurrect a slightly-old point of conversation, I believe the curse of Summer Glau only comes into effect if she’s a main cast member.

  • Ultima

    @Teag
    The River! Be renewed!

    That’s the spirit.

    What happened to all of the delusional Pan Am fans? It’s only April and they’ve long since given up… :(

    @Fred

    “Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23 is the show that New Girl should have been. It’s a MUCH better written and crafted show than New Girl. Zooey deserves better than the cast and material she has to work with on that show.”

    I couldn’t agree more! I watched two New Girl episodes and didn’t laugh once so I haven’t watched it since. The debut of Apt 23 had me LMFAO within the first couple minutes! It’s 2nd ep is now available on Hulu before it airs tomorrow if you wanna check it out.

  • Skylar

    ABC renew GCB, Revenge and Apartment 23! Especially the first 2, my 2 fav shows of the season.

  • Rebecca

    @Kyle7
    Right. And not if she is silent the whole time (Grey’s Anatomy) or plays herself (The Big Bang Theory). lol

  • Arya

    Summer glau’s appearance didn’t kill tbbt

  • Rebecca

    Fans of Revenge: Madeline Stowe was on the Ellen show today – if you missed it you can probably see a clip from her interview on Ellen’s show site (ellen.warnerbros.com). They don’t stream full episodes of the Ellen show anywhere, just clips.

  • JakeSnake

    Wow ABC is really fail when it comes to making renewal decisions. They’ve canceled a few, but other than that no official word even for the obvious ones.

  • Mike

    Yeah, it was a good episode last night. I saved a couple quotes from that one to use later, too. Simple, short ones (probably a first for me).
