Ok, it's official, The CW has renewed Supernatural, 90210 and The Vampire Diaries. Supernatural for an 8th season, The Vampire Diaries for a fourth season and 90210 for a fifth season.

here's the release:

May 3, 2012 (Burbank, California) - The CW Network has given early pickups to the network's top-rated show, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, and the world's most-famous zip code, 90210, with all three series to return for the 2012-2013 season.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES will return for a fourth season of bloody good drama this fall, SUPERNATURAL will mark its eighth season with the monster-hunting Winchester brothers on The CW, and on 90210, the gang from West Beverly will return for season five.

Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios with executive producers Kevin Williamson ("Scream," "Dawson's Creek"), Julie Plec ("Kyle XY," "Wasteland"), Leslie Morgenstein ("Gossip Girl," "Private") and Bob Levy ("Gossip Girl," "Privileged").

SUPERNATURAL is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers McG ("Charlie's Angels," "The O.C."), Robert Singer ("Midnight Caller"), Jeremy Carver ("Being Human") and Phil Sgriccia.

90210 is produced by CBS Productions with executive producers Patti Carr ("Life Unexpected," "Private Practice") and Lara Olsen ("Life Unexpected," "Private Practice").

therock, you do realize total # of viewership is irrelevant to networks, right? I’m sure you’re referring to 90210, which the show has been steady as a rock this season.

  • Brandy

Tommy, could you provide mee a link with the news that HoD is the cheapest cw show to make please.Nikita/Ringer fans were saying HoD is more expensive to produce.

  • JJJ

GG will get renewede but maybe for just 13 shows.

  • Sara

Where’s SID? Has he got the news that 90210 is renewed? Haha, he will be so happy!

  • JJJ

  • The End

I remember saying quite a lot here that 90210 will be renewed. I don’t watch the show, but pretty much broke down how much it’d cost months ago to produce to someone here.

Supernatural was a given too, and Vampire Diaries.

Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and 90210 We already knew That !
We want To know about RINGER, Hart Of Dixie, Nikita, Gossip Girl and Secret Circle !
Cause LA Complex is deader than Dead and i can’t care less about That show !

  • HB

Yayieeee for TVD and SPN.Not suprising though..Good for 9-0.

  • GGMustDie

Did anyone notice? Deadline is promoting Nikita!!!

  • Steve

    Really hope Nikita is renewed!

  • Michael

Brandy, do you actually believe that? Especially, with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s salary.

  • Charmed

    So happy! (But not surprised)

This is the first time I can say this, so I will say it very loud and with a smile: THANK YOU CW, FOR RENEWING SUPERNATURAL!!! I do believe I may have found another new favorite show.

This is good but if Mark was serious in that article about ratings not being the main thing and quality matters I think for the most part. Ringer and Hart of Dixie should seriously be renewed they have really strong fan bases and have been doing good one way or another. Ringer with awards, internationally airing in 40 countries, DVR, and the TV to talk about factor. Hart of Dixie with stable ratings. I hope in the end Nikita does get cancelled and GG and Ringer get a 13 ep order. For GG to end and for Ringer to prove itself on another night. If it doesn’t do well then I know us Ringer fans will be happy with it’s cancellation. But since that time slot has cancelled every new show in its path and now has the record of getting the lowest ratings ever in primetime history and finding out for the second time The LA Complex went up on total viewers again as a rerun on wednesday night. This might be helping the CW think again about Ringer’s fate. As for TSC I don’t know about that one, I know it won’t survive next season if it gets renewed though. Especially since I’m thinking they will put it on fridays.

It looks as though the ratings for the other shows that were not announced are going to be looked at in the coming weeks to make tough decisions. 90210 has been getting 0.6s in the demo so I think as long the shows stay 0.6 and above the rest of the season, those ones have a shot at coming back.

Gossip Girl has been up and down with 0.5 and 0.6 demos. If it can stay at a 0.6 for the remainder, should be back.
The same goes for Hart of Dixie, if it can continue staying as steady as it has been recently or even see an increase, renew.
I don’t expect Ringer to be renewed.
I don’t expect Nikita to be renewed.
The Secret Circle needs to pull itself together tonight and next week if it wants a shot at renewal.

  • The End

Not a Supernatural fan here, but predicted Supernatural will go on for 10 seasons. Not a betting person, but if I was I would put serious money down on this show going on for another few seasons.

  • The End

Offtopic, this will be the month of renewals or cancellations for most networks. For remaining shows.

Could be an interesting month for good or bad news :)

I’m sorry I don’t have a link, it was in a print issue of Variety this last December. It might be on their website with some searching. But they were talking about how “Hart of Dixie,” “90210,” and “America’s Next Top Model” where the cheapest shows the network produced while “The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Nikita” are on the more expensive side.

  • Michael

Bizarro, what awards has Ringer won? Besides, that TV Guide award.

  • Manny

I love how people keep talking about when “the rest” of their renewals will come. Lol. Get a grip; they’re not getting renewed. Except possibly Gossip Girl.

But anyone who thinks Ringer, Nikita, Heart of Dixie or Secret Circle have a chance at renewal are in for a shock. They would have gotten picked up with this batch were that the case. The only hope any of those shows have is if something goes wrong with their new batch of shows and decide not to pick one of the pilots up after all.
