  • 1 part Fringe renewal, removing an hour from the 2012-13 schedule for 13 episodes

Mix and wait for Fan Excuse Bingo play to begin!

Those who'll jump to play the "Fox can't cancel all their rookie dramas" square, may wish to refresh their memory about what happened last season.

This is the last "regular" Fox Renew/Cancel Index post of the 2011-12 season. Next week Robert and I combine for our annual "Oddsmakers" final predictions for the season.

  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Oh, yes.. Terra Nova too.. 20th Fox dumb Rupert Murdoch’s mafia gang .. they canceled it too .. and they renewed the fake sci-fi awful Fringe scam just to please Rupert Murdoch’s niece actress wannabe that can’t act, that show was created just for her and nothing else.
Shame on 20th Fox. Rupert Murdoch deserves to go to jail along with the whole 20th Fox board

    @David Howell
Speaking of which, I see Fox keeping Glee where it is because – well, the only place you can move it other than the post-singing results slot is Monday night.

Between that and the anaemic post-Idol drama ratings, there is one simple strategy: a new Thursday 9pm comedy block.

If FOX puts sitcoms on Thursday night, they will be crushed by The Big Bang Theory (having The Office in that slot won’t help either).

FOX will most likely go with four sitcoms on Tuesday as it’s by far the easiest night to establish sitcoms on. NBC probably won’t be putting sitcoms there due to the scheduling synergy between The Voice and Biggest Loser and ABC hasn’t established itself there yet (and will probably move its multi-cams to Friday).

Glee should move to that Thursday timeslot. Most everyone views this as a waste of a good lead-in. I think it’s a completely brutal timeslot and there’s no chance of a FOX drama doing well there anyways, but at least Glee is more likely than Bones or a freshman drama of holding the XF or Idol lead-in.

I’ll go so far as to say I think FOX should move the Idol results shows to 9pm and put a new drama (or Bones) on at 8 once Glee goes on hiatus (with Glee coming back Wed at 9 in April).

On the bench: at least one other comedy, in case a new one flops quickly

I think FOX should pick up four or five new sitcoms, with three ready for fall. If one fails out of the gate before The X Factor moves to Tuesday, then it shouldn’t be on the schedule when they come back in November.

FOX can air a max of 10 episodes of sitcoms in the fall, so any midseason replacement will be able to air their full 13 episode season on all-new nights (unlike how ABC manages things). They also have Sunday at 7 open for burn-off or even Raising Hope if things go really well.

There will be no decision on Bob’s Burgers because there doesn’t have to be – the unaired second half of season 2 can air in the fall, Flintstones can take the spot in February

Flintsones has been shelved for the time being because Seth MacFarlane doesn’t have time to do it. I think they’ll renew Bob’s Burgers for 9-22 episodes this month and end one of MacFarlane’s shows next season (probably American Dad), maybe Cleveland as well if Bob’s Burgers does well this fall. Flintstones should premiere either Fall 2013 or after the Super Bowl.

Past Nick (on video) to Future Nick: Be nicer to Coach or he’s gonna take off, live with a bunch of other white people.

So, just to be clear…very bad-pathetic-awful Touch and awful Fringe are both on the air as part of an Avatar scam 24/7 brainwashing machine perpetuated by Rupert Murdoch and his “mafia gang” in his attempt to take over the world?

If Fox had kept Terra Nova and Terminator:TSCC, would you have continued to watch Fox and become one of the sheep brainwashed by the Avatar scam 24/7 brainwashing machine just because you like those shows so much?

    Just curious.

Is it confirmed that FOX will have two hours of sitcoms next fall?

If so, that means they will only premiere one drama and two sitcoms in the fall.

    If not, they can

    a) premire two dramas (Monday and Thursdy) and no sitcoms.

    b) one drama (Monday) and two sitcoms (Thursady)

    Friday is the wild card.

Fringe / Kitchen shows / The Finder / Raising Hope can go there.

FOX usually does a fall schedule and a midesason schedule so anyhting ould happen especially given that Fringe wil only have 13 episodes so it won’t occupy Fridays for the whole season.

In all cases Touch will have to be cancelled. It’s not strong enough to be on Mondays, good enough to ‘nurture’ on Thursdays, or old enough to limp on Fridays. It’s this year’s Lie to Me/Human Target/Chicago Code.

@observer: I don’t recognize you. I’m going to have to ask you to swear on your grave not to cheat at the game, and to answer a trivia question: How many Touch episodes so far have featured the same duo of perpetually cheerful Japanese girls?

Until then, voters go by @Liz’s numbers.

jajajajaja in your face, Fringe will hava another short season…..jajajajaja again…in your face….

One thing Touch needs is a universal translinator like Star Trek, b/c I hate subtitles.

Touch was doomed the moment it was switched from Monday to run against innovative powerhouse POI on Thursday. Similar audience, similar premise, radically different execution. The autistic kid is no machine and Keiffer Sutherland is no Jim Caviezel, not by a long shot. Add in Michael Emerson and Taraji Henson and POI comes out the obvious winner.

While I like Kiefer Sutherland, I think Touch is a waste of his time. Well, I’ll keep tuning in anyways.

NB: I can’t stop to do a happy dance every time I see the “renewed” next to American Dad.

  • The End

    @Malleus Dentilegorum

I agree, purely because of the evil cliffhanger 24 ended on. We have to assume that crazy Jack left the US of A, couldn’t possibly come back from what he did at the end of Season 8 lol
