Update: 12:35p PT May 3: Now officially official. 90210 and The Vampire Diaries have been renewed as well.

Update 12:20p PT May 3: looks like the timing of telling the cast and crew was...not perfect. Tweets have been pulled down etc., but as far as I'm concerned telling the cast and crew the show is renewed *is* an official confirmation, just not an official announcement. I'd expect some sort of official announcement shortly.

Some noise on Twitter from folks working at the show that Supernatural has been renewed and our friends at Zap2it have confirmed it's true. Supernatural has been renewed for an 8th season. No surprise to anyone following the CW's Renew/Cancel Index.

    This bit of news probably got out before it was supposed to. Other decisions were made too.

    I hope season 8 recaptures what the show used to be. Season 7 was a nightmare.

  • rob60990

    I wouldn’t be surprised if the CW issues a press release renewing a few shows.

  • ChrisA

    Congrats ‘Supernatural’ fans.
    Waiting for TVD and Nikita renewals.

  • Freyja

    I agree with Kate, I love you guys but I am waiting for an official press release from the CW themselves. LOL

    But it is obvious since two crew members reported were picked up yet deleted their tweets. There is no way that You guys would post bogus information.

    But a press release would be sweet right about now lol

    @Rob: nor would I. My guess (like JJA’s above) is that not all the PR ducks were in a row as far as having a release queued up and ready to go BEFORE telling the people who worked on Supernatural.

  • Kate

    Ah, the joys of social media. People leaking information they’re not supposed to one tweet at a time

  • Michael

    Looks like the two crew members weren’t suppose to reveal it, lol.

  • Chris

    When you get right down to it, the only successful CW shows have been WB shows. Yeah, Vampire Diaries, but will that run eight seasons? It’s looking pretty long in the tooth (heh) in its third season. :D

  • KS

    @Robert

    Thanx a ton for the Supernatural pic without Castiel in that. I hope he will be written off even in season 8.

  • Harris

    Boom. Like there was any doubt :-D

  • Hades

    @KS

    I doubt it unfortunately

  • 47th

    Woah. Eight seasons is nothing to laugh at.
    Congratulations.

  • A.

    Yes!

  • Nikki

    Good for another Scfi show to go the distance.
    Love Supernatural happy to see it back for next season.

  • Chris

    So the big question–can Supernatural get past Charmed in the “Which cheesy show about pretty-faced demon-fighters has the most episodes?” sweepstakes?

    They both beat Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which wasn’t always cheesy, but sure finished that way).

    ;)

    Surprised TVD and SPN Were not renewed together.

  • KS

    @Hades

    Lets the enjoy the renewal of this great show for a few hours. We have loads of time to talk that Castiel Crap later on. But now …WOOOOO

  • 5678

    CW renewal announcements for the rest of the shows imminent?

  • Tony

    **Awaits Nikita’s Cancellation**

  • Freyja

    Surprised TVD and SPN Were not renewed together.

    That’s because two cast members of SPN announced the renewal then deleted the tweets before the CW could do the official press release.
