Interesting that ‘Hannity’ at 12am had the highest A18-49 rating of all cable news programs, and that would have been something like 345K A18-49 viewers – more young viewers than many programs (e.g. ‘Outfront’) on the other channels had in total viewers. The 12am edition of ‘Hannity’ got 425K A25-54 viewers, higher than any program outside FNC. It also beat the 9pm edition of ‘Hannity’.

The pitched political battle over student loans isn’t going away. On Friday, the White House threatened to veto a bill to keep interest rates on a popular kind of loan from doubling come July 1 because the Republican-crafted legislation pays for it by tapping a special fund in President Barack Obama’s landmark health care law.

Obama’s budget, unveiled earlier this year, calls for tapping into the same fund to cover other programs. The Senate’s Democratic majority, which will likely kill the Republican bill, has proposed covering the nearly $6 billion tab for the student loan proposal by raising taxes on wealthy Americans.

*Obama, Donors Block Relief for Families of Beirut Bombing Victims

A high-powered Wall St. CEO and early, influential Obama supporter, Donald F. Donahue of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), may be using his significant clout on behalf of the Obama administration and a questionable Iranian-linked strategic partner to stand in the way of American military families trying to recover billions of dollars to which they are legally entitled after being victimized by the infamous 1983 Iranian-sponsored bombing of a U.S. Marine Corp barracks in Beirut.

Since the 1983 bombing, there have been numerous court rulings siding with those victimized by state-sponsored terrorism, allowing them to sue foreign governments for damages. The estates of the Marines killed in Beirut were recently awarded $2.16 billion in damages by a Federal judge. Lawyers have already attached nearly two billion dollars of Iran’s money, which sits frozen at Citibank in New York.

The key question is, will that money simply flow back to Iran, will it do that as part of an Obama foreign policy initiative, or will it be handed over to the families who have sued and won a right to it being paid out as damages for the terrorism in 1983.

Another new twist: There is considerable confusion about what the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (or ACA) of 2010 did with respect to Medicare Advantage. As part of a broad set of reforms aimed to control the cost of Medicare, the ACA eliminated subsidies which the federal government first used to establish the Medicare Advantage program. As of 2008, the federal government spent 12 percent more on Medicare Advantage than it did for comparable care under traditional Medicare. These subsidies (which added an additional $14 billion to the Medicare program last year alone) will gradually be reduced until payments to Medicare Advantage are in line with the cost of traditional Medicare.

Obama talks bin Laden in rare sit room interview

Brian Williams of NBC News held a rare interview with President Barack Obama about the killing of Osama bin Laden in the White House Situation Room yesterday.

The interview, which will air on Rock Center with Brian Williams on May 2, comes at the one-year anniversary of bin Laden’s killing, an event the Obama campaign is touting in a new ad that goes after Mitt Romney.

“One year ago, they brought down Bin Laden. Now, for the first time, the main players are talking — only to Brian Williams,” a 15-second promo of the interview, which aired this morning on the Today show, said. “Exclusive access inside the situation room. Rock Center, Wednesday, 9/8 Central on NBC.”

White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest resisted questions regarding rumors of the interview this morning, as well as the suggestion that Obama was politicizing Bin Laden’s killing by holding an interview in the Situation Room.

“What I can tell you is that the President has conducted a couple of interviews over the course of the last year about the successful mission against Osama bin Laden,” Earnest said during a press gaggle on the way to an event in Georgia. “What the President did yesterday and what he has done many times before over the course of the last year is talk about that mission and talk about the success of that mission.”

White House officials did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Of note: In a 2011 interview with Wolf Blizter, host of CNN’s Situation Room, Obama said Blitzer could come to the White House situation room, but couldn’t bring cameras.

“I hope you’ll be coming and joining me in my Situation Room,” Blitzer said. “And if you invite me to yours, I will be happy to come to yours as well.”

“Thank you, Wolf. You can visit any time,” the President said. “Just you can’t bring cameras. That’s the only difference.”

“I will come by myself,” Blitzer replied.

    Good morning all,

Ok, so Obama took out Bin Laden. There’s no denying this took place on his watch but to raise the open ended question if Romney would have done the same is ridiculous. When Obama got elected he had no foreign policy experience, in fact, maybe with the exception of Dwight Eisenhower, no newly elected President has foreign policy experience.

