Ok, it's official, The CW has renewed Supernatural, 90210 and The Vampire Diaries. Supernatural for an 8th season, The Vampire Diaries for a fourth season and 90210 for a fifth season.

here's the release:

May 3, 2012 (Burbank, California) - The CW Network has given early pickups to the network's top-rated show, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, and the world's most-famous zip code, 90210, with all three series to return for the 2012-2013 season.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES will return for a fourth season of bloody good drama this fall, SUPERNATURAL will mark its eighth season with the monster-hunting Winchester brothers on The CW, and on 90210, the gang from West Beverly will return for season five.

Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson ("Scream," "Dawson's Creek"), Julie Plec ("Kyle XY," "Wasteland"), Leslie Morgenstein ("Gossip Girl," "Private") and Bob Levy ("Gossip Girl," "Privileged").

SUPERNATURAL is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers McG ("Charlie's Angels," "The O.C."), Robert Singer ("Midnight Caller"), Jeremy Carver ("Being Human") and Phil Sgriccia.

90210 is produced by CBS Productions with executive producers Patti Carr ("Life Unexpected," "Private Practice") and Lara Olsen ("Life Unexpected," "Private Practice").

@KS, they would have announced it at the upfronts as last season if S8 was the last one. I think unless it starts pulling 0.4s like nikita next year, we can say that it has guaranteed season 9 as well (tough it may be a send off season with 13 episodes)

  • Tim

Supernatural has been pretty dreadful the last 2 years

Talk about flogging a dead horse

  • KS

Then Quit watching the show. It has lots of fans. That is why it is renewed.

  • Aakygt

    90210 gets a 0.6

If GG keeps its 0.6 from this week, its sure to get renewed.

  • Sara

OTH was first renewed, and a couple of days later it was announced that it would be their final. So, anything can happen, but I don’t think so, given the fact that they are early renewed.

I do think that they will go this way with GG..

  • alexjones

no surprise, and now ABC is the last remaining network yet to announce any renewals, just what is taking them so long?

  • Kate

I highly doubt it’s SPN last season too (same with 90210). SPN is really steady and successful, especially for a Friday night. I have a feeling they’ll keep it around until the actors want out.

Yay, so excited about these renewals! I don’t think we’ll hear anything about the rest of the shows for 2 weeks. Maybe a special announcement for GG’s final season, but who knows.

  • Sara

    ‘ 90210, I mean

  • Tim

Less then 2mill viewers is hardly great.
If it was had aired on NBC, Fox or ABC it wouldn’t have lasted past 5 seasons before cancelled

  • SherLOCKED (The Mighty Cringe)

I just want official news for Ringer.

  • Adrian

I don’t understand why a lot of people are surprised with 90210 renewal. Numbers speak for themselves.

    “90210 gets a 0.6″

And it also was amazingly stable with lots of 0.7-0.8s and no 0.5 not even once.

Plus more episodes, more money from Netflix/Hulu

  • Scot

Great that it’s finally official news! TVD and SPN are looking to go out with some excellent cliffhangers this season too, can’t wait for the fall seasons to begin already! :)

  • Spencer

Schedules for next season coming’ soon
    Any day or week

  • Jason50

Maybe Gossip Girl was not a lock for renewal. One can only hope.

Schedules for next season coming’ soon
    Any day or week

If history is any indication, I’m guessing we’ll see the schedule on May 16th, the day before the CW’s upfront.

CW renewing series with 1 million viewers…WTF???…they should be canceled

  • KS

Check the ratings and numbers of other shows on CW. SPN is the second highest rated on the network. And yeah, if it were aired on other networks, it would have got better promotion and would have attracted many more viewers, but I agree with you, it would have not lasted past 5 seasons.

I don’t think the show will get the same numbers as it is getting now on CW, if aired on some major network.

GG is practically renewed, with showrunners, cast, producers and writers going out and saying how great things will be in S6

    Examples from Twitter (@ggwriters)

@GGWriters so you mean the show is ending? Please don’t. I don’t enjoy seeing Blair & Chuck apart.

    2 May Gossip Girl Writers?@GGWriters

    @SusanDSettle No no, not ending.

    Devin Perry?@DLo86

    @GGWriters End?!?! FOREVER?

    2 May Gossip Girl Writers?@GGWriters

@DLo86 No! Just the season! Lol!

@GGWriters i’m honestly sad that you’re leaving :'( but i trust the rest of the writers and i’m stoked for s6! and also 523 and 524 :))

    2 May Gossip Girl Writers?@GGWriters

@strawberryrai The S6 team will be so, so, so, so wonderful. Promise.

    Gossip Girl Writers?@GGWriters

@strawberryrai This is he, yes. Thanks. I’ve loved writing for all of you for five years. Sad to go, but GG is in GREAT hands. S6 will RULE.

Given that Safran and now Navar-Gill are gone… Is anyone worried #GG’s been cancelled and @CW_network is just not telling us? Seems odd.

    1 May Gossip Girl Writers?@GGWriters

    @GGirlsss @CW_network don’t worry.

  • hello

My guess is that they renew one more show

  • JJJ

Great news for SPN though expected. There is no way they are announcing this season as SPN’s last. They would have done it here. Season 9 looks extremely possible.
