As CBS' late season drama replacements typically do, NYC 22 arrived with a resounding ratings flop on Sunday night. It is certain to be canceled.

But that won't help A Gifted Man or Unforgettable, they're still certain to be canceled. CBS will want three hours free for new dramas next fall, and there's no room on their schedule for those ratings losers.

CBS will also cancel at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami). More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did CBS' shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I don’t know if my comment will show up later, but I just responded to what you wrote regarding SPN and it isn’t here – nuts. Well, anyway, I’m glad you like it. I’m near the end of season 2 and I’m still enjoying it, mostly for the funny parts. In a way, it’s not too off topic, since I think CBS is at least a partial owner of the CW.

    I just want to say:

    IN YOUR FACE

to everyone who doubted the renewal of The Good Wife, this year or last or the one before :D.

  • WKD2

You all are so wrong. Unforgetable is a great show and wins it’s timeslot every week with 8 million plus viewers. Most of you must not have really given it a chance.

I HATE the new rules to this game, but anyway I voted for NCIS because it’s not only my fav on CBS but my fav on all of broadcast TV (the only show better is Breaking Bad IMO). I like Big Bang Theory, but it doesn’t need the help and will probably win regardless.

Oops, made an error. Now fixed!

@Rebecca: That’s good that there’s still funny parts in season 2. I’m just hoping that the humor doesn’t dial down too much as the series goes on.

  • Ralph

CSI Miami and CSI New York deserve to be renewed. CBS is not going to get any better ratings than CSI Miami and CSI New York provide at 10:00 Sunday and 9:00 on Friday.Launching successful new shows is always tough. Most new shows do not make it to a second season.

Why even bother airing airing pilots past September anymore?

  • susan i eagan

I thought unforgettable was a good show why are they cancelling this show

  • Cath

CBS has hung on to “Rules” this long, why not longer? It has certainly been a good place holder for whatever doesn’t stick in those various doomed comedy half hours.

Why not move The Mentalist to Tuesday at ten? It did well previously on Tuesdays. I actually like it at ten on Thursdays but think it is a mistake to put it on Friday unless they are trying to kill it. Wouldn’t be a good fit with Blue Bloods at all.

Have never figured out the mania for a two hour comedy block on Thursday. Why pay for four casts that could cost a fortune if successful?

As for NY22, I was surprised the show was good but, come on, you put it late on Sunday night and expect it to fantastic? Why didn’t they put it on Friday? They have a hole there. With all the promos I kept looking for it to be on Fridays. That seems like a fit. Three New York cop shows…why not?
