Bored with the recycling of topics in the CBS renew/cancel posts? Me too. Blame Les Moonves for renewing all those shows early!

To make room for new dramas in next Fall's schedule, CBS will cancel at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami), and maybe both. The conventional wisdom is that if its only one NY goes and Miami stays, but I don't think there's enough behind that conventional wisdom to trust it.

Those imagining that CBS will keep them both with some sort of timeslot share or Saturday timeslot have very vivid imaginations.

What do you think?

More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too. Two And A Half Men will be renewed, unless something freakish happens and Ashton Kutcher's salary demands aren't met.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

If the AMC syndication deal is lucrative enough, which it supposedly is, I imagine Miami will survive another year (and it keeps CBS from having to sacrifice another show to the death slot for that year, which is a backhanded bonus). That said, since they cut the episode count for S10 just so they could launch a late midseason show that hasn’t exactly taken off, I’m not going to try to figure out what this all means for the episode count for a possible S11…

  • Cath

Should keep “Miami”. It’s the only network show my son (who is in demo) watches. It did look like a definite finale for their last show though.

  • Mumbo

Based on no evidence at all I’m guessing New York goes, because just from looking around, I see more syndicated Miami on the air than New York, so I figure it has more value.

I think Miami will get one last season and then kick the bucket after that.

Once again, another Friday night win for CSI:NY, just as it has been all season long. Why in the world are we even talking about the possibility of canceling this strong performing show?

    From NUMB3RS episode 2.03 “Obsession” –
Megan: Are we working on the case or are we trying to win a Nobel Prize?
Larry: There is no Nobel Prize for mathematics.
    Megan: Really? You’re kidding.
Larry: They say that Alfred Nobel’s mistress had an affair with a very famous mathematician, so naturally Nobel wouldn’t wanna share his prize with his rival.
Megan: So all you math guys are aced out ‘cos one of you was good in bed.
[Charlie and Don shrug in embarrassment]

CSI Miami is far more better than any other csi show on tv i hope they never cancel it. Plus they have the prettiest women, cast and extras!!!!

  • Kim

I do not understand why the gifted man was taken off the air. The Gifted Man was such a great show just like Unforgettable. Will the Gifted man come back at some point. I think it is a big mistake taking this show off the air. It was a very interesting show.

  • brian

CSI Miami gets one more season, but Mr. Sunglasses moves to Friday nights in a national Keep One CSI on Friday Nights rule. They try a new show between Amazing Race and The Good Wife.

    quote from NCIS [1.9]:
Tony: Gibbs’ll get in. He’s got clearance that’ll let him see the dead aliens buried in Area 51.
Kate: Because he probably killed them.

  • Kathleen

I would like to see CSI:New York go because Csi:New York doesn”t have the kind of following around the world like CSI: Miami does.

  • Ultima

Once again, another Friday night win for CSI:NY, just as it has been all season long. Why in the world are we even talking about the possibility of canceling this strong performing show?

Because CBS wants to premiere new shows and because CSI NY performs poorly in relation to the shows it has to compete with for a timeslot.

  • Ultima

I do not understand why the gifted man was taken off the air.

Lack of viewers – A Gifted Man was the lowest rated scripted show on CBS.

Will the Gifted man come back at some point.

  • Jimmy Two Shoes

NYC-22 is the worst show I’ve ever seen! Pretty sad when the most exciting part of a show is watching two characters unclog a toilet.

  • Scott E. Lee

I stopped watching CSI:M about 3 years ago. Never watched NY. Cancel them both. And NCIS:LA while they’re at it. Give me Law & Order reruns over any of these three. Heck, give me Gilligan’s Island reruns even.

  • Fen

What I hope and what I think are two different things.

I hope: Sunglasses. It’s being going downhill for several seasons. The storylines are… well crap. The acting mostly wooden. I guess, when you love a show you keep watching it, in the blind hope it will improve. I loved WAT but the last couple of seasons…

I think: CSI NY. Sunglasses earns CBS many more shiny coins than NY.

However… sunglasses finale was way before the May sweeps. The finale felt like a series finale (NB obviously haven’t seen NY finale and last season NY, felt like a series finale).

    Thanks. I appreciate it.

I just watched the episode (thinking wathcing would be funnier than just reading the quote) but I didn’t find the scence funny — didn’t get why they called Max “Madeleine Stowe”.

Thanks again for looking up the quote for me. By the way, have you started wathcing Revenge?

  • psychic

    CSI: Sunglasses gets renewed.
CSI: Boring and Dreary gets cancelled.

  • Rebecca

Luckily the quote was on the Wikiquotes page so I didn’t have to actually watch the episode, lol. (I don’t watch 2BG. Tried a few episodes in the beginning and it’s just not a good comedy for me. I wanted it to be better, since I like the actress who plays Max.) I had run out of CBS quotes to use in the game posts, so I just happened to find that one while browsing through a few shows’ quotes (it’s one of the few “clean” quotes from 2BG, too). And yeah, I have seen the first few episodes of Revenge now online but I won’t have time to see more of it until maybe mid May. Maybe earlier, but I have a lot of shows I watch regularly so they come first in viewing priority.

Csi Miami is who i vote for. i enjoy watching this amazing show. This is CBS best crime drama ever. Please let Csi Miami come back for another season. The cast are so outstanding. David Caruso makes a awesome Horaito Caine. I will be sad if Csi Miami is gone. Long live Csi MIAMI.
