Bored with the recycling of topics in the CBS renew/cancel posts? Me too. Blame Les Moonves for renewing all those shows early!

To make room for new dramas in next Fall's schedule, CBS will cancel at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami), and maybe both. The conventional wisdom is that if its only one NY goes and Miami stays, but I don't think there's enough behind that conventional wisdom to trust it.

Those imagining that CBS will keep them both with some sort of timeslot share or Saturday timeslot have very vivid imaginations.

What do you think?

More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too. Two And A Half Men will be renewed, unless something freakish happens and Ashton Kutcher's salary demands aren't met.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I agree with @Carmen. I hope it is CSI: NY that makes the cut but it is more likely CSI: Miami that does.

  • RG-X

I think both will get one more season – CSI NY is ending with a cliff hanger – I don’t think they would to that to the 11 million over 50 under 18 dedicated viewers –

NY will get 13 more episodes & Miami possibly a full season.

  • Amy

I want NY to stay and Miami to go, I cant stand Sunglasses. I will keep my fingers crossed that they keep NY though :)

  • Brad

I say that the fate of CSI: Miami is sealed. Think about this for a minute. Friday nights are tough to program. The ratings for shows bleed out on Fridays. Look at Undercover Boss. It had over a 3.0 in the demo on Sundays and has since plummeted to a 1.8. Also, the 11 million viewers has shrank to around 8.5 million. CSI: NY, Undercover Boss, & Blue Bloods all rank about the same in the demo so why would CBS cancel a series that performs about the same as the rest of it’s Friday night block? Also, Sundays are much easier to program. CSI: Miami has about a 2.0 in the demo meaning it is easier for shows to pull more ratings on Sundays then Fridays. I personally think NY will live on for atleast ONE more season and CSI: Miami will be marked as a case closed and be put to rest.

A few things about the ‘CSI’ shows:

I thought the original was boring because William Peterson’s character was boring.

“CSI:NY” will likely be cancelled. I like Gary Sinese and I love what he’s doing for the Wounded Warriors group. However, “NY” NEVER looked like a true New York cop show. Since the early years of TV, most of the one-hour drama and a lot of sitcoms were filmed in Los Angeles and the actors would fly to NY a few times a year to do exterior shots. “CSI:NY” just doesn’t have that “NY feel.”

I watched “CSI:Miami” for years. No one could argue against the show’s cinematography. It is perhaps THE most colorful show on television. It’s Miami scenes are spectacular. Before the final episode was (hardly) shown, I had episodes going back to December of “Miami” that were always pushed to the back so that I could use the limited TV time that I have to watch something better.

David Caruso is an actor. While he may have had some leeway into his character’s development, I’m sure a lot of what he’s being criticized for is scripted. I’d always get a kick with his one-liners just before we hear Roger Daltry scream “YEAHH” from The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” They’ve mixed up that intro somewhat so the scream doesn’t always follow Caruso’s punchline.

I would say that “Miami” is the best of the three. Watching some hot ladies such as Emily Proctor and the (beautiful) Eva LaRue is a nice way to spend an evening. Never cared for Jonathan Togo’s character.

But, that New York feel missing in “CSI:NY” is very tangible. “NYPD Blue” was the best hour-long crime drama set in The Big Apple, but you FELT like that you were in New York. But, the show’s lead actor during most of the series, the great Dennis Franz, could sound more like a Chicagoen(sp?).

All of the “Law & Order” shows were actually filmed in New York, but the remaining show “Special Victims” was filmed in NJ just over the Hudson River. I wish that the original L&O, and my favorite, “Criminal Intent” with Vincent D’Onofrio, were back. The show was too good for its eventual home, USA Network.

Miami has several factors going for it that NY doesn’t – but I could see MIAMI get a pick-up and NY get a mid-season birth.

