Saturday Night Live hosted by Eli Manning with musical guest Rihanna averaged a  preliminary 3.1 rating in adults 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with Local People Meters. That's up four tenths versus the last original SNL on  April 15 when Josh Brolin hosted with musical guest Gotye.

Just an hypothetical, but I wonder what would happen if NBC ever tried moving SNL into a weekday slot, say, Wednesday 9-10:30. Might be worth thinking about at least slotting in a few repeats somewhere, since it’s NBC’s highest-rated scripted show by a country mile at this point.

  • Kaylie

If NBC moved SNL to a weekday, it defeats the purpose of it being called Saturday Night Live.

  • alanna

Rihanna ! is the main reason!

    @Kaylie
Facepalm at my obliviousness. Good point, hahaa.

I love the Manning’s. Payton is really funny on SNL. Was hoping for a good night for Eli. He did a great job for not being an actor. I really don’t think SNL is that funny but I actually laughed out loud a few times last night. Loved the skit where he helped little brothers. I hope they have him on again.

Rihanna is vulgar and has no actual talent

OMW. I think I’m in love with Eli Manning now! So silly. And sexy ;P

  • Fischer

Eli was pretty bad. Couldn’t keep his off the cue cards

  • rob60990

I’m surprised it didn’t do even better. Still, this beat everything NBC primetime except The Voice.

Better Question: Has NBC ever concidered using SNL to launch a new night of Progarming on Saturday?

    8:00 SNL
    9:30 30 Rock
    10:00 Dateline

Theres NO chance of this happening, but its still a nice dream

  • HotLatino4GayMarriage

He’s so goofy but he’s kinda cute and likable unlike Tebow ugh!

To be honest, I didn’t think this was going to be a good episode – until the whole Amazon Mother’s Day 50 Shades of Grey bit. That alone made up for any mediocrity in the episode, up to and including Rihanna. It’s so weird that she sounds good in her duet with Coldplay on Princess of China, but by herself she is an awful performer.

Not to mention the surprise cameo by Sacha Baron Cohen as The Dictator. Not, of course, that that would help the movie at the box office – based on the latest numbers, looks like The Avengers is gonna dominate for a few weeks.

And that’s just the American totals – worldwide it’s already broken $600 million dollars! Man, the 2012 summer movie season really got off to an awesome start. Could it be that Avatar might lose its top spot?

  • CP

Eli was okay. Wouldn’t mind seeing him again.

  • David Howell

Sooner or later SNL is going to be the #1 show of the week on NBC. (Has it happened already?)

  • Nick

I checked, and this episode beats the season averages of all NBC shows except the Voice.

NBC tried both Weekend Update Thursday and SNL repeats during primetime on Saturday. Neither lasted very long.

I only watched because of Rihanna. I was interested in seeing her perform her new song. The Amazon skit was the funniest but Eli was not a part of that. I did enjoy Little Brothers skit. But beside that it was pretty bad.

  • Networkman

Kristen Wiig was great as the “tanning lady” on Weekend News. SNL needs her for one more season. I still can’t believe SNL got rid of Casey Wilson. I think she had great potential.

  • Fischer

@Networkman. They didn’t get rid of her… She left for “Happy Endings” she’s a series regular.
