VH1 CLASSIC SET TO PAY TRIBUTE TO LEVON HELM OF THE BANDWITH “THE LAST WALTZ”
 
“THE LAST WALTZ” AIRS FRIDAY, APRIL 20 AT 9PM ET/PT ON VH1 CLASSIC
NEW YORK, NY –April 19, 2012 VH1 Classic is celebrating the music and memory of drummer Levon Helm of The Band with the special presentation of “The Last Waltz,” the famous concert film taped at Winterland in San Francisco which documented the band’s farewell tour performance. “The Last Waltz” was directed by Martin Scorsese and included behind-the-scenes interviews with Scorsese and members of The Band.
Vh1 Classic will air a special presentation of “The Last Waltz” on Friday, April 20 at 9PM ET/PT.
After more than 16 years on the road and 10 studio albums, The Band celebrated their farewell concert on Thanksgiving in 1976. The historic farewell performance included a legendary line-up of musicians such as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell and many more.

    Wow, what a benefit to us! First of all, this channels still in SD! Secondly, the movies been available in HD and Blu-Ray, and on other channels for years. Third, Im sure TPTB at Vh1Classic will fill the timeslot with massive commercials, self-promoting spots, and of course, PSA’s! And lastly, God knows HOW much of this film will be edited and sliced!

    Yeah Brutony, but…. in this day and age of pop drivel, and music stations not playing music, it’s pretty amazing to see them even doing this. I flipped around all of the music related TV stations last not and there was no mention anywhere of Levon’s passing. If Gaga had kicked it we’d be inundated 24/7. I’ll take this small victory. But I own the Last Waltz on DVD anyway so I’ll be watching that instead!
