Bored with the recycling of topics in the CBS renew/cancel posts? Me too. Blame Les Moonves for renewing all those shows early!

To make room for new dramas in next Fall's schedule, CBS will cancel at least one of the CSI offspring (NY or Miami), and maybe both. The conventional wisdom is that if its only one NY goes and Miami stays, but I don't think there's enough behind that conventional wisdom to trust it.

Those imagining that CBS will keep them both with some sort of timeslot share or Saturday timeslot have very vivid imaginations.

What do you think?

More sitcom time could save Rules of Engagement and/or Rob, but without it, they're both likely gone too. Two and a Half Men will be renewed, unless something freakish happens and Ashton Kutcher's salary demands aren't met.

The Renew / Cancel Index above includes results beginning January 2, 2012. How did CBS' shows stack up based on their Fall results? Click here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @Nadine
    I think so too…but it’s just because I can’t stand Caruso with the sunglasses and the
    hands-on-hip vamping. I just never really say anything because I don’t watch any of the CSIs anyway (so I shouldn’t judge), but if I were to watch I’d go for the one with Sinise because I like him as an actor.

    @tvfreak
    Yeah, I had to….call it my fake wrath. ;-) My HIMYM is still in the game, so I’ll keep giving points to it.

  • Ralph Hahn

    Re: CBS’s pilot “Ralph Lamb.”

    Would it kill them just to replace 3 letters in the last name?

    I want it named after me so that my former friends, ex-wives and lovers could see my name in TV Guide. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

  • pickles

    I would keep CSI Miami. David Caruso is not my favorite but the rest of the cast are great. Cut Caruso salary and cut his role.

  • amber

    I love all of the csi’s and I have every episode of las vegas and then I startd on the seasons for miami and new york and I am beyond hooked on new york.it shows more then just the crime scene and them investigating and catching the perp..new york actually shows the characters in their personal lives outside of their job.it seems more real.I am so sick of csb and abc cancelling very good shows and keeping stupid shows on their.if any of the csi’s gets cancelled I will completely stop watching cbs as well as a lot of other viewers not just in y town.their is many other pols and post of upset csi fan that will be very disappointed. And cbs will lose a ton of loyal viewers

  • Ralph Hahn

    I like David Caruso in the one season he did in “NYPD Blue.”

    Yeah, I read some stories where he was exactly a darling to work with, including a tale of throwing a garbage can that hit Dennis Franz. After a failed movie career, I had heard that he changed his colors and found some humility after he was cast for “CSI:Miami.”

    I stopped watching it early this season because the blood and gore percentage increased dramatically as it did a few years ago when I ceased viewing “Criminal Minds.”

    However, I don’t think this series is coming back. Among the reasons that don’t concern ratings is the fact that the series’ season/series finale was aired after 11pm following the usual CBS f-ing sports runoff. GOLF! Someone posted that younger viewers are into golf. What??!!!

    My guess is that some people had their parents and grandparents over the house visiting and that’s how the numbers were ‘that good’.

    Don’t your older relatives, particularly men, watch a lot of golf? Whether it’s in their home while you’re visiting or commandeering YOUR TV when they’re you’re guests.

    Back to CBS. With a lot of folks like me who set the DVR to record between 10:00-11:00pm that night, someone made the dopey decision to run a rerun of another show in “Miami’s” 10pm timeslot. To further muck things up, they repeated the season ender on Saturday night after a RERUN of another show, with little to no publicity that the show would be broadcast again (IN prime-time this time).

    So, CBS gave ‘Miami’ fans The Finger…twice… So, what do YOU think the chances would be for a renewal?

  • Nick

    THE MENTALIST – 8 (-3)
    PERSON OF INTEREST – 43 (+3)
    HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – 42

  • Ralph Hahn

    @pickles: Do you mean that not only should CBS get rid of David Caruso from “CSI:Miami,” you would want the network to ‘cut his pay’ as well?

    Gee, if we applied your logic to every man and women who lose their jobs, they would still receive a paycheck, but at a reduced rate. Then, they would have less need for unemployment insurance, food stamps and welfare!

    You’re a genius! ;-)

    It’s not gung-ho to consider moving The Mentalist to Friday, but rather reality. Common wisdom is that CBS will expand the Thursday sitcom block, with POI likely moving to 10pm. That leaves The Mentalist out of a timeslot, and few other options. There will be one hour open on Tuesday, and perhaps one on Sunday, so almost by default, The Mentalist goes to Friday or Sunday. If CSI Miami is renewed, that leaves out the Sunday timeslot.

    How rich is this AMC syndication deal for Miami, anyway? If CBS can swing it, I bet they would even consider riding out another season of Miami on Saturdays. As it is, they are really tightly squeezed for new drama hours.

  • WooTV!

    THE MENTALIST – 5
    PERSON OF INTEREST – 52 (+3)
    HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – 36 (-3)

  • Rebecca

    @WooTV!
    If you are new to the game or to the threads here, @tvfreak will have to ask you a trivia question or something to let you play the elimination game. Stand by.

  • tvfreak

    @Rebecca: I already talked to WooTV and 5thSeasonFringe on the ABC thread. So their votes are, indeed, invalid for now until they swear not to cheat and answer ABC trivia questions.

    New numbers!

    THE MENTALIST – 5
    PERSON OF INTEREST – 46
    HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER – 42

  • Rebecca

    @tvfreak
    Okey dokey.

  • bluejays

    @Hardline-Pro. Oh contraire my friend. I’ve seen every season of NYPD Blue. One of my favorite shows ever. But I preferred it after caruso left. I didn’t say he was a bad actor anyways.

    Did you even read my post? I said I didn’t like it when people state actors are ‘bad’ as its a question of style and whether you like it or not. I don’t like his style, that’s not me saying he’s a bad actor.

  • Zac

    Miami is a lot better then NY therefore it will not be cancelled NY is in my opinion boring not the same as the over two bye bye CSI NY

  • Kelly

    Hope they cancel Miami. Realistically, NY will probably go – although last season honestly would have been a better series finale than what I hear they have for this year.

    The one plus I can see to keeping NY is that it does well paired with Blue Bloods, and Miami wouldn’t fit that “tone.”

    The best thing may be a 13 episode half-season for both, perhaps sharing the Friday timeslot. That may give them an idea of how well Miami would do in the slot, let them get the season 11 syndication deal, and wrap with the potential of extending NY if Miami royally flops in that time slot.

  • psychic

    Who would dare cancel Horatio?
    Mac is dead.

  • amber

    Csi new york is the best one out of all of the sci’s..las vegas used 2 be good but that’s the 1 that needs 2 b cancelled..it went down hill after grissom left and they killed off warrick and now brass,catherine,and ray is gone so they should cancel that show..keep miami and new york on aire..
