I probably should have moved The Finder to "certain to be canceled" immediately after it was moved to Friday night, but I had other shows I wanted to put into the headline and I was gone last week and wrote my previous Fox renew / cancel post way in advance. Nevertheless, The Finder's woeful ratings on Friday confirm the obvious. It's certain to be canceled.

How can Fringe, with similarly woeful ratings, be just a "toss up"? Read last week's post about syndication if you're wondering.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did FOX's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

The Finder is clever and fun. I love the characters. This stinks :(

  • Jeff

Save The Finder! Best mid season replacement, great cast and different plots. No other new show can match the uniqueness. It deserves another full year.

  • sharp

The Finder is one of the highest on the index ! whats wrong with fox!!!! I hope they leave The Finder on air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sharp

Save The Finder!!!!!!!!!!!! go to Save That and write to fox asking them to give it another chance!!!!

  • karina

Keep the finder, anything that kids can watch you take off the air. What’s up with that,my grandkids love it!!!!!!

  • Mac Breck

FOX has cancelled more of my favorites than any other network. That’s why, for years, I would never start watching a FOX show until it hit its second season. However, they got me with Human Target and The Finder.

    Cancelled Favorites:
(Network, years, latest 1st run airdate)

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (FOX, 1993-1994), May 1994, 27 episodes.

Strange Luck (FOX, 1995-1996) February 1996, 17 episodes.

Brimstone (FOX, 1998-1999) February 1999, 13 episodes. – FOX put it on Friday nights, 8:00PM-9:00PM, Oct. 23, 1998, as a replacement, with little if any advertising. I only found out the show existed when its reruns aired on The Sci-Fi Channel in the Fall of 1999.

The Tick (FOX, 2001-2002) January 2002, 9 episodes, 1 unaired.

    Titus (FOX, 2000-2002), August 2002, 54 episodes.

    Firefly (FOX, 2002) December 2002, 15 episodes, 3 unaired.

John Doe (FOX, 2002-2003) April 2003, 21 episodes.

Keen Eddie (FOX, 2003) July 2003, 13 episodes, 6 unaired by FOX.

Wonderfalls (FOX, 2004) April 2004, 13 episodes, 9 unaired by FOX. The 4th episode put across from CSI, The Apprentice and Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital miniseries, and then replaced by reruns of The Swan [spit!]. After this, I swore off FOX new shows in first run, until Human Target.

Back to You (FOX, 2007-2008), May 2008, 17 episodes, 3 unaired. Watched via Netflix DVDs.

Human Target (FOX, 2010-2011, Feb. 2011, 25 episodes) – FOX had a great show here, but had to monkey with it and UTTERLY RUIN the show in the second season by adding Indira Varma as the boss (Ilsa Pucci) who no Human Target fans could stand.

    The Finder (FOX, 2011-2012, May 11, 2012, 13 episodes).

Now, I’m done with FOX. Buh, bye FOX. I WAS watching New Girl and Bones, too.

I’m really surprised that The Finder is being cancelled. It’s hilariously funny. I have been watching it since the beginning and I also watch Bones which is how The Finder was started. If they aired The Finder after Idol then I’m sure the ratings would be up but for the people who watched it because it actually is a good show are going to be upset like I am. I hope they change their mind and decide to do another season because it really is a great show.

  • Ryan

Fox truly F up again. Hope USA or TNT picks them up.

The finder is one of the more interesting shows. the characters work well together and even if the plot line is weaj snuff characters are still of interest. Keep the Finder.

  • Jewel Browning

I cannot believe the “FINDER” has been cancelled. It is one of the best shows that you have on TV this season and I will REALLY miss it. Take some of the horrible shows off the air and keep the good, CLEAN ones instead of the ones that should not be allowed on TV. I am sure there are others who feel this way but unfortunatley, you asked the wrong group.

  • akwy

I want The Finder to stay anyone with me??? The show is funny and great to watch, the cast worked great together. My son and I can’t wait for it to come on.

  • C

This just STINKS…………..The FINDER is a GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Willy

this old MotheFs dont really know what shows are good on tv just because people are not able to see the show when it airs does mean people dont watch it, for exaple The Finder is a great show it on a friday night more than have the people i know is out having fun and others are working. But if you go to thoes websites that you can download movies and tv shows you would see that The finder is one of the most downloaded shows there are with over 16000 for that night alone so pls dumn assess at fox bring the show back pls

  • Allen

Please keep The Finder, Alcatraz, and Touch. I watch them every week and all are phenomenal. Don’t want to see them go.

  • Mary

I loved the Finder. Maybe it will find a home away from FOX. Like USA or TNT?

  • MI

Hate to see “The Finder” go. Why is it that the populous is more interested in the unintelligent shows like the office or parks and recreation than shows that make you think. Thank god I just use my Xbox and Hulu plus or crackle than paying for cable which is full of crap. Sincerely a military man.

  • Bold

How is it a good show that is not rude or crude like the finder can get cancelled. Way to go garbage executives. I hope you r ratings drop under ground. Really pathetic. but oh yeah a real family show is family guy um not…. way to mes it up fox…

  • loki84477

The Finder is actually a good, entertaining show. Touch–well, not so much.

  • Meaux B

You kept Touch, Glee and dumped The Finder, you kept the double douche-bag shows and dumped The Finder. I guess America is in trouble.

  • MadSteph

I am very disappointed that FOX had the mis-judgement to cancel The Finder.
It was a very entertaining and funny show to watch. It was one of the only shows that I watched on TV! Aside from Dexter.
