Lowe to Portray Prosecutor Jeff Ashton in Film Based on Ashton’s

Book about High-Profile and Controversial Caylee Anthony Murder Trial

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 3, 2012) – On the heels of his acclaimed role in the hit Lifetime Original Movie, Drew Peterson: Untouchable, Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award nominee Rob Lowe will star in the new Lifetime Original Movie Prosecuting Casey Anthony (working title).  Lowe will portray Jeff Ashton, the Florida prosecutor in last year’s controversial Caylee Anthony murder trial and author of the best-selling book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony, upon which the movie will be based.

Prosecuting Casey Anthony will reveal Ashton’s inside story of the true crime drama that captivated and then shocked the nation when Caylee Anthony’s mother, Casey, was acquitted of killing her daughter, despite what many thought to be overwhelming evidence of guilt.  The movie will be seen from Ashton’s (Lowe) perspective and take viewers behind-the-scenes of both the investigation into Caylee’s tragic death and the ensuing trial, shedding new light on the many questions of what happened to the two year-old girl, how Ashton and his fellow prosecutors built their case and why a woman so shrouded in suspicion was proclaimed innocent.  With in-depth information about the case and the accused, Prosecuting Casey Anthony will examine what the prosecution got right, what they got wrong and why Ashton remains convinced of Casey Anthony’s guilt.

Regarding the announcement, Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President, Programming, of Lifetime Networks, said, “We’re thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson.  He’s one of those rare stars who can do it all, comedy, drama, heroes and villains.  There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range.”

Prosecuting Casey Anthony will be executive produced by Jean Abounader (Lifetime’s We Have Your Husband, Held Hostage) and Michelle Manning (The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles).  Peter Werner (Justified, Medium) will direct the screenplay by Alison Cross (Rizzoli & Isles, Raising the Bar).  The film will be produced by Fox Television Studios.  Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony is published by HarperCollins.

In January, Lowe starred in the Lifetime Original Movie Drew Peterson: Untouchable, which averaged 5.8 million Total Viewers, becoming basic cable’s most watched original movie premiere in two years since the network’s The Pregnancy Pact in 2010, as well as this year’s number one movie telecast across basic cable among all key demographics.

Like the “Long Island Lolita” Amy Fisher, I’m sure that there will be at least three different made-for-TV movies about Casey.

Last time for “Amy”…we had Drew and Alyssa. Who was the third one?

  • CortexiphanFan

He couldn’t more perfect for this role. I’ve been waiting soooo long for this; I can’t wait…BLAAAAAAHAHA…whatever.

Will Rob Lowe be the new Meredith Baxter “Birney”? #careerlow

Good to hear that they are basing this TV Movie off of Jeff Ashton’s book. I read the book and can’t wait for the movie to come out. This will further show how Guilty Casey Anthony is and so much that was left out of the trial due to hearsay evidence. Casey is 100% Guilty of Harming Caylee and Neglecting her body. BOYCOTT all Anthony’s from profiting off of Caylee’s murder.

Lowe loves his murder movies based on real life. Didn’t he just get done playing Drew Peterson?

  • JR

Whenever I see or hear “Lifetime Original Movie,” Victoria Chase always comes to mind. :)

Ugh. An innocent child gets murdered… and a movie is made. That’s America for you.

Lowe must need the money. The only reason to do this.

Why does Rob Lowe hate his career?

That got me curious, I had to search for the answer. The third one was Noelle Parker. Found this review of the trio:

  • Lynn

Wow. He badly needs Aaron Sorkin to rescue his career. Again.

  • Ralph Hahn

@AppleStinx: Thanks for the info, but I barely remember the name “Noelle Parker.” She must have starred SyFy channel version. lol

@Lynn: Aaron Sorkin is probably too much involved in Obamas re-election campaign.

Don’t forget about the transition of “The West Wing.” Lowe was supposed to be The Star and Martin Sheen was pegged for only occasional appearances.

Sheen stole the show and Rob quit.

So does this mean that crazy Casey sould her rights for this film and will now be worth millions. If so alot of people will not watch this movie. By the way who plays the evil girl?

  • bess moore

Omg! Who cares? Casey should have gone to the gas chamber!

  • bess moore

Are we really that hard up for something to watch? I’d rather watch paint dry! She deserves nothing!

  • Carrie

WWWRRROONNNGGGG! I cant beleive they are gonna make a movie about this sad story. Will defently not watch and will spread the word to friends not to watch it either. Casey better not get a single cent if this movie actually succeeds..I am disgusted with Lifetime. Every one who works at lifetime must have no heart at all!

  • Vanessa

Not trying to be snippy, advance apologies, but CASEY didnt sell a damn thing for this movie to happen!! Jeff Ashton did!
I’m sorry, I dont want any Anthony’s making money off the back of that sweet little girl who’s dead, but it kind of stinks up Ashton’s credibility…..He sold the book, made plenty of cash! Why, why, why does it have to have Lifetime crappy movie accompaniment?
So none of you ever watch Rob Lowe on Parks and Rec? He’s really good on the show, well, the whole show is great. Amy Poehler, when has ever steered you wrong?
