I probably should have moved The Finder to "certain to be canceled" immediately after it was moved to Friday night, but I had other shows I wanted to put into the headline and I was gone last week and wrote my previous Fox renew / cancel post way in advance. Nevertheless, The Finder's woeful ratings on Friday confirm the obvious. It's certain to be canceled.

How can Fringe, with similarly woeful ratings, be just a "toss up"? Read last week's post about syndication if you're wondering.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did FOX's shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Even with CortexiphanFan’s corrections the totals were still wrong, so factoring in his/her original vote here’s how it should stand, with my votes added (checked it a couple times):

    FRINGE – 63 (-2)
    RAISING HOPE – 22 (+2)
    ALCATRAZ – 20
    NEW GIRL – 19 (+1)
    TOUCH – 34 (-1)

    quote from RH [2.22]:
Burt to Virginia, about her court dress: I like it. You look like the hooker from “Pretty Woman” but in the movie where she’s a lawyer.

  • Rebecca

Fox fans, don’t forget: the 25th Anniversary Special airs tonight from 8-10 pm. (7-9 pm in Central and Mtn time zones.) Looking forward to it. Can’t believe I’m older than a network. The special is preceded by an old episode of “Married With Children” and an old episode of “The Simpsons” (I think it’s the 500th). Seacrest is hosting, but I’ll overlook him. The X Files, MWC, The Simpsons, MADtv and other popular Fox shows will be represented.

A surprisingly lucid Maw Maw Moment from Raising Hope episode 1.15 “Snip Snip” -
Burt: She is only allowed to vote if she’s lucid.
Virginia: Maw Maw, we are currently at war with what country?
    Maw Maw: Iraq and Afghanistan.
    Jimmy: Is she right?
Burt: I think so, but I’m not sure.
Maw Maw: It’s right, you morons. One more reason why you shouldn’t have another baby. Look, we’re five people living in a four person house. We need another baby like we need a gorilla throwing fireworks.

Don’t get the wrong idea about Fringe… I had to :-(

  • Rebecca

I only vote Fringe down because it’s the only show in the game I don’t watch – and it might win this game anyway. I have nothing against the show. I just added season one’s discs to the Netflix queue, but it’ll be a while before I get them.

The fact that people think The Finder is too intelligent for the masses makes me definatley think that this world is going down hill. I’m 16 years old, and I can easily understnad the Finder. Knowing that this is too intelligent for some people makes me wonder….. NO WONDER OBAMA was elected president!

    quote from NG [1.21]:
Young Girl: Your life’s like Gossip Girl, only everyone is old and poor.
Jess: You know, there actually was a show like that. It was called Golden Girls. I’m Betty White, Schmidt’s Rue McClanahan…

An executive producer for Fringe was asked on a scale of 1-10 what did he think of the chances of renewal. He responded 9.99

  • Dennis

    FRINGE – 65 (+2)
    RAISING HOPE – 23 (-2)
    ALCATRAZ – 21 (-1)
    NEW GIRL – 12
    TOUCH – 37 (+1)

@ Rebecca thats why I always mark down Raising Hope :)
and when you do finally get to Fringe, while watching the first few episodes you may wonder what the fuss is all about,,,,it’s one of those shows that starts out as….good, but then just improves greatly as it goes along.
I would even say season 1 is the worst out of the 4

  • tvfreak

@Dennis: Good advice for future Fringe fans like myself. :)

    FRINGE – 64 (-1)
    RAISING HOPE – 24 (+1)

From Raising Hope episode 1.22 “Don’t Vote For This Episode” –
Rosa: It seems my mother thinks that your son is the Devil.
Virginia: Hah! I kinda doubt the devil would still be a virgin at eighteen.

  • Rebecca

    @Dennis
But season one is at least watchable? I can’t remember why I never watched it from the start…maybe I had some other show conflicting with it (and didn’t have hulu back then). I was just never interested. But I can’t just jump to season two without watching season one, right? I’m really only going to watch because Walter seems interesting and funny, from clips I’ve seen of him.

  • Rick Adams(TV PRODUCER)

    Hi Guys,

As a FOX Television Producer one of the hundreds here we where VERY disappointed with the show’s! To Answer many of the Comments you have above from Mike regarding American Dad.

American Dad is handled through Macfalene* ( I understand this is incorrect)

We are understanding why Many of your shows above are added there was a reason to cancel. Touch Is up for a Elimination if the ratings drop by the end of MAY.

    FRINGE – 65 (+1)

Sad to see that The Finder has been cancelled. It’s the only network show I watched. I hope a cable channel will pick it up. As was said earlier on, it’s definitely too quirky for the masses. I imagine it will be replaced with another “reality” show. Blech. I’ll stick to cable. Network just doesn’t cut it for me.

BY the end of season 4 , Fringe will have the minimum number of episodes needed for syndication. Therefore, the boost you give for syndication does not apply.

Why is it that The Finder isn’t The Finder(F)? It is airing on a Friday.

    @DougF
Napoleon thought he had a 90% chance of victory at Waterloo.

    @tvfreak
You are aware that Raising Hope and New Girl have both been renewed, aren’t you?

  • tscchope

Alcatraz has finished its run and ought to have * after it.
