This is the final week of Renew / Cancel Index posts for the season, since the Fall 2012 broadcast TV schedules will be announced during the network upfront meetings next week, so as is our custom, Robert and I play Oddsmakers (hat tip, PTI) with our final renewal chance guesses of the season.

5/10 Update: A Gifted Man has been canceled.

5/13 Update: Unforgettable, NYC 22, Rob and CSI:Miami have been canceled, CSI:NY has been renewed. Two and a Half Men has been renewed.

Our final guesses of RENEWAL chances:

Program Bill Robert
A Gifted Man 0% 0%
NYC 22 0% 0%
Unforgettable 0% 0%
Rob 25% 30%
CSI:NY 35% 45%
CSI: Miami 65% 55%
Rules of Engagement 65% 60%
Two and a Half Men 95% 99%

No real differences between Robert's and my final predictions for CBS shows. I'll admit that while I am certain at least one of the CSI offspring will be canceled, The Choice of CSI:NY was just a bit above a stab in the dark since it's likely driven by syndication economics that are substantially hidden from us.

To address the picky commenters out there who'll otherwise whine "You just give percentages, you never make an up or down call!", please take all of my guesses above 50% as "will be renewed" and those below 50% as "will be canceled" and you may interpret the "distance" from 50% as my level of confidence in the prediction.

For those who'd like to review the last Renew / Cancel Index numbers I'll produce for the season, enjoy:

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

@Rebecca: Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you’re the only one voting TBBT up and Nick and I keep doing the opposite, eventually PoI will win.

Also, if you’re out of NCIS quotes, use the LA version – it has more funny material than the original.

From CSI episode 12.22 “Homecoming” (an epic season finale!) –
McKeen (who is in prison for killing off Warrick): Russell, right? You’re the CSI Ecklie brought in to right the ship. How’s that working out for you?
DB Russell: Great, how’s prison working out for you?

  • Linda Thomas

I see all of the comments about canceling CSI New York, which is still a very good show, but am I the only person who is sick to death of the tired story of Red John? Please I think if I have to hear about him for another year, I will read a book. There are several more tired shows than CSI and Unforgettable. Please give them another chance. You can for sure get rid of Undercover Boss. It is the exact same thing every week. My daddy used to say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”

    Linda

  • tvfreak

@Linda Thomas: I recommend starting with the books of Preston and Child, or even Richard Castle. ;)

But seriously, without Red John how will The Mentalist stay serialized? It’s one of the reasons why I watch the show – other than Patrick being such a hilariously cool rule-bender.

  • Jake Gallup

I love CSI miami i watch it evrey day on AMC its great same with unforgettable i think cbs shouled just movt thoose shows to sauterday at least giive the CSI Miami a final seson it is the least cbs can do for csi miami for all it did for cbs also evreybody loves unforgettable so just move the great shows to sauterday

  • Kathy

No more CSI: NY and CSI: Miami, please. Aren’t you getting tired of CSI series? There are too many CSI shows and run too many years. Time to give the audience something different.

Great episode tonight…POI is my new favorite show.

  • Bringard

Today CBS will announce the 11th season of CSI Miami (21 episodes) and the cancellation of CSI New York.

Their fate is sealed since Jerry Bruckheimer met with the 2 guys from CBS on his ranch (5 days ago).

  • Joe

Going out on a limb here. Both CSI Miami and NY get the boot.

  • Rebecca

    @tvfreak
I just meant it would take a while, and if more people voted then PoI would win faster. I’ll still keep voting TBBT up whenever it’s my turn, until it’s out of the game. ;-)

  • Nadia

I can’t believe they cancelled Gifted man. Idiots!

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“Going out on a limb here. Both CSI Miami and NY get the boot.”

Not that much out on a limb. I’ve noted the certainty that one goes, and the potential for both to go for quite some time.

If CBS expands their sitcom time as expected, that’s one of the possible causes for it.

  • JM

I’ll take all of the CSI shows over the filth of Two & 1/2 men, Mike and Molly, and Two Broke Girls. Person of Interest and Mentalist are two more of our favorites besides the all the CSI’s, especially NCIS.

    quote from RoE [6.14]:
(about Adam’s temporary tattoo around upper arm)
    Jen: Why barbed wire?
    Adam: Because. It’s forbidden.
Jen: It’s not forbidden. You can buy it at the hardware store.
Adam: Yeah, but they keep it behind the counter and you have to ask the guy.

  • Jim Apostolakes

Move Unforgettable to Fri. night before Blue Bloods. Unforgettable gets better ratings than Blue Bloods . Why cancel it -would do great on Fri. night? Cast is really good–especially Poppy and Dylan.

  • tvfreak

    @Jim Apostolakes: Exactly!

From TBBT episode 5.24 “The Countdown Reflection” –
Sheldon: Howard, Bernadette – (starts giving wedding blessings in Klingon)
Bernadette (very angry): SHELDON! I told you, no Klingon!
Sheldon: Fine, I’ll do it in English. But it loses something.

  • Verna McCarty

CSI NY and CSI Miami should not be cancelled. Both of them should be renewed without a doubt. Friday night lineup with CSI NY is awesome. I look forward to it every week. Biggest mistake made was moving CSI Miami to Sunday nights but it held its own.

I like dramas and I am not a reality show fan nor a comedy show fan. Keep people like me looking at TV by keeping on the dramas.

    8:00PM Amazing Race

    10:00PM The Good Wife

They would never f$%^ up Monday night…so that would stay the same. Tuesday, they’d never separate NCIS and NCIS:LA so those would def be back to back. Wednesday won’t change unless they move Criminal Minds to Tuesday. Thursday is the same as Monday…they would never change that. Friday would definitely be what I predicted to compete with a possible ABC TGIF. Saturday doesn’t really matter. Sunday will probably see Undercover Boss at 9 and Good Wife at 10..
