Which Friday Broadcast Genre Show Will 'The Avengers' Pummel Hardest: 'Nikita,' 'Fringe,' 'Grimm' or 'Supernatural?' (Poll)

Folks will no doubt have their Fan Excuse Bingo cards out tomorrow morning.  Yes, I know, just because it's a fan excuse doesn't mean it isn't true,  but finger pointing is tricky!  When The Hunger Games came out on March 23, both Supernatural and Fringe were down, but Nikita actually saw an increase with adults 18-49 (Grimm was a repeat that night).  Further, slightly more adults 18-49 were watching TV on Friday, March 23 than Friday, March 16 despite The Hunger Games.

The focus here on the more genre-y shows isn't to say that a big movie debut can't hurt the CBS procedural shows or even unscripted like Shark Tank and Undercover Boss, it's just fans of those shows usually don't seem as interested in playing Fan Excuse Bingo. Of course with Supernatural, Fringe and Grimm already renewed, those fans might not be as interested in playing along either.

That leaves Nikita. Based on past experience and the "when you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose" factor, I wouldn't expect Nikita to take the biggest hit, but we'll know Saturday morning.

    IMHO

    It’s a tricky thing to predict. Earlier this week I said the nets should expect to see across the board lows and I’ll stick to that prediction but …

    Just for the sake of argument I’ll pull some numbers outa my butt here … 2 million people who would normally be going out to dinner and the movies on a Friday know about the big Avengers event and they don’t want to be part of that so they stay home and watch TV which leads to overall increases since only 1.5 million “regular” Friday night viewers actually went out to see the movie. We don’t get to see the finer breakdowns of the ratings, just the overall raw numbers so we may never know the “real truth” about the impacts of blockbuster movies on TV viewing habits.

    If I had to pick which of the four will take the biggest hit, I’ll go with Grimm simply because it has the largest demo/total viewers and therefore has much more wiggle room to fluctuate their numbers.

    YMMV

    Help save Endgame and watch season 1 on Hulu and RIP Todd and the Book of Pure Evil

    What the F-in’ hell are you even saying? I can’t comprehend one sentence out of that rant.

    Please, for the love of God, stop. We’re already accused of being crazy for no reason on this site. We don’t need your weirdness to give it legitimacy.

    I like your question about how the hit movie “The Avengers” will affect TV viewing this weekend.

    BUT, you failed to take into consideration that we will be having a Super Moon this weekend. The largest and brightest full moon of the year and the moon will be at its closest distance to the earth. The internet is alive with all the effects of the moon from high tides, to the emotional effects on people. They are even predicting a baby boom in 9 months due to the Super Moon.

    Of course there is always the effect of the Weather in the spring.

    So when you take the combination of the Weather, the Super Moon and the movie hit “The Avengers”, it is easy to conclude that any increase or decrease in a TV shows ratings would be due to this triple threat.

    It is going to be a wild weekend!

    @Tessa

    Fine. Forget it. By the way, I’ve been called crazy before.

    By the way, I am upset about, Misha foddering wincest in his tweet yesterday. He could have done it in a better way. Or he could have gained attention by many other ways.

    @Tessa

    After I read my post, I found out that, there is a lot of scope for misunderstanding my words. After Supernatural got renewed, Misha tweeted in a very weird way about the renewal of Supernatural for season 8. I am upset about it.

  • JJJ

    KS quit the idiotic Cas hating and actor hating. What is wrong with you?

    “Of course with Supernatural, Fringe and Grimm already renewed, those fans might not be as interested in playing along either”

    This.

  • Lane

    Grimm – 1.1
    Fringe – .8
    Supernatural – .6
    Nikkita – .4

    @Tessa

    Ah, the crazy is the house!

  • Dennis

    I couldn’t care less about Fringe’s ratings to be honest…
    I’ve got my final season and I’m just looking forward to this years epic 2 parter BRAVE NEW WORLD. The movie trailer’s fox release for the Fringe finale’s are always sooo epic and I think this year is the best one… SO PUMPED
    I’m not even going to bother coming on tvbtn any more on a suturday.

    I’m just going to enjoy my favourite show and not feel anxious about ratings.

    @KS

    FFS, Misha is hardly the only one who makes jokes like that. The Wincest and Destiel undertones are so wildly known writers make puns about it in scripts. At Toronto con Jared put on a show about how Dean sleeps with Castiel’s trench coat and rubs it all over his face. Jensen and Misha played the famous fake orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally, and Jensen and Jared constantly make comments about being considered a couple. It’s all in good fun and all of them are comfortable with it. So stop making a mountain out of a molehill when you know nothing about context or meaning. I’m sure if the Js were to choose between you or Misha, they’d go for Misha.

    Oh, and Misha is in talks with the show runners about the next season so Castiel is going to be in season 8. Sorry to ruin your dreams. :)

    @SarahL

    Can I ask how old you are? Just out of curiosity. It’s been a while since someone responded to me with the classic, “No,you!” ;)

  • Dennis

    @SarahL

    Fringe and Supernatural fans = passionate about their show, not crazy.

    Grimm, while being a ratings hit for NBC … doesn’t seem to have many “fans”

  • Sid

    It doesn’t really matter for shows like GRIMM, SPN and FRINGE(as they’ve all be renewed); but for NIKITA it does matter a lot if CW is still considering another Season. I see it as the one most affected tonight :(

  • SarahL

    Fight! Fight! The crazy are cussing each other out now. LOL!

    Goodnight all (the cra cra included)! I am off to see The Avengers.

  • David Howell

    I agree with the comment that TUF is going to take a beating. Big audience crossover there I reckon.

    I think Fringe will take the biggest hit as it got a bump last week post-renewal.

  • Jenny

    @ Robert Seidman don’t I win some sort of Fan Excuse Bingo prize for my earlier post (shown below)? At least Fan Excuse Bingo player of the day?
    Just having fun , and I was going for a Fan Excuse Bingo card Prize.
    the Super Moon is real , and people are predicting Super Moon babies, but I am just having fun with it.
