You can see TV ratings from other recent Overnight ratings reports here.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

You know what if County ended up airing behind Harry’s Law then they might actually have their first new hit drama in years. The viewership will be there and it can grow its own demos from there bringing back that nostalgia that people want from ER.

    @ H50

    No, I’m not.

As a very simple example for you. Just look at last nights rating at 10:00.

if you were an advertiser on TV. Where would you rather be advertising your products,
    1) The Office
    2) Scandel
    3) The Mentalist

  • H5O Fan

@Carmen, whatever, I double dare you to do your post at around noon.

  • Carmen

    @ H50

Also, CBS is the network that gets hurt by the system in place.

But often, the advertisers on that network can pay less per 30 second commercial and obtain more total sales revenue.

But if you don’t understand the principle, then I can’t help you here. It would take a white paper to explain it to you fully if you don’t grasp the concept.

  • H5O Fan

@Carmen, let me guess new college grad, whatever. I am going to go with what I know, my husband and I in sales for over 25 years. Have a good day………

It’s funny how Terra Nova was cancelled and it’s series low was a 2.1. And Alcatraz, Touch, and Fringe aren’t cancelled and one it renewed.

I don’t know for Touch, and Fringe but read report for FOX alkatraz and tera nova in wich tera nova was 5 times expensive show than alkatraz! Even TN wa name one of most expemsive new shows of all time! For drama! I guess if one show is 5 times expensive and ratings must be 5 times better! TN average ratings (WITHOUT THE VOICE) was araound 2.3-2.4 and alkatraz around 2.0! And alkatraz was well until/when came the voice and kill him! Alkatraz after Idol will be interesting but fox didn’t try that! Cause alkatraz is mostly procedural i still think they can in second season to promote it after idol/x factor! If not work will go to friday!

  • Carmen

    @ H50

Then you should understand the concept of “more total prospects, then greater prospects of increased sales”

NBC scheduling the Live 30 Rock against the NFL Draft, last day of NBA regular season and 2 NHL Game 7s? FAIL. They kill their Thursday night lineup doing this, like when they’re the only ones running new eps against the NCAA Tournament.

I think the sports brought down the Big Bang numbers too.

  • Spencer

Why be so mean to Carmen
What did she do to you?
    She seems very nice

  • Petar

Last year CBS dramas with the same decline vs weakest NFL DRAFT! And now POI was on two weeks hiatus and CBS put it exatly this day! Now at least we know with sure or CBS are amateurs and don’t know that the show will be hurt and male watch it a lot or just hate POI!(yes i said it and i am not insane) Wich is strange cause other networks(even FOX) will kill for rookie hit drama right now! Yes they hate that show or hust whant to move it! This is my only explanation why they stay POI unknown show to make mediocre ratings in the fall and when start after new year his uptrend they make it clear that will move the show at 10! And after 6-7 ep in a row with 3s+ rating and 14million+ viewers again down like in the fall!
And even more strange cause before the season CBS know what hit they have:
According to CBS, Person of Interest received the highest test ratings of any drama pilot in 15 years, what one CBS executive called “crazy broad appeal you don’t usually see,” prompting CBS to move CSI, which was broadcast on Thursday for over 10 years, to Wednesday, opening up a slot for Person of Interest.

Why? Cause now they have explanation to move POI! They will say PoI was down again and we will move it to 10! And if next year this new sitcoms failed like how to be gentelman will be nobody fault!

  • Akihironihongo

Is NBC ever going to move Community? It clearly does so much better without the competition of TBBT, and NBC has to notice that!

I did like the show ‘Awake’ but now that the main guy is going to have a grandchild and the mother is his dead sons’ 15 year old ex GF…WTF?! It’s just…ugh…

  • Kim

If you wood look at the ratings again you wood see that The Mentalist came in first place last night at that time spot. Someone wrote it down wrong.

    The Mentalist 2.1 6 11.853
    Scandal 2.1 6 6.981

I think this is a really bad month for new tv shows. It dose not get dark untill real late now. I think a lot of people want to be outside doing other things while it,s still light outside,

  • Richard Steven Hack

Person of Interest being down is unfortunate, given it was probably the best episode yet.

TSC and TVD continue to be quite good, so I can only assume we’re seeing a really bad spring downtown – and of course, it’s the CW, so probably better call it a “CW downturn”.

Somehow I managed to download episode 20 of Nikita last night – I don’t know where it aired – but it was one of their better episodes, showcasing Birkoff. Aaron Stanford was just excellent. Nikita fans better not miss this one. The episode didn’t advance the story arc much, but it was great anyway. I expect the last three episodes of the series to be epic.

Too bad Fox renewed Fringe and CW probably won’t renew Nikita. Nikita is at least as good as Fringe in every way (except for the pathetic CW ratings.)

I’m a big mentalist fan but I have to say last nights episode was probably one of the worst in the shows history. I have no problem with gay people or anything but I really don’t think a mainstream audience wants to watch dudes walking around acting like women or listen to a 5 minute solo at the end by a dude dressed up like that girl from the Wizard of Oz. Wasn’t the only thing wrong with the show, writing was sub par, Jane’s summation with the 3 guys in the line-up seemed really awkward and forced, and there was no actual crime.

  • Jj

Yes, the POI episode was the best of the year. I think the thing that may hurt POI in the demos also is that there is not a romantic counterpart for Reese. 20 to 30 year old guys don’t have a hot girl to look at so they get it from Greys. Plus their girlfriends and wife’s watch Greys and probably force them too also. Guy to girl: “Honey that new show Person of Interest is on tonight, can we watch it?”. Girl to guy: “What? No! A new Greys is on! and if you know what is good for you, you will watch it with me.” They did a study or poll once that questioned this age group and the guys admitted that shows like Greys actually get them in the mood. I am not trying to be snarky and it sounds like crazy stuff, but I think there is a lot of truth to it.
