As CBS' late season drama replacements typically do, NYC 22 arrived with a resounding ratings flop on Sunday night. It is certain to be canceled.

But that won't help A Gifted Man or Unforgettable, they're still certain to be canceled. CBS will want three hours free for new dramas next fall, and there's no room on their schedule for those ratings losers.

CBS will also cancel at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami). More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did CBS' shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I’m 100% certain that CBS is going to expand it’s comedy hours for two reasons.

    1) 5 out of it’s Top 6 highest rated shows are sitcoms, and Modern Family is the only sitcom on ANY network that gets ratings as high as CBS’s on a regular basis.

    2) There’s a very strong possibility that How I Met Your Mother and/or Two & A Half Men will be ending this year. I recall a couple people on the HIMYM cast saying that the show plans on running no longer than 8 seasons, and this coming season will be it’s 8th, and I honestly don’t think Ashton Kutcher will re-sign a long term deal for 2.5 Men. Not to mention that Angus T. Jones is 18 now and really can’t be considered a “Half” man anymore. And with that possibility lingering, CBS MUST create another monster hit. Expanding comedy hours would allow them to do so. Even though Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls are big hits, they would be the ONLY big hits on CBS if HIMYM and 2.5 Men are both gone in the 2013-14 season.

    3) CBS has a TON of pilots, and you’ve gotta believe they’re gonna pick up at least two of them (three if they cancel both Rules & Rob, or renew one of them and timeshare it). I hope the Martin Lawrence project gets picked up. I loved the old Martin show on FOX in the 90’s and I’m certain he could recapture at least some of the same magic with a new show.

Make that 3 reasons above, LOL!!

@KC Styles: >>> Not to mention that Angus T. Jones is 18 now and really can’t be considered a “Half” man anymore. <<<

2.5 Men COULD go on. From programs like "My Three Sons" and other family situation comedies in the past, when one cast member "grew up" (aka leaves the show) they always replaced that character with a youngest cast member who was either adopted by the parental figure because of a death in the family, etc.

I don't watch the show, nor have I ever watched it. But, you know with TV,
    anything is possible.

If they want to fix the schedule they should get rid of blue bloods it’s crap and gets horrible ratings even for a friday

  • Jbug

I wonder if CBS could give each (NY and Miami) a final 13 episode season…same slot, one fall, one spring (?) Might be a nicer result for those fans than finding out an unannounced series finale came earlier this year/

What is it with Yanks and reality TV shows like Survivor, Idol, Voice, Dancing, Jersey Shores, kardashians etc etc They seem to last forever yet as soon a someone brings out a show with a little quirkiness or involves a little thinking or, heaven forbid, does not have an American lead eg Chaos, Flashforward, Rubicon, The Gates, Persons Unknown and now possibly Unforgettable (the list goes on) they last one season and get canned because the viewers turn of in droves after minimum support from the networks. Instead of setting their sights at the absolute lowest common denominator of viewer, if the stations lifted their intelligence target somewhere above the level of a slug they may actually start educating their viewers and some of these very good shows would continue with the demise of those cr4qqy reality shows … or am I just dreamin’

How can you say a show will be cancelled after one episode? Talk about killing a show before it even gets going. Give NYC22 a chance

  • Petar

Hm, this friday CBS try test with two sitcoms in 8! So the huge dilemma POI at 9 or 10 in thursday is still ongoing! Come on CBS take the decision already! But i agree with POI in 10 only if is pair with 2BG! Like was testing in thursday TBBT-2BG-POI! Even start to like it because:
    A) 2BG and POI are from same year and season and must help them in next years, because will age together! Sitcom and procedural with long life!
    B) POI will not go against extended X factor/AI episodes in the fall! Than PoI was with lowest ratings! While PoI beat best NBC sitcom and best ABC drama and FOX best drama slot i think still will struggle against reality!

@Stevo: What about The Walking Dead? The Mentalist? Fringe?

    quote from HIMYM [6.10]:
Ted: Lily, do you have any idea how many people I blindly hated for you?! I hated Renée Zellweger with a burning passion for eight years only to discover you meant Reese Witherspoon!
Lily: Hey! I will hate her until I will get my money back for “You, Me and Dupree”!
Lily: Oh yeah…That’s who I hate. [to the others] Guys, we hate Kate Hudson.

  • Petar

CBS, please don’t mess with POI

I really don’t care anymore! What CBS decide i will be ok! Only want this line-up they were testing in thursday to stay:
    8 or 9 TBBT-2BG-POI!
No matter when they start at 8 or at 9! At least for me! In 9 they will crush everything and in 8 will do same thing! I mean other networks must be worry! No matter what CBS decision is!

“someone, I think GreatTVDude – unless that’s you also?”

I am one and the same. I’ve been trying to shorten the name, but it keeps changing it back on me and I fail to check it resulting in the appearance of two different people. :)

Yeah it’s sad that Rules may never end creatively. I think it’ll get another season though. I have a feeling it’ll get a 13 episode order ending at 100. So, if they get that 13, hopefully they tie all the knots. I doubt the cast will want to stick around for another year after that. They really should be looking into new pilots now.

  • Susan Broadwell

I just started watching NYC 22 and was amazed at how great it was! Taken from the perspective of the “street rookie” it gives a different slant to this type of show. Also points out how difficult the job is and the stress and danger encountered every day, sometimes every hour!! I am sorry to see it cancelled and believe it adds to the continued DUMBING DOWN of TV programming. These shows give a POSITIVE moral and ethical spin, rather than the glory of fame or money, as so many shows protray.

    From NUMB3RS episode 1.08 “Identity Crisis” –
Charlie Eppes: It’s like the evidence proves him right and wrong at the same time.
Dr. Larry Fleinhardt: Oh yeah, the old paradox of Schrödinger’s cat.
Alan Eppes: Is that that Persian that keeps hiding out in our garage?
Charlie Eppes: Uh-uh, it’s an intellectual exercise.
    Alan Eppes: I knew that.

@Rebecca: This is going to be off topic, but I gotta say, thanks very much for recommending Supernatural. It’s much better than I ever gave it credit for, just because it happens to be stuck on a netlet where most of the shows are designed for preteen girls. I have the grace to admit I’m wrong, which is more than Sheldon Cooper ever had. ;)

Plus, when just the first three episodes alone are jam-packed with some of my favorite classic-rock songs and woefully outdated pop-culture references that I actually get…no way I can’t like the show now!
