    @Mickey 1.0

    Yes, I hate the polarization too. And I don’t even get it. Pretty much everyone agrees that Castiel is not the center of the show, he’s not even a major player, yet no other character has so much drama surrounding him than he is. And I posted earlier here something similar to your post: that fan hatred fed the character hatred. The two extreme sides get so riled by each other that the subject gets blown out of proportion. Meanwhile sane fans sit here and shake their heads.

    I hope it at least helps to create some buzz. God knows we need it badly in anticipation of the Avengers’ arrival.

  • Moe

    Yay for Supernatural going up! Woot! I was hoping it would!!! I am worried about “The Avengers” effect but the CW has to know it will factor in with a genre show. Right?

  • karin

    Fringe adjusted down needs the main post??
    Who cares about the pathetic maskedscheduler passive aggressive guy?
    Fringe mystery is a money deal,period..a shame indeed.
    Fox year is dramatic.

    @KS How dare you say that most supernatural fans don’t get involved with the Internet fandom and in the same breath presume to speak for them. Many different people watch Supernatural for many different reasons. To presume to assign a majority to any of those reasons is really against the spirit of fandom. We get it. You don’t like Castiel. We heard you the first five times. But so far the ratings don’t reflect your rantings. As for the people who aren’t included in the ratings, there is absolutely no way to quantify them one way or the other.

    @Percysowner Actually if we are speaking only about the internet fandom, most of them are pro Team Freewill (that is Sam, Dean, Castiel and Bobby). Bobby and Castiel’s absence was much noted among them (again I am speaking only of the internet fandom) with Castiel’s absence being the most polarizing. But you are right, voiting against the show just because you don’t like what they are doing (as opposed to say, just not watching anymore) is incredibly silly. I will say that very few of the fans I have encountered took it that far

    Sorry for the rant. But facts pulled from the ether stick in my craw.

  • KS

    @pandorajinel(formerly Erin):

    That’s just my assumption after being a mute spectator of Supernatural fandom for about 8 months. I don’t have any proof. I have already said, ratings can renew a show or cancel a show. They don’t reflect the quality or fan-ism of fans towards guest stars and story.

  • karin

    Fringe down needs the scoop

  • jeff

    you know how get these numbers??? 1.0/3 3.09

  • Tessa

    That’s just my assumption after being a mute spectator of Supernatural fandom for about 8 months.

    8 months? Wow, that’s sure a long time for a show that’s been on for 7 years. Maybe if you broke your prohibition law and actually visited the IMDB board that’s been suggested to you so often – one of the biggest SPN forums online – you’d see the real picture.

    @pandorajinel: Totally agree. Most of the fans I met were Team Free Will fans. I can count on one hand the fans that hate either of the four members so much they want them dead and gone. And most Castiel fans I talked to vote for Supernatural in every poll.

  • Restless

    Yay Supernatural! But boo, why’d the Castiel fanwank have to start early. :(

    There’s drama every season. What about last year with the whole ‘Supernatural should end because of the five-year plan’ or the Dean fans threatening a boycott because of Sera Gamble’s promotion (because of her supposedly being a Sam girl)? There’s always cray-cray fans, some fraction of a group that will never be satisfied. I have to admit, Supernatural is one of the most self-hating fandoms I’ve ever seen. But since the characters are self-hating, I guess it makes sense hehe.

    And since it’s been brought up, I’ll ask here. About the claim Cas fans encouraged voting for TVD, I never saw that and can’t actually find evidence of it. All I saw was people saying don’t vote if you didn’t like where things were going (but I voted anyway because I liked the way things went before). Obviously wasn’t a large group anyway, but can someone please direct me to where this campaign took place.

    The show wouldn’t be able to stand without either Sam or Dean.
    The only reason this is true is because thankfully the actors have agreed to it. I’ve seen enough shows exit a main character by now to know better. Plus, if you listen to some fans, Dean never has a story and Sam never has character development, which I imagine would make them easily enough replaced :P
    Since I like Cracked, I’ll just post one of their articles about it.

    that fan hatred fed the character hatred.

    I’m sure you’re right. I wasn’t part of the internet fandom for Cas’s first three seasons and I liked him just fine. This year I’ve found it difficult not to let what the extremists say and do taint my enjoyment of the character.

    In other news, I’m still really happy Supernatural was adjusted up! *does a happy appalachian clogging dance*

    (At the Rome con, a fan had gotten her hands on a very old resume of Misha’s, on which under special skills many hilarious things were listed, including “appalachian clogging.” Jensen had much fun with this list of special skills. Misha was a good sport about it being at his expense.)

  • pandorajinel(formerly Erin)

    @Mickey 1.0
    Oh Mickey. I’m liking you more and more. The Apalachian clog dancing story was classic. I’m still waiting for a reason why he is/was an EMT. And the throat singing was epic.

  • Kavyn

    @DougF, thanks. I try my best lol

  • KS

    It was since 8 months, all this Castiel polarization started. Before the announcement of “Misha Collins not a regular on Series”,(I was not active online), I don’t think, there is much discussion about character of Castiel. So these 8 months are more than enough to know the views of fans regarding Castiel.

    I am not trying to create a busy person image of myself, but I honestly don’t have time to come there and post. And I also don’t like discussion of every minute aspect of the show. I feel this is the best place, that suits my daily routine, to discuss about the show with other fans, although (I know this is a ratings website, but come on, comments wouldn’t have run more than 5 pages long, if all the comments were based only on ratings. So, after page 5 we are free to discuss about the content of the show, IMO.)

    This season finale of supernatural being great ** …. Superhappy. XD<3

  • Fiona

    It isn’t a formula – they are 3 separate columns of data. All is explained in a post on this very site. A very simple search will find it. I believe it’s called ratings 101 or something similar.

    Basically the first number represents the number of viewers aged 18-49 (it’s a factor, not a actual number of viewers. I believe each ratings point represents 1.xxm viewers (adjusted annually based on population). The second number is the share of TV watching households watching that particular programme during that time slot. And the final number os the total number of viewers (all ages) in millions.

  • Sandy

    And Love Cas, Bobby, Dean, Sam, Love until Impala kkkkk!! Sooooooo Supernatural this season is great.xD

  • KS

    I am hating the actors of Supernatural, including J and J, more and more especially after coming to know what goes on at the conventions. I unliked the Supernatural fan pages on my facebook and unfollowed some fan websites accounts on twitter, who were repeatedly brnging news and pics about conventions.
    It was really depressing to see them like that at the conventions. Knowing “Behind the Camera” stuff is making the show less enjoyable. I guess, I don’t want to be active online regarding Supernatural next season.

    I think my liking for Supernatural is gradually decreasing since the day I typed “Supernatural” on Google.

  • Mickey 1.0

    But boo, why’d the Castiel fanwank have to start early. :(

    For the most part, we’re not fanwanking so much as discussing the fanwank. ;)

  • KS

    Enjoy this beautiful poem, based on humanity and human emotions. The poetess of this poem and Eric Kripke, IMO, share a few thoughts, I believe.

  • RS

    Is that a hate-Castiel site? Thanks! There are more than 2 haters. The character was featured in an article about characters that polarized the fans. He got many comments, and they were about equal in terms of positive and negative. I don’t delude myself that his presence or lack thereof has any effect on the ratings. But it would be pretty to think so. I watch all episodes once. If I don’t like one (anything Cas-heavy) I don’t watch it more than once (unlike my Seasons 1-3 eps, which get watched to death). The Bobby character, on the other hand, I love.
