The NBA Playoffs: Dallas versus Oklahoma City was Thursday's top cable program, earning a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49. Another playoff game, New York versus Miami came in second place with a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. Swamp People was the night's top cable original, with a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating, up from last week's 1.4.
We only receive the top 100 cable shows for adults 25-54 for the whole day from our primary source. If you don't see your show it wasn't in that top 100 list.

In terms of ratings, Heat/Knicks and Thunder/Mavericks series have been the only bright spots in the NBA postseason.

The fact that Torrid consistently has to bring up the NHL on a regular basis while insisting they aren’t a threat is amusing… Kinda proves that they are.
Also convenient that he still hasn’t addressed the NHL getting better attendance and nearly equal revenue. And if you don’t know yet, money makes the world go around.
What does Revenue and Attendance have to do with TV Ratings? This is a TV ratings site after all.

Too much hot air but keeps losing.
The point is that the NHL is in very good shape in most comparisons, and in terms of TV ratings they’re accelerating much faster than the NBA.
They should be accelerating faster because of where they are currently. The NHL could have a 100% increase and would still be behind so it would not be hard for them to keep increasing, but everything hits its ceiling.
If the NBA finals are Kobe vs Lebron expect record breaking ratings. If it is Durant vs Lebron expect record breaking ratings. I personally think it will be the Spurs and the Heat, but I even expect that to top last years ratings. The percentage increase for hockey finals (which will happen) could be higher and still gain less viewers.
Doubt they get up to the MJ ratings, sorry.

The message of these numbers is not lost on you I know – hockey is far less popular than Basketball in the USA despite the many decades of trying to lure americans into watching it.

Every year NHL fanbois fan out over the net trying to get people to respond to their subliminal messages
“watch white guys play hockey, don’t watch blacks guys play Basketball”
That is their message and they’ve been slinging it to America for decades – but nobody’s really buying it. The more they realize that the more shrill and desperate the message becomes. Its pathetic really but for the most part Hockey is not really an american sport (though it is so in Canada) – its inextricably identified with a fast fading bigoted culture that’s on its last legs in these good old United States. Thank heavens!!!. The powers that be in the hockey world know that and growing hockey beyond that niche has become their death struggle; they just cannot find a way to make it palatable to most americans and they and their fanbase are desperate.

These playoff numbers are not your friend Matty – so far there’s hardly any significant numerical improvement (not percentage u can lie so easily with that as I demonstrated in earlier postings) over last year’s ratings; that fact is making commish Bettman and many fanbois &hit their pants in frustration.
