THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS FOR "THE Vampire Diaries," "SUPERNATURAL" AND "90210"

May 3, 2012 (Burbank, California) - The CW Network has given early pickups to the network's top-rated show, THE Vampire Diaries, fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, and the world's most-famous zip code, 90210, with all three series to return for the 2012-2013 season.

THE Vampire Diaries will return for a fourth season of bloody good drama this fall, SUPERNATURAL will mark its eighth season with the monster-hunting Winchester brothers on The CW, and on 90210, the gang from West Beverly will return for season five.

Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson ("Scream," "Dawson's Creek"), Julie Plec ("Kyle XY," "Wasteland"), Leslie Morgenstein ("Gossip Girl," "Private") and Bob Levy ("Gossip Girl," "Privileged").

SUPERNATURAL is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers McG ("Charlie's Angels," "The O.C."), Robert Singer ("Midnight Caller"), Jeremy Carver ("Being Human") and Phil Sgriccia.

90210 is produced by CBS Productions with executive producers Patti Carr ("Life Unexpected," "Private Practice") and Lara Olsen ("Life Unexpected," "Private Practice").

    @Googly and there’s a 0.1 difference between Nikita and TSC. And a 0.1 difference between TSC and HOD. And a 0.1 difference between HOD and SPN.

    What’s your point? Chill out and maybe watch the show some time. The ratings are low because it’s the CW. Most people that watch the CW watch it for teens making stupid decisions or love triangles. Or they watch it for SPN and/or Nikita. The fact that Nikita attracts a different kind of audience is a +1 from me – in fact, it’s the only reason why I even give the CW the light of day for the past two years :) .

    If you want to watch a bad show, watch TSC in it’s entirety. Now THAT’s bad :D

    What I “honestly think” is that 149 episodes in the bag, with a guarantee of at least 22 more, of a show that I like is a good thing. That not as many people watch it as watch other genre shows on some other network, or that some of those 149 episodes aren’t always that great (shocker!), doesn’t matter to me one bit. Bottom line is that I get to watch new episodes of a show that I like for at least another year. My show gambled and got lucky in the TV ratings sweepstakes. Again. Yay for them and me.

    As for Grimm and Fringe, I already said that I wasn’t ragging on them. I picked them solely for the reason that they are genre shows in the same time slot with SPN and are its direct competition. So, if you’re going to do something silly like comparing one network’s apples with another network’s oranges as some measure of survival chances, you might as well at least compare the ones in the same bowl.

    Also, if you do compare performances within the same season, the show’s relative ranking and raw demo scores on its own network, and the percentage drops per season of each show, I don’t think it’s *too* much ratings voodoo to guess that a show getting 0.9s on FOX in its fourth season would do worse on the CW than a show in its seventh season getting 0.7s in the same year. Sure, it’s a guess, but it’s still a guess based on hard figures rather than just wanting your show to win.

    I mean, you couldn’t pay me to watch 90210, but I still think it deserved its early renewal alongside TVD and SPN. It’s been getting steady, reasonably-healthy-for-its-network ratings all season. What I think of its quality doesn’t matter at all. It made sense for them to renew it. Like it or not, for the network, making money from the ratings is what it’s all about.

    Not surprising, but I’m excited for TVD and 90210! I want TSC and Gossip Girl to be renewed too :( keeping my fingers crossed.

  4. josh

    hahahah take that bubble !

  5. to cw

    dont forget to cancel TWARD of Dixie!

  6. Alan

    Final choices:
    Cancelled: Ringer, Nikita, LA Complex, Remodeled, H8R (already cancelled)
    Renewed: Gossip Girl (final season), TSC (full season) and HoD (13 episodes, order more if the ratings are acceptable or cancel if they are lower).

    Sera Gamble is writing the season finale of Supernatural. I am sure, its gonna be awesome. Its probably the last episode for Sera on Supernatural. So, she is gonna make it look in a way, that even the biggest haterr would say “I miss Sera!”

    No surprises here. Yawn…

    Still see TSC being renewed and moved to Fridays.

    Still see Nikita, Ringer, Hart of Dixie doomed. Gossip Girl should be but probably won’t be for no known rational reason.

  9. Googly

    Kavyn-A 1 away makes it 2 away going by your math. And would much rather be 2 ft away than 1 from a 12 inch blade…

  10. Googly

    TSC isn’t much different than NIKITA. They are paired with the CDubs #1 and 2 shows and they still manage to get absolute crap ratings. At least the other shows do bleh together. It’s so much worse when your numbers suck an hour before the numbers go way up. That Friday excuse gets pretty weak. And the love triangle
    on Friday belonged to NIKITA.

    Seen it coming!

    This will be the final renewal/cancel;

    The Vampire Diaries – Renewed
    Supernatural – Renewed
    90210 – Renewed
    Nikita – Renewed
    America’s Next Top Model – Renewed
    Gossip Girl – 13 episode final season
    The Secret Circle – Cancelled
    Hart of Dixie – Cancelled
    Ringer – Cancelled

    Frankly I didn’t expect anything to get renewed so I’m pleasantly surprised at the announcement regarding Supernatural. Vampire Diaries I gave up on awhile ago though it’s not a shock it was renewed and i expect Nikita will be as well. 90210 on the other hand, I don’t get that renewal at all.

    Last I remember (admittedly I haven’t paid attention in ages) 90210 had tanked in the ratings, did it make some sort of comeback when I wasn’t looking?

    Back to Nikita I don’t really care about either lol but I will be paying attention to see what happens with The Secret Circle. I love that show almost as much as Supernatural…almost. Sadly I’m afraid Brit Robertson is one of those actors who’s going to continually see her shows canned after the first season.

    @Richard Steven Hack
    Your like a broken record, aren’t you? Playing the same exact tune over and over again.

  14. Michael

    TSC will be canceled. CW isn’t satisfied with writing, and rating ofc.

  15. Hades

    @AJ

    90210 has better ratings than Nikita, Ringer, GG, HOD and for the past few episodes TSC. There is no suprise it was renewed. It happens to be one of the most stable shows on the network.

    Nikita on the other hand has the season lowest average rating I believe so its renewal would have been more of a shock to most.

    Renew Ringer ! Great drama , great cast, great storylines ! And i love the creators Eric and Nicole the are the best ! This show was the best new drama show for me this fall of 2011-2012 ! If Mark Pedowitz president of the cw wants quality this is a quality show, not like the rest of the dramas that are teens trash shows !

  20. shuail

    i am a Nikita fan so i wish they could just end the show with a 13 episode so we could have a good ending because if the show is in danger it will be canceled afterwords so its safe to end it by next year than hoping for a renewal although this show could go on for 5 seasons and more ,plus i think hart of dixie and ringer will be canceled , gossip girl for a series finally and to be truthful secrete circle is unknown
