Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    @bluejays:

    “Nice to see Greys up. Idol and Voice vying now for a similar position overall I’d think?

    Its pretty clear CBS are thinking of either moving Mike and Molly to Fridays and having a comedy block there, or expanding the Thursday comedy block, pushing POI to a ten pm slot and moving The Mentalists to Friday. Be interesting to see which one they go for.”

    What makes you think CBS is thinking of moving “Mike and Molly” to Fridays? All indications, or so I though, were that the network was thinking of moving “The Mentalist” to Fridays and going for four sitcoms on Thursday.

    Fail Nielsen numbers. All networks should sign up with Rentrak.

    This is kind of random, but based on the numbers it got, is NBC gonna bring Fear Factor back? I’m a young guy and other than football and Fear Factor, I have no reason to watch anything NBC has. Seriously, what guy would sit down to watch Whitney or Are you there,Chelsea?. I’m beginning to realize that Bob Greenblatt only wants to show programs that my dead grandma would want to watch. FEAR FACTOR!!!!!!!!!!

    If total viewership is irrevelant why is it shown in the ratings. Why don’t they show demos and demos only.

    Community was a mess of an episode. I GET that they want to be “that” TV show but it comes at the expense of actual laughs. Comedy does not need to be so “meta”. Just be funny, darn it! I’ve officially decided that Community deserves what it gets. It is asking for it when it tries to hard and stops actually being funny.

    On the other hand, you have Parks and Rec which is just flawless. Always hilarious and doesn’t mind being a little goofy to get there. Community is the stuck-up friend who is full of herself and Parks and Rec is the silly chubby one who makes everyone laugh. I’ll hand with the latter over the former every freaking day of the week!

    TVD was awful last thursday. Basically most of the cast was missing and thelong awaited Delena kiss scene was stale.
    I miss when this show was well rounded and all the characters had equal airtime. TVD has the best ratings when all the fans are happy, not just one couple.
