Will TBS Save 'Cougar Town' If ABC Cancels It?

Big Bang Theory repeats leading into Cougar Town originals on TBS? Penny can!

Deadline reports that TBS is in preliminary conversations about saving Cougar Town should ABC cancel it. We've still got Cougar Town on the bubble, and I'd be at least a little bit more surprised to see TBS pick it up than ABC.  We won't have to wait long to know its fate on ABC -- ABC announces its schedule on May 15.

    TBS failed to save My Name is Earl when NBC canceled it. Can they save Cougar Town?

  • Theoacme

    @Kastad: And who says ABC won’t cancel some other, better rated shows instead of CT?

    Unless you have pictures of Sofia Vergara and Patricia Heaton sleeping with a certain terrorist that Navy SEALS killed last year, please explain which better rated ABC comedy they will cancel instead of Cougar Town?

  • JTV

    My Name is Earl also had 91 Episodes already

  • Irene

    YES!! I don’t care where it airs, the important thing is that this amazing show stays on TV!

  • Justin121

    My Name is Earl is one of the best comedies of all time.

    Shame. Now I know how the Arrested Development fans feel.

    But then again, most of the brilliant comedies peak during the first 3-4 seasons so…

    @Theoacme:

    For example Last Man Standing or Happy Endings. I think both shows are in more dangerous position than CT.

    Serious trouble – sounds like a long-shot fishing expedition from ABC Studios. Plenty of episodes from syndication the commercial viability of continuing “Cougar Town” is tenuous.

    “For example Last Man Standing or Happy Endings. I think both shows are in more dangerous position than CT.”

    Certainly not based on their ratings, which are much better than Cougar Town’s.

  • iggy.

    Well, TBS has money to throw around.

  • John A

    Last Man Standing isnt doing that well. Hasnt it been below a 2.0 a few times?

  • rob60990

    I think this explains why Bill Lawrence is so positive of a renewal.

  • kill00

    I wish Cougar Town gets another full season and i dont car on wich network just as long it is pickt up

  • Ryan

    While I really like Cougar Town, I hope this doesn’t happen as it will only lead to future “well maybe TBS will pick it up” for future low performing shows.

  • psychic

    What in the heck is TBS…?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    “I think this explains why Bill Lawrence is so positive of a renewal.”

    Hardly, it explains that ABC Studios and/or Bill Lawrence is whispering in Nellie Andreeva’s ear.

    Bill Lawrence is so positive of a renewal (in public), because it doesn’t make sense for him to be anything but *positive* in public about the show’s prospects.

    And he’s been “so positive” all season, far before these talks could have taken place.

    “I hope this doesn’t happen as it will only lead to future “well maybe TBS will pick it up” for future low performing shows.”

    Given the number of potential saviours that desperate fans have to toss around already, what difference does one more make?

    @Mr Mumble

    Eh, it’s close enough. ‘Til Death only has 81 and has been sold into broadcast syndication.

  • SJ

    I don’t know if TBS will save Cougar Town, but the fact that they’re even talking about it means that it’s effectively canceled, at least on ABC.

    I wouldn’t mind seeing more of the show, but ABC has got to get rid of it.

    @kaslad

    Why on Earth would a network cancel a high rated show only to save an absolute ratings loser?

  • ChrisA

    I don’t see Cougar Town but it would be a good for TBS.
    8:00 – House Of Payne
    8:30 – Are We There Yet? (Episodes have been filmed but not aired yet. Have no clue why.) OR Meet The Browns
    9:00 – Big Bang Theory
    9:30 – Cougar Town
    10:00 – Nikita (IF it gets cancelled) or TNT can pick it up
    11:00 – Conan

  • Wade

    Hope this happens! I would love to see the show continue on ABC, but the only way that could happen would be if ABC actually treats it decently (airing it with its Wednesday comedies), which we all know will never happen now. While I would love a Happy Endings/Cougar Town comedy hour, I’m just hoping for more Cougar Town anyway I can get it. Please make this happen TBS!

  • kaslad

    @SJ

    It has happened many times on different networks. Recent example is Fringe on Fox. In the end it’s all about money. If they think they will get more money for syndication, they will renew it. It’s not that weird at all, and there are many low rated shows renewed in the past because of syndication.