Surely, people would have seen it coming that Obama would tout killing Bin Laden was a huge feather in his hat, no matter what he said about no spiking the football.

It cant be said much better than this

McCain Goes Nuclear: “Shame On Barack Obama”

Republicans amp up attacks on Obama for campaigning on Bin Laden’s slaying. “Shamelessly turning the one decision he got right into a pathetic political act of self-congratulation,” says McCain.

Here’s the Arizona Senator’s full statement:

“Shame on Barack Obama for diminishing the memory of September 11th and the killing of Osama bin Laden by turning it into a cheap political attack ad. This is the same President who once criticized Hillary Clinton for invoking bin Laden ‘to score political points.’

“This is the same President who said, after bin Laden was dead, that we shouldn’t ‘spike the ball’ after the touchdown. And now Barack Obama is not only trying to score political points by invoking Osama bin Laden, he is doing a shameless end-zone dance to help himself get reelected.

“No one disputes that the President deserves credit for ordering the raid, but to politicize it in this way is the height of hypocrisy.

“The Obama campaign asks whether Mitt Romney would have made that decision. Of course they want to focus on this one tactical decision because the other decisions this President has made have harmed our national security.

“He turned his back on the people of Iran when they rose up to end their tyrannical, terrorist-supporting, Holocaust-denying government, giving them no assistance as they were crushed in the streets.

“He has repeatedly thrown our ally Israel under the bus and jeopardized our shared security interests.

“He tried to bring Khaled Sheikh Muhammed, the mastermind of 9/11, and other Al-Qaeda terrorists into the middle of New York City to stand trial in a civilian court.

“He disregarded the advice of his military commanders and pulled all of our troops out of Iraq, and Al-Qaeda is making a comeback there as a result.

“He disregarded the advice of his military commanders again by telling our enemies that we are leaving Afghanistan and then putting our mission and our troops at risk by short-changing our commanders on the ground.

“He watches passively while the Assad regime in Syria, Iran’s closest ally, kills thousands of its own people in an unfair fight, and his response to this mass atrocity is to create an ‘Atrocities Prevention Board.’

“With a record like that on national security, it is no wonder why President Obama is shamelessly turning the one decision he got right into a pathetic political act of self-congratulation.”

When you start thinking about it, Wolf Blitzer, John King, Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan spend 7 hr preparing for a ONE hr show which contains at best 40 minutes of news & BS the rest is commercials.
You would think that they could put together something a lot better then they produce for the money they are spending.

Milwaukee Red Cross Told to Prepare For Chicago Evacuation During NATO Summit

    CBS Local (video available)

The Milwaukee Red Cross was told to prepare for a possible evacuation during this summit.

CBS 2 News has obtained a copy of a Red Cross e-mail sent to volunteers in the Milwaukee area.

It said the NATO summit “may create unrest or another national security incident. The American Red Cross in southeastern Wisconsin has been asked to place a number of shelters on standby in the event of evacuation of Chicago.”

According to a chapter spokesperson, the evacuation plan is not theirs alone.

“Our direction has come from the City of Chicago and the Secret Service,” she said.

I’m sure it is best to be prepared for anything, but, this seems a little over the top.

Voter ID law blocked for Scott Walker recall

Wisconsin’s new voter ID law won’t apply to the recall election against Gov. Scott Walker, according to two appeals court rulings this week.

An opinion released Thursday said there was “no realistic possibility” that the legal wrangling over the controversial law would be decided before the June 5 election, reports the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.

Although Walker and Republican legislators passed a law requiring photo identification at the voting booths, Dane County Circuit Judge David Flanagan temporarily blocked the law from taking effect while the court considered legal challenges from the NAACP and the immigrant rights group Voces de la Frontera.

A week later, another judge blocked the law after a separate challenge by the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, saying it violated the state constitution.

Flanagan is only expected to rule after final briefs are filed in the case in mid-June, after the May 8 primary and June 5 general recall elections, reports the Journal Sentinel.

Proponents of voter identification laws — an issue being debated in state legislatures across the country — argue that they’re necessary to prevent fraud at the ballot box. Opponents contend that the laws create unnecessary barriers to voting, especially for low-income voters and students.
