   That’s a big shocker. Gerry was half of Stealers Wheel, a duo I absolutely adored. I don’t check on them for a few years and he’s gone. It’s sad. Same thing with some other performers from my youth, and some others look like life has caught up with them suddenly. Wow.

   @AppleStinx: Did you know that there were three different versions of “Baker Street,” Gerry’s monster hit of 1978? They were all pitched at different streets.

   The longest version was on the “City To City” LP. Pitched slow.

   The ’45′ commercial version was shorter in length, but the song was pitched higher than the LP version.

   The fastest version was also the shortest: The ‘radio edit’ or ‘DJ’ copy.

   Re: Stealer’s Wheel. I can never listen to “Stuck In The Middle With You” without picturing Mr. Blue (Michael Madsen, in Quentin Tarentino’s “Reservoir Dogs”) dancing with a switchblade, then cutting off the ear of an L.A. cop. That was during Steven Wright’s “The Supersounds of the ’70s” weekend then played on the radio throughout the movie.

   I had the ‘City to City’ LP and cassette, but wasn’t aware of the alternate versions. Will look for them, thanks.
   Good thing I never watched ‘Reservoir Dogs’ , however I found out with ‘Kill Bill’ that I didn’t really dislike Santa Esmeralda’s cover of “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” after hating anything disco back in the 70s – there are far worse things passing for “music” these days.

   I do not watch The Simpsons program. But heard that they did a special episode celebrating being on the air 20 years with Fox. However at the end they posted a special tribute an thanks to the relationship with Fox…. And at the bottom of the message it said “this does not include Fox News” love it!!! Lmao!!

   The Food network’s Diners, Drive Ins & Dives must be a decent show. It’s in the list at least 12 times. Must be some nudity in the show.

   Erin Burnett’s 7pm airing the only CNN show to place 2nd in the demo. Allot of you think she she be fired. The woman is a power house at 7pm.

    Yikes. I come from the Lindsay Lohan thread, with Sherilyn Fenn in mind and you just had to bring up Guy Fieri and nudity.

    Listening to the 4 minute version of ‘Baker Street’ felt as if I ought to be rushing to go somewhere, can’t say I liked it. I also came across a demo, no sax, with a latin rhythm (cha cha cha?), interesting.

    We might have leased our house last night. If so, I will be heading south for good in a month, I hope. We decided to lease instead of selling right now and give it a few years to see what the market does. Taking a slight loss so we can have a write off next year. I say I hope because a company in Atlanta contacted my better half and wants her to come in and see what they can offer her. So we may be going west but not Jeff west. Not real keen on the west thing but if they offer stupid money she will be gone with me in tow.

    Happy to hear you may finally get South for good, And your right about not heading far West, I posted that story about how many people are leaving California and it is in bunches. George Lucas even announced he is not going to build his new skywalker movie studio he is building out there.

    I’m only on my second cup so I’m refraning from posting much till my 3rd cup is down

    ya gotta sllep before ya wake up!! When you get old you only have two choices, lay there and rest or die! Sleep is not an option

    Good to hear about the lease! I manage a half a dozen homes for clients that did the same thing. I take 10% for collecting the rent and taking care of repairs etc. When you say “west” you dont mean Coffee Steve kentucky west do you? That would cause an international crisis!!

    New California Taxes Pay for Pensions, Not Schools

    Most Californians would be surprised to learn that 100 percent of education’s share of the tax increase proposed by Governor Jerry Brown will go to pensions instead of classrooms.:

    TAX , tax, tax.

    Bloomberg ,also had this article yesterday on Illinois.

    Illinois ‘Treads Water’ as Unpaid Bills Top $9 Billion

    “Illinois’s backlog of unpaid bills has risen to more than $9 billion because of pension costs and falling federal aid, leaving the state “essentially treading water,” Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka said.

    While revenue grew from higher personal and corporate taxes, “Illinois’ financial position has not improved,” Topinka said in a report today. The combination of unpaid bills to vendors and Medicaid obligations, estimated at $8.5 billion in January, means payment delays will persist, according to the report.

    Illinois is second only to California as the state with the lowest credit grade from Standard & Poor’s.”

    Taxes & pensions being the culprits.

    I been reading alot of news and I’m happy to report that todays seems to be a very slow news day, I like that, lets hope it stays that way. Only thing I thought about posting about is the fact that Greece’s total economy in just a month has shrunk 5% which is massive, and Spain and Italy might as well give up, they are headed for a collaspe and there’s not a thing anyone can do. They in fact will default by mid 2014. Greece even sooner.

    We need Mighty Mouse to come and save the day…LOL

    25 to 35 year old males are still on a hormone high. I think “The woman is a power house” is miss stating it, “The woman is a Babe”. When the hormones stop driving the viewership and the brains start working veiwers will drift elsewhere. Her numbers have been drifting down for a while.

    But don’t worry she has a contract with CNN so they will be trying to find way to improve her ratings by changing time frames and format so that your hormones can be somewhat satified. If that doesn’t work they will find another Babe for you to watch.
