The end is near, but not near enough for my headline writing imagination in these weekly CW posts.

Writing these posts with no new news and the same three at risk shows in the headline has made it ever more difficult to come up with something new. Instead, I settled on something the Google searchers will appreciate.

Don't suggest I headline a post with "Something Will Be Renewed". Relatively nobody searches for that. ;)

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did the CW's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

CW part of that variety article:

Over at CW, the two most high-profile properties are considered locks for orders: “Arrow” and “The Carrie Diaries.” Insiders are raving about the perf of “Arrow” star Stephen Amell.

Also generating superlatives is Mamie Gumer, who stars as a medical intern in “First Cut.”

Fantasy dramas “Cult” and “The Selection” are seen as strong contenders, with “Selection” seen as being in the vein of “Hunger Games” in revolving around a poor woman chosen by lottery to enter a competish to become the new queen of a war-torn nation.

“Shelter,” from “One Tree Hill’s” Mark Schwahn and J.J. Abrams, lensed later than other CW pilots so it’s hard to get a read on it yet. And it’s no secret that CW’s “Beauty and the Beast” redo has been championed by prexy Mark Pedowitz, though it’s unclear yet how the finished product has been received.

So basically it says the same as deadline article. Arrow is a lock. Carrie Diaries is also a lock and even a stronger contender than the selection (billboard effect :) ). Not even a single mention of Joey Dakota. I guess the new part is that Mark P. loves B&B.

    Tvaddict predictions:

HoD: Since newly-appointed Network President Mark Pedowitz most certainly would like to avoid seeing the entirety of his first primetime lineup deemed a colossal failure, we’re fairly confident in a HART OF DIXIE second season renewal.

    Nikita: R.I.P. NIKITA.

Ringer: This ambitious attempt by the CW to think different is the reason their 2012 development pipeline is filled with sure things such as THE CARRIE DIARIES. It’s also the reason RINGER won’t be around come Fall.

TSC: After failing to capitalize in The CW’s most high profile timeslot by consistently hemorrhaging half its VAMPIRE DIARIES lead-in, you can pretty much stick a stake in THE SECRET CIRCLE.

(I could have put “either way” but I wanted to give an actual yay or nay. That said, if it does return, it will most likely be paired with SUPERNATURAL on Friday).

… Flop Of Dixie got soo many of em!

“Sophia &Hart of Dixie fans, tvaddict agrees with tvline, tvguide, usatoday that it has a very good shot at renewal. They had a article on cw bubble shows today and they say nikita, ringer are more likley to be cancelled,SC more likley to be cancelled but could be renewed & Dixie more likley to be renewed.”

Now I know you’re making this up because no way CW cancels The Secret Circle for Hart of Dixie!

Last time I checked, NIKITA was on the bubble on Tvguide, USAtoday, TvLine, SpoilerTv AND of course this site as well.

  • Sid

“… Flop Of Dixie got soo many of em!”

I would bet their all Brandy.

This is TvLines renwal/cancel index FOR THE CW.

    THE CW
90210: Could go either way.(Definitely coming back, THIS IS WRONG!)
America’s Next Top Model: A sure thing.(Already renewed).
Gossip Girl: A sure thing.(A safe bet or likely BUT NOT A SURE THING IMO)
    H8R: Officially canceled.(Goodbye!)
Hart of Dixie: A safe bet.(Ha!, Not a safe bet! It’s a toss-up/Could go either way).
    Nikita: Could go either way.
One Tree Hill: Officially cancelled; series finale set for April 4.
    Remodeled: A long-shot.
Ringer: Could go either way.(This is dead! No clue why it’s a toss-up for them)
The Secret Circle: Could go either way.(This is probably accurate)
Supernatural: A safe bet.(Should be a SURE THING!)
The Vampire Diaries: A sure thing.

As far as I’m concerned, the only site that has been almost 100% accurate with renewal/cancellations is THIS SITE!

“no way CW cancels The Secret Circle for Hart of Dixie!”

