Big Bang Theory repeats leading into Cougar Town originals on TBS? Penny can!

Deadline reports that TBS is in preliminary conversations about saving Cougar Town should ABC cancel it. We've still got Cougar Town on the bubble, and I'd be at least a little bit more surprised to see TBS pick it up than ABC.  We won't have to wait long to know its fate on ABC -- ABC announces its schedule on May 15.

While Cougar Town’s ratings are bad by major broadcast network standards, if it can draw on TBS what it has on ABC (mid-1’s) then that’s a victory for CBS. Most cable scripted shows not named Walking Dead, American Horror Story, or Monday Night RAW don’t draw that or above regularly.

Opps, I meant TBS, not CBS. This site seriously needs an edit option.

    IMHO

I wish fans could sometimes look at their show realistically and not just as fans. CT is a very low rated show that is still at least 27 episodes from syndication numbers, 39 away from a number that would give it a better chance at a synd. deal. But what fees will it generate when so few people want to watch it first run? Why would people all of a sudden start watching because it runs 5 days a week? The likely scenario is whoever picks it up, assuming it is picked up, stops running it when they see they’d get better numbers rerunning Gilligan for the billionth time.

    YMMV

Even thought they will have to make the deal favorable ala Fringe/Til Death and take a hit they are maybe trying a tactic so the hit is a smaller one.

Ah, yes, “Til Death,” that show that Sony kept on life support for 2 years just for the privilege of taking it to NATPE twice, giving it away in an all-barter arrangement, and then watching the one station in NYC who bought it dump it in favor of an infomercial.

Clearly, that should be the goal of all studios.
