5/3 Update: The Vampire Diaries, 90210 & Supernatural have all been renewed.
-
While I still think that The Secret Circle has a better chance at renewal than Nikita and Hart Of Dixie, after two consecutive 0.5 adults 18-49 ratings I can no longer consider it "likely to be renewed" and it's now down to a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation.
And while The L.A. Complex may have a long and happy life in Canada, after its six episodes run on the CW this spring, you'll never see it on The CW again because of its dreadful ratings. I've also moved Ringer to "certain cancellation". As now the lowest rated CW show on any night (save TLAC), it's done.
This is the last "regular" CW Renew/Cancel Index post of the 2011-12 season. Next week Robert and I combine for our annual "Oddsmakers" final predictions for the season.

Notes:
-
- certain to be cancelled by May, 2012 -
- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012 -
- toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012 -
- more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012 -
- certain to be renewed by May, 2012
The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@Melanie – Yea, I know. I was saying I predict that Arrow and TCD will have the option to receive the back 9/will receive it. And that I think in order to bring in 5 or 6 new shows, at least one of the other ones will need to be like Cult and have a pre-determined 13 episode season with no back 9 option.
LIFE UNEXPECTED was a beautiful heartwarming series! ugh I wish The CW would have never canceled it! They are always canceling good shows with potential! I wish it was never on the “TUESDAY 9/8c” slot !
I surely do hope The CW would consider to renew HART OF DIXIE! The cW needs hartwarming shows, but LIFE UNEXPECTED was a show a person could relate to!

Book trailers are generally awful and they tell you nothing. I’ve read the book and the Pilot script for “The Selection” and they are both great. The actual pilot script incorporates way more action (to make it closer to THG) than in the first book because the book is from one character’s POV. I don’t think people should write it off.
^^ but at least it had a proper finale : ) THUMBS UP
There’s nothing like the good ole WB!

not in the key demographic which is women 18-34 = 0.7
oops wrong post
I was browsing the internet and stumbled upon a “save our show” campaign for TSC. It is kind of sad to see fans really think they can make a difference *sigh*
No one is to blame but the writers who couldn’t come up with a decent storyline for 15 episodes.
Can I ask a question do the cw take in the ratings over here in the uk cause on sky living TSC is getting 1.8 ?
@Charlie no, they dont!
@ Peter thank u
where can be found UK rating?
EP Jim Michaels at Rio Con: Supernatural’s S8 will have 24 episodes.
In an inverview, jessica l. said that season 5 of 90210 will have 24 episodes and the cast starts shooting in july!
I wonder if this means TVD will get 24 as well? I know that it takes them longer to shoot each episode and it takes longer in post production because of the special effects…so they would have to start shooting earlier. Plus I think it’s expensive to do all that so I’d be a little surprised if it got 24 like 90210 and SPN
Sorry for the DP but I hit enter too soon. Damn iPhone!
To add on to the 90210 news – the 24 episodes and July start date were confirmed by a writer and someone with production for the show as well. I wonder if there will be some sort of official announcement at the upfronts?
@Kate
I am sure thats what Mark P. wants but last year Kevin W. declined so it seems like a long shot. Besides, this year Kevin W. has a pilot at Fox so he will be busier.
I tried watching TSC the other night, and I stand by my statement from the beginning, the kids all need to be replaced except for Cassie.
The whole scene where the girl ran into her date or boyfriend, and the fight with her father was really bad.
Then the end scene with the whole crystal, I am like really OMG how bad is this. They really need better writers and actors to pull stuff like that off. It felt like they were just reading the lines with no emotion or reaction at all. Honestly doesn’t feel like Kevin Williamson is even doing this show at all…
Yes, I watched the first 7 episodes, stopped watching and tried to pick it up again, but I can’t do it…
I might add TVD to my list of shows to pick up again, I stopped watching beginning of season two.. Then I hear people talking about the whole love triangle thing between Damon, Elena and Stephen. (I am like really, reminds me of Buffy, Angel, and Spike) LOL I am not big on love triangles at all don’t like soapy aspects in my spooky shows.
If I was apart of the CW executives and the president blah blah.
-The CW would renew GOSSIP GIRL for a final season with 13 episodes.
-The CW would renew HART OF DIXIE and THE SECRET CIRCLE for a second season.
-The CW should cancel NIKITA and RINGER .
-The CW will pick up these plots: ARROW, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, FIRST CUT, THE SELECTION and THE CARRIE DIARIES .
-The CW would have a different and brand image campaign: They have had”TV TO TALK ABOUT” for nearly three years now. (I think they should go back with The WB’s retro backlot feel!)
-The CW would have a different logo.
-The CW will promote the hell out of its network with creative and cool promos!
-The CW would program 7 days with 15 hours instead of FREAKING 10 hours!
-The CW would also get rid of that TOONZAI CRAP on Saturday Mornings and rebrand it with humorous Warner Bros. cartoons or just axe the whole block!
and That would be The New CW ! : )
@SmG – I don’t pay super close attention to the going ons behind the scenes at TVD, but last I heard KW is barely involved with the show at this point. It’s mostly Julie Plec from what I’ve gathered (which explains the decline in quality…). I didn’t know Mark wanted them to do 24 last year. I think they would be smart to stick with 22 unless the storytelling gets better.
@Freyja – Really?! Cassie is probably my least favorite actress/character on that show. I can’t stand her, which is why I found the show so boring for the first 15 episodes because so much of it was about her. I do agree that they’re all pretty weak acting wise, though. Like I’ve said before, TSC doesn’t have a standout actress or actor like a lot of the shows on The CW do. I’m pretty sure KW was involved with only the pilot and that was it. It’s hard to believe, but the writing has actually improved from the beginning.
As far as TVD goes, season 2 is good (not as good as season 1), and season 3 has been pretty mediocre. There are a couple stand out episodes (most near the beginning of the season), but overall season 3 was weak in comparison. The love triangle stuff is heavily emphasized near the end of season 2 and most of season 3, just fyi.
