    As others have said, I don’t think Cas effects ratings one way or the other either. People don’t tune in to watch or not watch Cas. He isn’t that important.

    Cas fans are loud – and fewer than one might think. Sure, lots of casual SPN viewers appreciate and like his character, but to many he isn’t the essential character super!Cas fans make him out to be. He isn’t and will never be a Sam or Dean. The show wouldn’t be able to stand without either Sam or Dean and it stands just fine without Cas.

    p.s. 0.7! Yeah!

    @Freyja

    *shrug* I guess I’m hanging out in the tamest circles because I never heard anything like that. I did hear my fellow Cas fans hoping/wishing/anticipating his return. And regardless, it’s not because of fan whining that Sera keeps bringing him back when all her other storylines fail to catch fire. She did it last season and looks like she’s doing it this season. All this hullabaloo over a secondary character makes my eyeballs hurt I’m rolling my eyes so hard.

    @Tessa

    If I start elaborating the reasons why I hate Castiel and how much I hate him, probably you would start hating him too. No one can top me on that.

    Glad Supernatural went up in finals again. I’m still hoping it will be stable Friday too, although it does have big competition. I know I will be watching Supernatural and waiting on Avengers. Not that it matters since I am not a Nielsen viewer. It would be great if the last three episodes remained in the 0.7 / 0.8 range, making SPN the most steady CW performer from last year’s finale to this year’s if my records are right.

    Wait I gotta bring my another TV Line post:

    I didn’t say most fans hate Castiel. I said, most of the VIEWERS DON’T CARE ABOUT HIM. Like they don’t wait for his return or feel depressed if he is dead on the show.
    I completely accept the fact that, he has hardcore fans. It is because of those ‘loud’ hardcore fans, there is enormous buzz on internet. Do remember not all the viewers attend conventions or not all the viewers of Supernatural are active on internet. Only a minority of the Supernatural fans does these things. Based on Castiel, we can divide fans into three categories:
    1. Castiel Lovers – Those people who has voted for Vampire Diaries during because he is killed show are pure Castiel lovers
    2. Those people who are, Supernatural-centric/Winchester-centric not Castiel-centric. They don’t care if he is dead or alive on the show. They watch the show for brothers, monsters, family love and the show as a whole
    3. Castiel Haters – Best example is myself. Can’t even stand at the sight of that actor. These are usually Winchester-centric.

    IMO, majority of the viewers belong to 2nd category. 1st and 3rd categories are usually the active participants on internet.

    KS, I think you would love this site. Unless, you’re already a member.

    Supernatural went up again. Very enjoyable. In other news, this post is giving me an aneurysm. All this Castiel chatter is insanity. Sorry to be harsh, but if you call yourself a Supernatural fan but pick and choose episodes based on the appearance of a recurring guest actor/character, you need to get a grip.

    @Michael

    I was suggested by many people, but I don’t have time for that. Thanks for the link.

    I care is Castiel lives or dies! I love him on the show, can’t wait to catch up on last week’s episode! I love watching Sam, Dean, and Cas together-legit hated it when they turned his character bad.

  • AC75

    @KS

    Yet you have this for this?

  • AC75

    Time*

  • Networkman

    CSI:NY most likely would do better than The Good Wife on Sunday Night. But now it is facing cancellation. It may be time for The Mentalist to move to Friday to help the night out.

    8pm CSI:Miami
    9pm The Mentalist
    10pm Blue Bloods

  • Tessa

    @KS

    How about I revise your categories:

    1. Hardcore Castiel fans: The ones who supposedly voted against SPN and called for the show’s cancellation due to his absence.

    2. Ordinary fans: Some like Castiel, some don’t. Some are indifferent. All of them support the show regardless of which secondary character is in it. (I’m here)

    3. Cas haters: Who blame the ratings on him and throw temper tantrums every time his name is mentioned in anything related to Supernatural. (You’re here.)

    There. Fixed it for you. ;)

    @AC75

    I have a holiday tomorrow after about 2 months. We don’t have off on Saturdays. I wouldn’t be online during this time usually.
    And, ratings come up at 9pm/10pm in our country every night(Indian local time). All I can spend is an 1-4 hours every night on my computer. Posting on this website is one of the things I do in those 1-3 free hours available to me. Tell me do you really think, I can manage to post on message boards with that limited time?

    @Tessa
    I know right. I won’t have anything to do at all with the fact that a movie that is already breaking records overseas and has been one of if not the most anticipated nerd movie of the summer comes out this week. No no no it has to be Castiel’s fault!

  • AC75

    @Tessa

    Can we change “Ordinary” to “Normal”?

  • Mickey 1.0

    @Tessa
    Scratch that, it’s a shame a good show like SPN is on a Friday while the rest of the CW crap is not.

    TRUER WORDS!! It was like Dawn Ostroff’s parting shot, moving us to Fridays. “Hmmm, how could I screw with Supernatural even after I’m gone…*twirls evil mustache* I know, I will move it to the Friday deadzone prematurely and give my precious Gigi a cushy timeslot even though it has lower ratings.” (In my world, Dawn Ostroff totally has and evil mustache. And she calls GG Gigi and pronouces it with a pretentious and cloying French accent.)

    Won’t stop the skeptics from drawing conclusions and pointing fingers. I can see them sharpening their claws already and saying, “See? People hate Misha/Castiel.” Oh, well. At least not everyone is in denial. And I agree. It’s a shame 2 out of 3 of Misha’s episodes happened on such nights.

    The bigger shame is how fandom is polarizing over this, both sides pushing each other to further extremes. A very good example is this one. As Freyja said, last fall there were some comments like “I’m going to laugh as I watch Supernatural’s ratings go down in flames now Cas is gone.” It’s only a few people, but it then prompts more people on the other side to say “Haha, you were wrong, Cas’s episodes went down instead of up” and it just kinda snowballs. Hopefully we can stay away from that here.

  • Tessa

    @AC75

    Sure. We can eliminate the adjective altogether and just call them fans.

    I disagree with this. Being the fan of a ANY show means enjoying it. If you love Castiel and his absence makes the show unenjoyable, then you should stop watching the episodes that he is not in. If you hate Castiel and his presence makes you miserable, then you should skip those episodes. Shows change, tastes change, I think it is wise to watch what makes you happy. It doesn’t mean you were never a fan of a show, just that you are not a fan in its current incarnation.

    I do resent it when people try to turn others against a show because they don’t like it. Voting against a show in polls because you think another show is better is great. Mounting a campaign to vote against a show just to “show them” is silly, IMHO.

    I do agree that KS is probably right, most of the not Internet fandom viewers probably don’t care a lot of Castiel or Bobby is on the show. They just want a good story.

  • KS

    From now on I would start campaigning for a new and better guest star other than Castiel. We have seen Castiel for 4 years and now he is boring. We want something new. Better guest stars like Frank.