I voted for both getting cancelled, but now I’m starting to rethink that. They could do what they did last year and move CSI: miami to midseason, or Saturdays (or both).
I’m chiming in, so here’s my schedule:

    New drama

    New comedy

    New drama

    new comedy
ROE (13 ep. final season)/new drama

    The Mentalist
    Blue Bloods

Survivor (repeat)/ CSI: Miami (final season, and if there are no spots)
new drama (repeat) or a burn-off
    48 hrs mystery

    2 new dramas
    2 new comedies
    1 midseason comedy

    Final season:

  • Nick

^What they did last year with Undercover Boss, that is.

quote from The Mentalist [season one, unsure of which episode]:
Lisbon: Seems like this whole thing has changed your mind about vengeance.
    Jane: Has it?
Lisbon: “Revenge is for fools and madmen”?
Jane: Yeah, that was rather good, I thought. Total nonsense, but quite good nonetheless.

Keep CSI NY!!! One of my Friday night favs on CBS!!! Love Gary Sinese and the rest of the cast!!!

  • Dean_W

Last Year everyone was saying “The CSIs offsprings are both dead” and they were both Renewed.
This Season I’m still thinking they’ll get one more Season.
‘CSI: NY’ will end on a cliffanger (OK CBS canceled ‘Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior’ but it was because it was a new low rated Show). Sela Ward’s character (Jo Danville) is a young character who can be more developed by the Writters. Plus, the Show’s Ratings are not so bad for their Friday Timeslot (The Show is always #1 with a 1.7 on Adults 18-49 and 10.5 million Viewers each Week).
‘CSI: Miami’ will also get Renewed bacause the Show can’t end like this (The Fans want to know how Calleigh will face is new “Adoptive Mother Statut” and its consequences on her Job as a CSI). Plus with ‘NYC 22′ certain cancelation CBS needs a Show for its Sunday Timeslot.
The Shows certain to be canceled are ‘Unforgettable’, ‘NYC 22′, ‘A Gifted Man’ plus maybe ‘Rob’ and ‘Rules of Engagement’ will get a Final Season order for the mid-season.

Just know rightly that both CSI miami & NY will get the chop. Even tho it should be that silly CSI. Dont see the reason behind it when these two are by far the best. Not right the way its been done either didnt give us any notice or a finale just two silly endings from last season. Just because you’ve hired Ted Danson for CSI what makes you think that he will be any good because im one of people along with who aren’t watching. Also know loads of people who watch the other two before CSI

  • cj

Sunday slot for either miami or ny is just a no no in my book. Not many shows i like on tv and there is nothing i like better than sitting relaxing on a saturday night and watching ny/miami. Bring back the week night slot. I can remember watching them on a tuesday night along with other nights. Sunday nights would just kill either of the two shows.
come on get with it bosses the public doesnt want them getting cancelled.

  • Gabriele

Why don´t cancel some of those stupid sitcoms nobody wants to watch??? Just too much crap on TV now this days and we actually have to pay for not even watching. At least CSI New York and CSI Miami keep us entertaint!!! Don´t kill this shows!!

  • Joanne

I hate CSI Miami. CSI NY is so much better in every way. I now enjoy Friday television with CSI NY and Blue Bloods. They revived Friday night television.

Easy, keep Horatio, and put H back as the primary focus.

Horatio: ‘Eric, give me a minute.’

    Eric: Sure H.

Horatio’s blue eyes, pools of sadness, forlorn face etched in stone. Why, why Dear Lord ! Now, falling to his knees, left hand crossed over knee, right hand resting, grasping the shades. Shades Of Justice !

    ” Sarah, I’m So Sorry !”

  • ShadowNglasS

Give Us and The Red Head another Season !

    From The Grave
    Final Heartbreaking Scene

Horatio:Combat stance, cold blue steel aimed at Diablo “Drop the Knife” Diablo menacing with the blade.

Horatio again: “Don’t come any closer. Drop the knife.” Diablo lunging with the blade blade. Horatio fires one shot, center mass. Diablo lying motionless, his soul no longer of this earth.

Our H-ero on his knees, placing his fingers in the blood. His mind pleading, “Why don’t they ever listen ?”

Maybe, just maybe, the act will cleanse his mind and soul. With emotions racing out of control, finally, a church.

Can our H-ero find the will and strength to pull him self together, one foot, then the other. At last, Redemption, Salvation.

Oh Lord, please bless him, soothe his aching heart, try to understand him. Please help this giant of a Man wash the blood away.

Take him in your sweet loving arms. Hold him, mend his breaking heart, and heal his worried mind and soul.
