Network Will Also Air Mother’s Day Marathon Of
“Everybody Loves Raymond”
New York, NY – May 4, 2012 – TV Land will air a special Mother’s Day-themed episode of “Happily Divorced,” starring Fran Drescher and guest-starring Rosie O’Donnell, on Wednesday, May 9th at 10:30pm ET/PT, the network announced today. The episode will revolve around Fran (Drescher) looking to spend quality time with her mother, Dori (Rita Moreno), after Fran forgets to make reservations for Mother’s Day at Dori’s favorite restaurant. Rosie O’Donnell will play Katie, a friend from Fran’s past who, more than anything, wishes to have her mother back so she can celebrate the special day with her. Both Drescher and O’Donnell have been very public about their relationships with their moms and how they have influenced who they are today, making this episode particularly meaningful.
TV Land will also air its annual Mother’s Day marathon, and this year it stars everyone’s favorite meddling mom, Marie Barone! With Marie (Doris Roberts) being the loving but overbearing mother that she is, there’s no better way to commemorate the day than with back to back episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” airing Sunday, May 13 from 9pm to 11:30pm ET/PT.
“Happily Divorced” stars and is inspired by the real-life story of sitcom favorite Fran Drescher (“The Nanny”), and revolves around Fran, a Los Angeles florist who finds out after 18-years of marriage that her husband is gay. Unable to sell the house with the economy tanking, she and her gay ex-husband Peter (John Michael Higgins, “Best in Show”) must continue to live together happily divorced as they both re-enter the dating world. “Happily Divorced” also features acclaimed actors Tichina Arnold (“Everybody Hates Chris”) as her best friend Judi; Rita Moreno (“OZ”) and Robert Walden (“All The President’s Men”) as Fran’s parents Glen and Dori and Valente Rodriguez (“George Lopez”) as Cesar, her flower shop employee. The series, filmed in front of a live audience, was recently picked up for 12 additional episodes for its second season, set to air later this year.

Love Rosie guest spot on The Nanny.

  • Thomas

At first I watched the show only for Fran out of nostalgia and I found that not many episodes were funny in season 1. But the quality has really improved and I now enjoy the show very much. It’s more subtle (not subtle, but more subtle) and I like the atmosphere and the cast as a whole. I wouldn’t have missed it after season 1, but I would miss it now. I’m happy it’s doing okay for TvLand which seems to believe in the show. Happy it’s been renewed for season 3 already! :-)

    @Thomas

I’m sorry. I made a mistake last week. It turns out after all that it was picked up for additional episodes, not renewal for a third season. Still, that’s a good renewal sign. Also, in your comment last week, I thought that you were such a huge Happily Divorced fan that you watched since the start of the show and enjoyed it. But, what the h–l it doesn’t matter.

  • MJDB

So happy I’ve seen promos for Retired at 35′s return too. Hope people didn’t forget about it.

  • Thomas

@mjdb: no worries, that was nice of you to answer my question anyway. I think if TvLand weren’t satisfied with the ratings they wouldn’t even bother ordering new episodes for Season 2, so as you said, that’s a good sign for renewal.

Actually I’m a Fran fan so it was obvious for me to give it a try but I was not THAT convinced at the beginning, whereas now I like it very much. There are so many shows which get worse and worse after each season and lose their quality that I thought it was important to highlight the fact that it’s not the case for this sitcom…

    Anyway, thanks again MJDB!

Rosie is an automatic turn-off!!! No one likes her any more!! Just ask Oprah.

  • nantsy3

Does anyone know what breed of puppy Rosie O’Donnell had with her when she guest starred on “Happily Divorced”? It looked like a baby brown bear. So cute!

  • nantsy3

BTW…(It was the dog that looked like the bear, not Rosie O’Donnell!) LOL!

  • MJDB

    The dog is so cute.

  • RyanCanada

This show is soo damn funny!

  • Riemichael

What breed of dog was that on the mothers day special?

  • Meemaw & Peapop

We believe the dog is a Pomeranian but recall Rosie highlighting a dog of this type on her show. If memory serves us correctly, we believe his name is “Mr. Winkles”, only ligher in color. We think the dog may be of a specific breeding distinctive to the elongated tongue. Click here for Mr. Winkles web-site: (http://www.mrwinkle.com/index1.htm).
