Bored with the recycling of topics in the CBS renew/cancel posts? Me too. Blame Les Moonves for renewing all those shows early!

To make room for new dramas in next Fall's schedule, CBS will cancel at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami), and maybe both. The conventional wisdom is that if its only one NY goes and Miami stays, but I don't think there's enough behind that conventional wisdom to trust it.

Those imagining that CBS will keep them both with some sort of timeslot share or Saturday timeslot have very vivid imaginations.

What do you think?

More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too. Two and a Half Men will be renewed, unless something freakish happens and Ashton Kutcher's salary demands aren't met.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did CBS' shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

  • The Big Toe

Come on, CBS will NOT cancel either of them.

  • Marc Lassen

I have good intel that CSI Miami is safe for at least another 13 Episode Commission , the same can’t be said for CSI NY as i also heard that Gary Sinise wants to quit having done 8 years in the Big Apple.

That said i was suprised that TGW got an early renewal but i hope from a business point of view that if TGW tanks further that it gets truncated as is needed.

To Wrap: My Favourite New CBS shows of the season were (and are) Unforgettable , A Gifted Man & Person Of Interest.

CBS made the IMO terrible decision to ever give 2 Broke Girls a pickup – a show so bad that i get nostalgic for Til Death , which despite ratings issues was laugh out loud funny and actually portrays credible surburban scenarios.

  • mike

i think csi miami may get new season and csi ny as of nyc 22 will be cancelled

“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

  • martha

really, rookie 22 cancelled already, LOL that was a sure bet.
advertisers want viewers to watch a show, so keep all csi shows
look at the law and order shows.

  • sally

i like csi ny and csi miami,i cant stand nyc22,i will watch some other network

  • Nick

    @Christy,
I never said I don’t like the Mentalist. What little I have seen was good, but I like Person of Interest and HIMYM more.

    @tvfreak
    Thanks, lol

  • karin

    i hope both…
New dramas please CBS,sp tired of CSI..

  • Paul

I love CSI: Miami and that show they replaced it sucks majorly. I hope CBS does the right thing and has at least one more season of Miami. They already screwed up Two and a half men by firing sheen and bringing that hobo ashton kutcher, don’t mess up again

I found it…the quote from 2BG that mentions Revenge (this is for you, @Justin121) [1.19]:
Michael: Love her…So Madeleine Stowe in Revenge.
    Steve: Oh, she is.
    Caroline: I don’t watch that.
Michael: We love it. It’s all about a young blonde woman who’s out to seek revenge on everyone for destroying her family.
Caroline: Yeah, too close to home.

  • Shenna

I also love Gary Sinise and Sela Ward, Give CSI NY one more year.
Its the only CSI that I watch and it’s because of those two.

  • martinex

Frankly I wouldn’t miss any of the CSIs but “Miami” is so bad it’s funny. David Caruso has supplanted William Shatner as the biggest ham to ever appear in a television series.

  • oneiron

I’d dump both CSI-NY and CSI-Miami. Give a Gifted Man a time slot other than Friday night. Order up 11 more episodes of NYC22 and give it time to find its legs. The weakest part of Rules of Engagement is David Spade. Mehan Pryce and Patrick Warburton carry the show as does “Timmy.”

  • bronxite

Like CSI NY better specially this year. Gary Sinise and the entire cast is great they work so well together the episodes are so much better..

CSI Miami would be better if they get rid of Caruso he really can’t act nor is he really in the show.. Emily Procter, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, Rex Linn are great and hold the show together.. Get rid of Eva La Rue also nothing there except sounding like a whiny everyone else’s fault

too bad they kept mike and molly, broke girls, never saw Rob ..

  • bronxite

Good Wife is a very good show would be great if cbs stopped moving it to different times. I dvr’d 4 hours on Sunday because you never knew when football ended. Blue Bloods is another good show glad it was renewed. I hope and Hawaii 50 makes it too.. unfortunate that Unforgettable and Gifted Man were canceled both were decent.
would be better to get rid of 2Broke Girls, any reality show they are horrible

As for Sundays I wish cbs would put two 1/2 shows that mean nothing on at 8pm so they can be missed and not push all my 9-11 shows to 10-12 it is totally ridiculous,.,,,

  • TheOneAndOnly

    @bronxite

CSI Miami would be DEAD without David Caruso. He IS the show. If you don’t like him watch the 7352735 other shows with a typical black haired male model as a protagonist.

  • MJDB

    Renew Rob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sadiejeanette

CSI NEW YORK so much more realistic too much sun in the other one!
