30 Rock is close to being renewed for an abbreviated final season of around 13 episodes according to a report from Deadline.com.

The same report gives Community a 50-50 shot at renewal and Parks & Recreation better than a 50-50 shot. In a special sneak peek of tomorrow's (May 8 ) Renew/Cancel Index "Oddsmakers" edition, we've got Community's chances at 85%-90% renewal and both Bill and I have Parks & Recreation at a 100% lock for renewal.

shocked at the abreviated 30 rock season. I was expecting it to be the last, but not a short one. more than a little bit shocked of the not certain community renewal.

30 Rock has run its course. I’m glad its not getting a full 22 episode season. The only reasons it’s not getting canceled are:

    1. More episodes for syndication = more money.
    2. NBC doesn’t want to upset Tina Fey, since they’ll probably want to keep her in some sort of role tied to NBC once the show is over.

Ratings totally sucked this season but they deserve to have a proper final season

  • Dan

It looks like The Office and 30 Rock will both be ending next season and if Community gets renewed with just enough episodes for syndication next season will be the last for that show as well. Leaving Parks as the only comedy series looking to last past next season. Whitney does not look likely to return while Up All Night looks likely to return.

    Pathetic.

  • tvfreak

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! 30 Rock must not die so ignominiously with only a half-season ending!

  • Concerned Citizen

What I expected, and the right route to take IMO.

  • Bunny

According to Deadline Community and Parks & Recreation are also going to have 13 eps?

  • Rebecca

    @tvfreak
Just enjoy the old episodes…did you catch up on most of them? I know you started 30R late. I’m okay with a final season. I still love the show, but these days I love P&R more, followed by Community.

  • Bob

30 Rock, Community and Parks and Recreation all deserve to be cancelled….not one over 5 million viewers and extremely low demo. If they renew these awful shows, it is a gift and shows NBC is worse then ever. Hopefully Harry’s Law gets renewed…..lol.

@Bunny: Deadline did add a note that it’s hearing short orders for those shows too, but that could mean anything less than 22. I know Community only needs 17 episodes to get to 88 episodes and Parks & Rec needs 20.

  • SJ

I’m still pushing for 15, to bring it to an even 140 episodes over 7 seasons – 20 episodes/season. But I’ll take what I can get.

    @DSC

I’m not shocked one bit. Alec has been giving hints about the final season being a shorter one for a while now.

  • rob60990

Community needs 17 episodes to get to 88 episodes and Parks needs 20 so those should be the episode orders. Renewing them for 13 is ridiculous.

  • SJ

Meanwhile, I am utterly shocked and more than a little pissed that Parks is looking at a shortened order!

  • Bunny

If The Office wasn’t a surprised mediocre hit for NBC ..than all these niche single-cam shows would have been cancelled by now..

  • Dan

Even if shows like Parks and Community get short orders, the episode amount could be extended. The reason for short orders is to accomodate new comedies. Both will make it to syndication.

  • Ryan

They did say that “bubble shows” are receiving short orders… surely that can’t mean Parks?

Also they updated to just say that Community was “in the running”.

  • James

Seeing that I have never once seem this Show, I don’t really care, but I guess it sucks for the fans…. Or not I guess cause I’ve heard from fans that it’s dropped the ball quality wise recently. Dk, just what vie heard, Ive never seen a single episode

  • Dan

The Office and Parks and Recreation will probably get 22 episode orders.

Community may get 18 to 20 but I’d be surprised if it was less, then we’d have a Cougar Town situation.

30 Rock will probably get 13-15 for midseason and if renewed Up All Night will probably get 13.

The rest of NBC’s comedies are either cancelled or going to be.

  • Potato

Yeah, I’ve been thinking this would happen for a while. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin both seem to at the same time love the show and not want to do it any more. This is a good solution. As to Community, I’d be surprised if it came back with any more or any less than 17, seeing as that’s what it needs to get to syndication and 17 is usually the number of episodes a show gets when it has its finale feb/march and they could then premiere a new show after. Parks and rec? I’m surprised they’re looking at a short season– with 30 Rock, probably Community and probably The Office ending next year do they really want to put all their eggs in the new shows basket?
