I probably should have moved The Finder to "certain to be canceled" immediately after it was moved to Friday night, but I had other shows I wanted to put into the headline and I was gone last week and wrote my previous Fox renew / cancel post way in advance. Nevertheless, The Finder's woeful ratings on Friday confirm the obvious. It's certain to be canceled.

How can Fringe, with similarly woeful ratings, be just a "toss up"? Read last week's post about syndication if you're wondering.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did FOX's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

We love “The Finder”. Quirky, entertaining, fun and a likeable cast. Fox killed this show by moving it around. Knew when it moved to fridays it was doomed. If it had been onTNT or USA it would be considered a hit.

The Finder’s ratings looked pretty good until Fox moved it to Friday night. This is an excellent show. My wife and I watch it religiously and will miss it if it’s not renewed. Why Fox, why? Put it back on Thursday nights and then you’ll have your ratings. Our household is really getting tired of Fox’s handling of the shows we enjoy. You take away the shows we love, we can do without the rest of your shows too. We’ll turn to other networks and say goodbye to Fox.

Last year the only shows I watched was Bones & Fringe, then I started watching The Finder, Alcatraz, & Touch, it seems like just when I started to like “FOX” again they start canceling good shows again instead of giving them a better chance! Ugh so irritating!

Surprisingly, for me, I watched a lot of Fox this year. I watched “Terra Nova”; loved the idea, hated the execution. Watched “House”—mostly because it was on at 8 (Central). Liked “Alcatraz.” Got into “The Finder” even though I hated the pilot. And, of course, “Fringe” and “Bones.” I liked that Fox moved “Bones” to Monday. It was always the third choice for me on Thursday; no similar competition on Monday evening, just comedy and reality.

I read though Fox’s pilots list, and nothing looks promising to me.

Lol no. ‘The Finder’ ratings have been a disaster since it premiered. It’s a “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” spin-off disaster of what ‘The Finder’ is.

This just proves that I’m part of a minority…when it comes to shows I like. I don’t really get into many actual shows anymore since getting out of college, but when I did, I liked that one show on NBA with Matthew Perry (think it was called Studio 60 or something like that). Lasted one season. I liked Heroes, only lasted a few seasons (though I think that was more the writers fault than anything). And now the Finder. The Finder is funny, smart, plots that aren’t too far out of the ordinary but they are made amazing by the cast. I mean, I already think “I’m gonna risk it!” needs to be put on a T-shirt. lol. I don’t know how Executives could think that moving the show to Fridays would get better reviews. Families go out to eat more on Friday than they do Monday through Thursday (those are take out days, food comes to them). Teenagers and Young Adults are out of the house by 7 on Friday to go to the club or party. What kind of crowd were they trying to bring in with their slotting of the show? Middle aged single people who are depressed and staying home on a Friday? And I’m sorry, but no 12 year old is going to fully understand the jokes thrown around in that show. I think Fox killed the show, not the show itself.

Just like Warner Brothers’ “Chuck” on NBC last season, “FRINGE” will get a formally announced “final season” of 13 episodes. Tonight’s wild episode in 2036 shows where that last season will be going, with Peter and Olivia’s daughter, Etta, leading the new Fringe team. This show truly is the most unique thing on television. I look forward to seeing how all the twists and turns finally end ;)

On a solitary nit-picking note, shame on the FX team for not only getting the new One World Trade Center Tower wrong (in the first primary shot zooming in over the East River, the Tower’s signature antenna is missing, only to have it suddenly appear in the final shot outlooking the monorail), but the rest of the new World Trade Center Towers are totally missing (Towers 2-7). The blueprints for the new World Trade Center have been public record for many years now, so the Special Effects team should have gotten this right!! :(

Shame about The Finder. I liked it, too much competition on its original Thursday night, I think…
    Oh well :(

  • Randy

Fringe is in a bad timeslot even though I know it’s on a Friday because it wasn’t doing so great in the previous timeslots, but if look at it’s competition, it’s doomed! You have 2 other shows that are in the order of Fringe. Detectives search for either dead people, or injured people, and solve crimes. Now, some might say that CSI NY is different because the crimes aren’t “fantasy” or “out there”, but you still have Grimm as big competition along with another show. Fringe has too much competition at that time.

Plus, on the CW the only totally I guess guy show is Supernatural, and that’s on the same time as Fringe. What do you think is going to happen? Fringe should have been on at 8pm Thursday instead. Why don’t they put a hour of cartoon block on Friday instead? It’s puzzling why Fox puts new cartoons on Sunday night….

I am one of the viewers that throw off the ratings as I dont watch from a TV but from my computer so my views as does many others dont count. I think they need to take a ‘net viewer count’
I loved the pilot of the finder on bones. I believe they had the perfect cast at that time.
I still enjoy the show and the two original characters (Walter and Leo. Ill say it again. It was the original 3 that made it work and wish they would bring them all back. Regardless I still watch the show faithfully.
PLEASE DONT CANCLE! BUT please do try and bring back the original female character.
