Scandal is toast for getting these numbers against a repeat of The Mentalist. It has yet to air against an original episode of The Mentalist. If it’s pulling such low numbers against a repeat for competition watch the ratings tumble when it goes up against an original episode. The network is aware of this. Scandal is toast!
Why does everybody think Scandal is toast? It’s a great show that just keeps getting better each episode. and 3 straight weeks at a 2.0 during spring where every show that hit season/series lows. Why would ABC can this? The stability shows that word of mouth is helping this show and that it has great potential to grow given a fall launch. No one ABC cancels this.
Missing on the other hand won’t be back, maybe for the summer like originally planned, but not for the regular broadcast season. But ABC can’t be mad about the show. It seems to have leveled off at a 1.4 with still over 7 million viewers in a tough competitive time slot. It did what it was supposed to do.
I personally believe that Scandal in on the wrong network and it would strive better on another network such as TNT. After three episodes ppl are already saying “cancelled” I have been away far too long from tv to understand these ratings therefore I cant understand how other shows survive on other networks with such horrible ratings…so freaking unbelievable. I also have a belief that its on the wrong day…it should be on Sunday nights 10pm where I have something to watch bc I usually switch off the tv.
“It has yet to air against an original episode of The Mentalist
It did in its premiere.
Shonda I know you are dedicated to ABC but I feel it necessary to say if they wish to can your excellent show I suggest you shop it to another network. IMHO your show is absolutely and positively amazing compared to most of the stupidly written dramas that my brain has been subjected to over the years excluding Southland. I’m 36 and if a drama doesn’t have a strong African American female presence then its not made for my beautiful dark brown eyes to even entertain!
NBC has a very sad looking line-up.
Also, it looks like Scandal and GCB are in race to escape the bear, cause i doubt ABC will renew both “less than-moderately” rated shows.
If you think about it, The Secret Circle is doing the worst on The CW. Sure, Hart of Dixie, Ringer, and Nikita get those same ratings. But, Hart of Dixie has Gossip Girl as a lead-in, Ringer had 90210 repeats most of the time for its lead-in, and Nikita is on a Friday (which really isn’t much of an excuse). The Secret Circle has the best possible lead-in on the network and its getting the same low ratings? It deserves cancellation over anything else.
@Sports Preemption
Grimm should be available on both of those sites tomorrow morning for online viewing.
Awake is really doing good! Not really.
Shame, for such a wonderfully written show. If it was picked up by FOX or CBS it probably would have lasted.
Nikita season 3 here we come
What?! 1.0 for TVD?!! wow((
I’m convinced now more then ever that Secret Circle is not long for this world. If it’s getting these numbers with the network’s strongest lead-in it would probably be below Ringer without the help of TVD.
If Nikita’s ratings are better than Secret Circle, HOA and Ringer this week, it will be back for sure for a season 3.
@JeffInChicago – I agree that Missing is a pretty good show (would be even better if it were on a premium cable channel like HBO), but it is NOT the best show on Thursdays. The BEST show on TV (network tv) is absolutely Person of Interest. It’s not even close. The action and the character interactions (b/n Caviezel and Emerson) are spectacular and the action is amazingly well filmed also!!! Honestly, in terms of best show on network tv, it’s not even close (IMHO) – PoI is by far the best show!
Come on Missing stay up!!
Why are people acting as if The Mentalist is some kind of death star? It and Private Practice have co-existed for almost three years in that time period. Besides which, TM won’t be doing much better than low 2s for the rest of the season, so it’s not much of a threat anyway.
@rob60990
GCB is way too young skewing to air post-DWTS. It’s unlikely that it would do any better than Private Practice. But I agree that Castle should move.
If and when Scandal gets renewed over GCB I think it’s gonna be sooo unfair. They made sure Scandal got the stronger lead-in all-new for its entire run while GCB got the weaker lead-in that wasn’t even on all the time. They gave it a rerun lead-in and a miniseries lead-in.
IMO, both should be renewed even with a 1.8 average. I’m a big-picture kind of person. Housewives, Practice and Grey’s are all nearing their end. The new army of ABC dramas should consist of: Once Upon A Time, Revenge, GCB, Scanda, Castle, perhaps even Body of Proof since it started doing decent behind DWTSR. Castile and BoP are procedurals so tehy have a longer shelf life and the ability to grow.
They need to find more hits, though. Aside from OUAT, none of these are even close to Grey’s and Housewives 2011-2012 ratings.
Fringe was simply amazing last night, but I predict another 0.9
CW just needs to not air May and avoid regular repeats. End seasons in April. Simple.
I can’t continue to think that the loss of housewives will be really hard on ABC. I can see them going into an NBC situation. Modern Family (Friends), The Middle (Frasier) ending at about the same time, not being able to find a big hit after Grey’s (E.R), Housewives (Law and Order:SVU, Heroes, Law and Order), not finding a big hit after Modern Family (Friends) ends, big reality show DWTS, The Bachelor (CA- sort of, Fear Factor- old version- revived one not didn’t do too bad- still no hit, Deal or no Deal, TBL-sort of) continue to decline and not do good anymore.
The Middle (Frasier, The Office)
