Definitions:

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast National Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

The voice repeated terribly. Glad 48 Hours was up. Anyone Know when does 48 Hours end this season?

  • Nick

Dang, UFC did horrible, especially when the last two got over 6 million viewers. Wonder what happened?

  • SarahL

Amazing that so many are watching 48 hours on CBS on a Saturday night.

  • cc

Is Fox winning the night with a 1.0 enough to finally wake up the networks that what they’re doing ain’t working if they actually want viewers? Or will it be fluffed off as Saturday date night, and no one is home?

  • rob60990

    SNL averaged a 3.1.

  • senor chang

Yikes for the Voice repeat. I know NBC is trying to wring out every marginal ratings increase they can for sweeps, but they honestly might have been better off going with Firm-SVU from 9-10.

    48 Hours did quite well.

What happened to Comedy Time / Crime Time Saturday?

I presume NBA playoffs (and local MLB telecasts?) hurt Fox’s UFC numbers?

  • MattM

The UFc card didn’t have any big name stars, plus the Mayweather fight, plus UFC interest being on the decline. This rating is not very shocking to me. It was a good show however.

  • Tested

NBA and MLB hurt.. I also think The Avengers hurt a little bit..

I missed the POI episode the first time around but saw it last night the 2nd time around, so I am happy

    I was right

All television shows will drop this weekend. It is a Super Weekend: The Avengers super heroes and the Super moon. Nothing will stand before the Super weekend. All Television Shows will fall.

The Avengers will compete near all box office records.

Super Moon this weekend. The largest and brightest full moon of the year and the moon will be at its closest distance to the earth. The internet is alive with all the effects of the moon from high tides, to the emotional effects on people. They are even predicting a baby boom in 9 months due to the Super Moon.

So when you take the combination of the Spring Weather, the Super Moon and the movie hit “The Avengers” the super heroes, Cinco De Mayo ,Meteor Showers . Nothing will stand before the Super weekend. All Television Shows will fall.

  • colt13

Nick, I’m guessing Mayweather/Cotto, even at 60 bucks.

  • Maxine

Another great episode of POI.. best show on earth!

Box Office: ‘Avengers’ has top U.S. debut ever with $200.3 million

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2012/05/avengers-box-office-record-weekend.html

“After breaking box-office records overseas, “The Avengers” has conquered America.

The superhero action flick featuring Marvel superheroes such as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America had the biggest opening weekend of all time in the U.S. and Canada this weekend — not adjusted for inflation — grossing a powerful $200.3 million, according to an estimate from distributor Walt Disney Studios.

Heading into the weekend, pre-release audience surveys indicated the 3-D film would have a massive domestic opening of at least $150 million, giving it one of the top five highest U.S. debuts ever. Instead, the movie soared beyond expectations, easily surpassing the $168.2 million 2011 debut of previous record-holder “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2.” The picture also raked in more money in its first three days than strong performers such as “The Dark Knight,” “The Hunger Games” and “Spider-Man 3,” all of which collected over $150 million upon their debuts.

The movie appealed to a wide swath of moviegoers; half the audience was under the age of 25, and 60% of the crowd was male. About 52% of those who saw the movie opted to shell out a few extra bucks to watch it in 3-D.

The film also had a phenomenal weekend overseas, where it opened in many foreign countries roughly a week ago. Playing in 52 international markets, the movie collected $151.5 million this weekend, raising its total abroad to $441.5 million. That means that after just two weeks in release, “The Avengers” has already sold $641.8 million worth of tickets at the global box office.

I,m getting really tired of people going on about how wonderful the show Person of Interest is, because it not. I remember a few years back when The Mentalist got an award for the best watched show of the season. And I still think it still is a good show. But the ratings started to go down. And in time the same thing will happen to Person of Interest.

  • Christy

I thought 48 Hours Mystery was a good show last night.

  • @randy

Thank you for your comment on person of interest – so many blather on and on about how wonderful it is, but I can barely stand the commercials for it. I gave it a couple of chances, but gave up halfway through the second episode when I realized I did not care about one character, they were all so cliched, and the plots were not original. The acting is questionable as well, Jim Caveizel is very one note and I never liked the other guy, can’t even remember his name.