I can see the possibility of it. HoD can stand on it’s own, while there are questions about how TSC will do on it’s own. Dixie had the least advertising, it’s the easiest for new viewers or casual viewers to pick back up, is in one of the toughest slots, and this late in the Season is quite competitive in the ratings (last week it was the only one of Nikita, TSC and Ringer to score as high as a 0.6). I’ve also seen claims that it does well in W18-34, though I’m unsure of the truth of those claims. Based solely on the Season to date ratings, it’s not the most deserving, but depending on how Pedowitz views the situation, it could be the safest bet out of these four.

I’m not saying that it *is* the safest, only that the possibility is there depending on how the CW weighs the positives and negatives.

  • Adrian

“it’s the easiest for new viewers or casual viewers to pick back up”

I do agree with this. I hadn’t watched any HOD episode since February but I watched yesterday and was able to understand what was going on despite missing like 7 or 8 eps.

  • Sid

    @AO

I think it’s fair to wait one more week at least to see how TSC will perform. I mean I know Hart fans are ALL excited because of last weeks uptick but I guess they forgot that their show also saw a series low the week before when it returned(a 0.5-9p/0.4-9:30p)if I remember correctly.

Then there’s the case for TVD, TSC and NIKITA. I’m on twitter a lot and I saw that a lot of fans for all three of these shows(especially TVD) forgot that their show/shows had returned. So I think it’s fair to wait one more week to see if there’s an improvement. TSC has been the strongest of the freshman dramas since January when the renewal/cancel index was reseted so just because it had “one” bad week and HoD had “one” good week doesn’t mean anything has changed that much.

If anything, CW would want to see how the remaining episodes for both TSC and HoD perform before they make a final decision. I still stand by my decision that TSC will see another season while HoD WILL NOT.

Also, call me biased/hater/loser if you want but I have a strong hate for both Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. GOSSIP GIRL is deemed to have a farewell season while The Carrie Diaries is considered a “lock” for a pick-up. Last I read, CULT was gaining momentum(which means execs were warming up to it) and since it’s considered a 13 episode mini series(per season of course), I also think this might be picked up.

On a network that has 10 hours of original programming, I really think it’s unfair to have four shows with those two attached to each one. Like I said before, call me a hater/biased all you want; but that doesn’t seem fair to me at all.

  • Sid

    ^
That’s my sole reason as to why either Hart of DIXIE has to go because I guarantee GOSSIP GIRL won’t.

And it’s not like Hart of Dixie is some ratings juggernaut. CW might as well try their luck with a new show instead(preferably one that doesn’t have Fake Empire attached to it).

  • Sid

Here’s what spoilertv just said about last night ratings for GG/HoD

“The CW capped off the evening with a mere 1.1/ 2 in the overnights each for Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie. With The Secret Circle the highest rated of the freshman CW scripted drama trio, Hart of Dixie is unlikely to return next season.”

  • I Love Nicki Minaj

Starting to think that , RINGER WILL be Renewed !

Starting to think that , RINGER WILL be Renewed !

  • Rachel

Why argue over something you have no control over? No one here knows a goddamn thing about what shows will be renewed or not. Last I checked you didn’t work for the CW. May 17th we will all know for sure but until then SHUT UP!

  • Natalia

There was a rumour on Twitter that CW was going to renew “Vd, SPN, 90210 and Gossip Girl” with Gossip Girl having extended season not short! WTF! But Im not surpised judging by what WB president’s enthusiasm for Gossip Girl I won’t be surprised if he agrees to fund a whole season.
No news on TSC or Nikita.
But all in all, I’m betting on 4 pilots:
    1. arrow
    2. carrie diaries
    3. selection- even if it’s not a frontrunner they are not dumb to pass this on
    4. first cut/ cult according to spoilers CW had good things to say about these two shows.

before I would have said 3 new shows but judging by many things Im gonna guess 4

  • Rachel

There’s no way of knowing which pilots will be picked up until we know how the screenings for B&tB and Shelter went…

  • Natalia

    @Sid

A lof people said last weeks TSC was one of the better episodes and I agree. Some viewers will be back. CW are not dumb enough to renew a show with a .62 average over a show with a .81 average.

  • Chris

I hope Hart of Dixie gets picked up for another season. I like that chraming down home feel to it. Plus, Rachel Bilson is dfeinitely a cutie.
