4/25 Update: Our polled readers were *way* too optimistic. The premiere of The L.A. Complex drew just a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating. The full Tuesday ratings will be posted here ASAP.

I wrote a while ago that Cheap Canadian Dramas Were The New Black for summer, and the CW's addition to that latest trend, The L.A. Complex, premieres tonight. It's not really a summer drama, since  only one of its six episodes (I believe) will air during the broadcast primetime summer, but it's Canadian, and almost certainly very "pocketbook friendly". Its future on the CW is tied to its US ratings, but were the show to be canceled by the CW, it could very easily continue airing up north.

How will it do in the all important adults 18-49 ratings?

Here are some data points for your handicapping assistance.

  • Since January, Ringer averaged a 0.47 adults 18-49 rating with new episodes in the same timeslot, but they did not all follow a new 90210.
  • Last week's season (likely series) finale of Ringer drew a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating.

this show is amazing have seen only a couple of scenes and omg can not watch it tonight cause of the Voice have to watch tomorrow at 7pm

The last time The CW bought a Canadian series (18 to Life), they did nothing to promote it, save for one press release. It promptly bombed and got pulled after 3 weeks. This time around, The CW has been able to get a good deal of press for the L. A. Complex and done a ton of online and on air promotion. But if nobody’s watching, what good is on air promotion? Also, the pilot has been available on Hulu for the past week.

The show scored a 77/100 on Metacritic which means “Generally favorable reviews” as opposed to the Melrose Place reboot that scored 57/100. (I actually haven’t seen a single negative review yet for the L.A. Complex.)

So having said all that, I’ll go with 0.4 A18-49. (But I hope it does better.)

  • Sid

    0.6-0.7 with 1.4-1.8 million viewers.

A show premiering this late during the Season(especially on CW) won’t be a hit.

The show is a good show though. Much better than GOSSIP GIRL, Hart of Dixie and RINGER and some might even say 9O21O.

  • Max

I clicked the 0.4-0.5 option but I am leaning towards that 0.4

    – same slot as Ringer.
    – similar premise to Melrose 2.0 (also same slot)
    – not really compatible with 90210
    – airing against hot competition on three other networks

But I will watch and enjoy for however long it lasts.

  • SmG

    0.6 (At best)

    0.5 (Likely)

    0.4 (At worst)

I hope it does well, ive already seen all the episodes, and a really well done show. much better than GG and 90210.

  • Alex

I’m optimistically guessing a 0.6. I saw the first couple of episodes online, and it’s actually way better than anything The CW has come up with themselves in recent years.
    Hope it does well!

    Eviction notice coming.

  • ToXiX

Finally CW broadcasts something worth watching.

  • Baqinardo

Vs DWTS and The Voice result shows?
Not to mention New Girl too.
    All fight for women demo.
It’s gonna be hard. It’d be so lucky if it can match Ringer #s

    “not really compatible with 90210″

How has a show set in Los Angeles based around young adults trying to do something with their lives and is called ‘The LA Complex’, got nothing to do with 90210?

  • Robsten_Fan

    4-5 million viewers i hope.

  • CrimTV

    *Not compatible with 90210

  • RyanCanada

CrimTV seems to be a hater.

  • Rachel

People who are saying this show is “great” are exaggerating! It’s addictive at best and better than most cw shows but that’s about it. Everyone is so used to watching crap they think this show is gold. We really need the WB back.

  • CrimTV

How am I a hater? I like 90210, and quite like the look of The LA Complex, i’m simply saying that 90210 and The LA Complex ARE compatible with each other as someone else said they weren’t

  • KevinSW

I’m Hoping for the better. 0.5 at least. I saw all 6 episodes already and it’s by far the most exciting show CW might have now in that genre. So really hoping for a solid performance.

  • Michael

With all the promotion and advertisement the show has received, I expect a 0.8 for the premiere, which is reasonable. However, we’re talking about the CW here, so 0.6 is my final prediction.

  • rob60990

.7 at best, which is what 90210 will probably do.

  • Adrian

    I’m guessing a 0.5 at best.

The CW, the land of the 0.5!!!
