FOX BOOKS “Fringe” FOR A FIFTH AND FINAL CHAPTER

13 Episodes Ordered for 2012-2013 Season

Update: Fringe season 5 trailer now posted.

FOX has picked up Fringe for a fifth and final 13-episode season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve,” said Reilly “The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter.”

FRINGE co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams added, “We are thrilled and beyond grateful that FOX – and our fans – have made the impossible possible: FRINGE will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way. All of us at Bad Robot are forever indebted to our viewers and the amazingly supportive FOX network for allowing the adventures of Fringe Division to not only continue, but to resolve in a way that perfectly fits the show.”

“This pickup means the world (both of them) to us, because we love sharing these stories with our enthusiastic fans,” added FRINGE showrunners and executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman. “On behalf of the cast and crew, we applaud our fans and FOX for allowing us to imagine the impossibilities together for so long. Season Five is going to be a conclusive thrill ride for all of us.”

FRINGE’s compelling fourth season concludes with three all-new FRINGE Friday episodes in a row, counting down to the two-part season finale on Friday, May 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Friday, May 11 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). In “Worlds Apart,” airing Friday, April 27 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), team members on both sides, including Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter (Joshua Jackson), continue to fight for a common cause, and there are shocking developments tied to the Cortexiphan children.

Created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, FRINGE is produced by Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Jeff Pinkner, J.H. Wyman and Joe Chappelle serve as executive producers, while Kurtzman, Orci and Akiva Goldsman are consulting producers. Additionally, Pinkner and Wyman serve as the series’ showrunners. “Like” FRINGE on Facebook at www.facebook.com/fringe. Follow the series on Twitter @fringeonfox and join the conversation at #Fringe.

Finally a show being renewed for its qulaity rather than its rating…

  • Tommy M.

@ MJ, why move it from “the death slot?” It’s already announce that it will be the final season, and I doubt FOX wants to pull low 1s Sunday – Thursday.

  • Ultima

    @MJ
lol, this almost makes up for Firefly…

Nothing will every make up for that!

now if only FOX move Fringe away from the death slot.

There’s absolutely no chance Fringe will not be on Fridays next season. One, it’s already a dead show with terrible ratings; two, there’s simply no room on the schedule.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA WHAT DID I SAID?

No, but I’m sure no amount of logic can penetrate your delusion.

BOO YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN YOUR FACE, RICHARD STEVEN HACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU REALLY ARE A HACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep telling yourself that, the fact of the matter is WB was willing to give the show away very cheap in order to have more episodes for syndication.

    Great news, no 4400-series-ending.
Maybe they’re hoping for a last surge in ratings, as this will be the first season (after maybe the first season), in which the future of the series is certain…

By the way, I don’t understand all those people rooting for its cancellation. Watch something else, or get a life (please).

Since I mentioned in another post on Fringe that I watched only one episode, I hoped that for the sake of fans, this show would be renewed. But since this show has been renewed for a final season (knew this would happen too) just like Chuck when it too was renewed, I will watch this final season with the rest of the nation…of fans who still watch it.

    WOOHOO!

  • DW

every showrunner that has had a show on fox and got the ax with higher ratings and a few episodes just went “wait what”?. :)

  • Silas

Clearly Fox have decided that a 13episode season of Fringe made more economic sense than more reality or throwing one of their existing shows (i.e. Bones which I have long insisted is not destined for Friday) or a new show into a Friday death slot.

  • Dennis

    Yeahhhh!!!! Fringe go!

  • Tony ^_^

    Wow. This is shocking. *Sarcasm*

I kept hearing rumors but glad that FOX finally made the official announcement. I missed last week’s episode (the only episode I’ve ever missed! :o) so I’ll have to watch it online since that episode gives a hint of what Season 5 will be about. Lol…

But glad that us Fringe fans are getting closure to the show! ^_^ :D

  • Jay S.

Fringe makes history! The lowest-rated network major network drama ever to be renewed!

  • tvfreak

Hello happy day! Looks like Fringe is the new Chuck! Now I know I can start watching the show and eventually end with closure! Yes!!!!

But now I desperately need Alcatraz to get renewed also. Can’t have Fringecatraz Fridays without Alcatraz!!!!!!!!!

More likely WB was willing to take a big loss in order to get FOX to buy 13 more episodes. I wouldn’t be surprised if the licensing fee FOX is paying is in line with the Gordon Ramsey shows. But we’ll probably never know what the licensing fee is.
